Location:

Head Office, Barkingside – We are in zone 4 of the central line, and are 26 minutes from Liverpool Street by tube. One or two days per week may be worked from our hot desk office in Borough, SE1. (or from home)

Introduction Barnardo’s runs over 800 UK projects that transform the lives of more than 190,000 children and young people every year. We believe we can bring out the best in every child regardless of the issues they face, our work supports children living in poverty, children that have been sexual exploited, children living with a disability, children living with domestic violence and young carers who look after an ill parent or relative. The Fundraising & Supporter Marketing Team is responsible for raising circa £14 million from individuals, using a range of direct marketing techniques including, direct mail, telemarketing, digital & face to face. This is an exciting time of growth and development for Supporter Marketing and we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic person to join our successful team at this time.

Job Description Job Purpose To project manage a range of direct marketing campaigns to acquire new supporters and to act as mentor to Direct Marketing Executives. Key Responsibilities Strategic responsibility •

To support Manager in the on-going development of the supporter acquisition strategy by providing comprehensive evaluation of campaigns, drawing conclusions and making recommendations for future activity.

Budgets and planning •

To support Manager with the development of annual direct marketing plans and their implementation

To work with Manager to monitor budgets on a monthly basis and forecast income and expenditure, including reporting on monthly budget variances

Campaign Delivery •

To project manage a range of ‘high risk’ direct marketing campaigns, which have substantial income & expenditure budgets, including door to door, face to face direct mail door drops, inserts, telemarketing and digital and ensure that all projects are delivered on time and to budget.

Ensure that the values of the Barnardo’s brand are fully understood by external suppliers and appropriately reflected in all supporter acquisition communications.

Liaise with other staff to obtain relevant stories/case histories and photographs for use in direct marketing appeals.

To proof read all campaign materials and ensure amends have been done

To manage the selection and delivery of data, from data briefing, personalisation and targeting.

Produce end of campaign reports/results analysis for all campaign activity

Managing relationships •

Brief and liaise with external agencies/suppliers (e.g. creative services agency, freelance copywriters, telemarketing agency, door to door agency, face to face agency, printers, list brokers, response handling agency) in the delivery of specific projects.

To liaise with various departments across the organisation to obtain relevant information and approvals required for campaign delivery.

To brief and liaise with Data and Response Handling Teams regarding each project

Management •

To mentor Direct Marketing Execs, supporting them during their probation and induction period; assessing their on-going training needs, providing & implementing training recommendations.

To increase Direct Marketing Exec’s direct marketing and fundraising knowledge and their understanding of campaign management internal/external processes.

To monitor Direct Marketing Exec’s management of campaigns, providing them with the support and knowledge they need to ensure campaigns are delivered to time and budget.

Deputise, as appropriate, for Manager

Administration •

Ensure effective processes, recording & filing systems are followed to ensure projects are delivered effectively and efficiently

To assist ‘response handling team’ in responding to donor enquiries/complaints

General •

To carry out any other duties as appropriate, directed by Manager

Contribute to team meetings and organisational priorities.

Person Specification All criteria are essential unless otherwise stated. Experience 

Experience project managing direct marketing campaigns across a wide range of media including telemarketing, direct mail, digital marketing.

Understanding of and an ability to manage and monitor budgets

Experience of selecting data and the principals of data segmentation for use in direct marketing campaigns

Experience of evaluating the effectiveness of direct marketing campaigns

Experience of briefing and liaising with external suppliers

Education 

Educated to a degree level or equivalent professional qualification.

Knowledge & Skills 

Ability to schedule and prioritise workloads effectively

Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Ability to assess creative work, write/edit copy and feedback edits in a constructive manner

Ability to work under your own initiative with minimal supervision

Excellent written and spoken English

Ability to proof read copy and artwork

Excellent analytical and numeracy skills

Proficient in use of Windows-based software packages, including Word, Excel, email and internet
