Introduction London Transport Museum is an education and heritage preservation charity, and a subsidiary company of Transport for London (TfL). The cost of delivering an outstanding visitor attraction and funding our important work with London schools and communities is £12.6m each year. Outside of a TfL grant of £5.8m, the Museum must earn its income. Development activity is an important part of this, currently raising around £2.5m each year. Underpinning this are valued and long-lasting partnerships with individuals, business and a range of outside bodies. The post holder will work within the Marketing and Development department to manage and develop London Transport Museum’s Corporate Membership scheme, growing income from the scheme and spotting new opportunities for its continued development over the next five years. The post holder will contribute to the development and implementation of pan-Museum marketing and development strategy.

Job Description Key Accountabilities: Strategic approach: The post holder will develop and deliver a development strategy for the Corporate Membership Scheme to improve its profitability and drive income. This will include; actively selling the scheme to new Members to extend its reach and scope. Researching companies who have reason to support the Museum, cultivating relationships, writing Membership proposals, agreeing Member involvement in Museum content or programme. Managing the design and production of a range of communication materials required to deliver the strategy and co-ordinating the targeted distribution of these materials to promote the Corporate Membership Scheme, Member events and activities. Delivering events: The post holder will develop and manage a programme of Member and cultivation events to promote Member relationships and deliver business benefit to Members. This includes the strategic management and delivery of the Museum’s Thought Leadership programme. Relationship management: The post holder will take a proactive and strategic approach to managing relationships with all stakeholders, particularly Members, creating a community that will serve the Museum in the long term. This will involve: representing the Museum at industry forums as a means of undertaking research and meeting new business leads and partners, getting to know Members, understanding their reasons for supporting the Museum. Proactively keeping in touch by arranging and attending meetings and events, being responsible for briefing colleagues on relationships and commitments and making suggestions on how the Museum might better meet the interests of its Members.

Fulfilling contractual obligations: The post holder will agree relationship objectives with each Member from the start of the contractual relationship and formally evaluate the relationship at key agreed milestones. This will involve meetings, reports, agreeing future actions and preparing and negotiating a legally binding contract for each new Member relationship, ensuring each contract is agreed and signed in a timely fashion. Working proactively the post holder will ensure Members receive and make full use of their contractual benefits and association with the Museum. The post holder will maximise the benefits of the relationship for both parties, for example, by proposing and managing joint initiatives, managing sponsor expectations. Collaboration across the Museum: The post holder will manage and motivate other team members, volunteers and advocates to achieve objectives. Being responsible for briefing managers and operational teams when organising internal and external events. Liaising with staff throughout the Museum and TfL to ensure that colleagues are aware of Marketing & Development departmental priorities and that all contact between the Museum and its Members/sponsors and stakeholders is appropriate, onmessage, coordinated, and monitored. The post holder will also contribute creatively and practically to the planning and implementation of the work of the Marketing and Development department. Information management: The post holder will adopt a thorough approach to process and records management and will be required to: prepare regular reports on fundraising progress against strategy. Keep senior colleagues and the Museum Board informed. Ensure the Museum’s website is regularly updated with stakeholder information, maintaining accreditation on appropriate devices across the Museum. Maintain comprehensive files and proactively develop and maintain the Museum database of existing and potential sponsors, Members, donors and stakeholders. Process client contracts and invoices in a timely fashion.

Reputation: The post holder will promote the Museum’s reputation as an excellent organisation to be associated with and support, building mutually beneficial relationships which serve the Museum in the long-term. Key Interfaces: Development Manager – post holder’s line manager. Post holder to provide specialist strategic advice to the Corporate Membership Development Manager to ensure the successful delivery of the Corporate Membership strategy. Marketing and Development Department – post holder will work with the Marketing and Development department to deliver the Corporate Membership strategy. Managing Director, Senior Management Team and Museum Board – post holder will support the Managing Director, Senior Management Team and Museum Board by providing appropriate information on Members, donors and stakeholders and other appropriate Development team activities. Museum Corporate Members and Sponsors – post holder will work with the Marketing and Development department to build positive relationships with Members and Sponsors to ensure on-going support, leveraging additional funding from existing stakeholders and identifying new opportunities for support. Sponsors, funders, trusts and foundations – post holder will work with the Marketing and Development department to help develop relationships with a range of sponsors, funders, trusts and foundations. Transport for London: including senior management, procurement, project management, commercial development, corporate finance, marketing, public affairs, stakeholder relations and internal communications – post holder will work with colleagues at Transport for London to align organisational objectives and add value to Museum programmes. 8


Client departments – post holder will be responsible for managing relationships and interfaces with other Museum departments (e.g. Collections and Engagement, Design, Presentation and Environment, and Visitor services). Local authority and government officials, representatives of public bodies and industry groups, Museum Friends, Designers and printers on exhibition design and printed communication, Hospitality clients, caterers and suppliers - the post holder will be encouraged to build and develop relationships with these groups to support Development objectives.

Person Specification Knowledge: Computer literate with a good working knowledge of MS Office products (Essential) Working knowledge of fundraising strategy and practice (Essential) Knowledge of fundraising law Knowledge of the Development opportunities available in the transport, museums and heritage sectors and an understanding of where London Transport Museum can find its niche within a competitive market (Essential) Knowledge of the transport sector and the issues affecting it (Essential) Good database management skills and working knowledge of at least one relevant database package Understanding of budgetary control and management An understanding of the design, print and production process Skills: Excellent communication skills. Must present themselves well in a range of situations, including formal presentations, one-to-one meetings, written proposals, promotional copywriting (Essential) A driven approach to meeting targets, while diplomatic and sensitive to the balance between a range of organisational objectives and priorities (Essential) Ability to build personal and organisational relationships at all levels (essential)
