Focused on facilitating a planned capital campaign, you will shape the strategic development and operational management of fundraising activities while personally taking charge of a portfolio of donor prospects. The future of the University and its institutional priorities will be in your hands as you manage the Annual Fund team and Prospect Research Officer, with growth planned within the team, subject to your results.

The Person A target-driven professional with exceptional leadership skills, you will have a proven track record of fundraising and managing high value strategic partnerships, ideally within the higher education sector. This will include securing major gifts. Expert knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or a similar CRM system will be essential. A degree or equivalent would be desirable. Skilled at building partnerships with a wide range of friends, alumni and donors at the highest levels, you will have the ability to inspire trust and confidence with internal and external colleagues and partners. Your strong leadership skills will make you stand out.

The Department The Development, Alumni Relations & Events department is an outward-facing team responsible for managing relationships with alumni, supporters and other stakeholders. We enable them to gain lifelong benefit from their contact with the University and to make a contribution to the life of the current students and the Kingston community.

The team delivers an annual portfolio of

corporate, fundraising and alumni events, including graduation ceremonies, an active programme for alumni communications and engagement and is now extending its capacity to raise external financial support for University priorities.

Job Description Job Purpose Strategic development and operational management of the fundraising activities in the Development, Alumni Relations and Events (DARE) office. Management of a portfolio of major gift prospects, which may be both alumni and non-alumni, and to secure major gifts for Kingston University in support of institutional priorities. Development and implementation of fundraising strategy for the planned capital campaign

Roles & Responsibilities •

Work with the Head of DARE, to develop the overall strategy and targets for maximising philanthropic giving to Kingston University and to manage implementation and co-ordination of fundraising activity.

Work with the Head of DARE, to establish personal financial and activity targets and deliver an agreed activity plan. Work with the Head of DARE, Prospect Research Officer, Senior Management Team (SMT), academic staff and volunteer leaders, taking responsibility for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of leadership and major gift prospects.

Manage a portfolio of individual prospects capable of making up to six-figure gifts to Kingston University, creating bespoke solicitation plans that utilise academic staff, senior DARE office and Kingston University executive leaders effectively. Actively soliciting gifts personally, as well as planning solicitations for SMT as appropriate.

Work with the Head of DARE, taking on-going responsibility for the identification, cultivation, recruitment and support of key volunteers who are to serve as Campaign leaders.

Communicate effectively to internal and external constituencies on the progress, success and results of the leadership and major gifts activities. Build strong interpersonal relationships with academics in order to gather information on priority projects as well as expand Kingston University’s network of potential supporters. Work with senior colleagues to develop the case for support and collateral materials to support priority fundraising projects and maintain the list of projects in need of funding. Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of the funding interests of key individual prospects.

Work with the Donor Relations Officer to ensure timely, effective and appropriate donor stewardship of major gift donors and ensuring that gift pledges are fulfilled on schedule, to keep donors involved and committed to the University.

Work with the Prospect Research Officer to ensure full and timely records of all activity are kept on the database in adherence to set policies and procedures.

Plan activity schedule, including travel, efficiently and conscious of minimising fundraising costs. Have overall management responsibility for the activities of the Annual Fund team (of two) and Prospect Research Officer, agreeing the objectives in the annual plans, setting individual and team targets, monitoring performance etc.

To communicate to prospective legacy donors the potential for considering a bequest or other form of planned gift. To communicate accurate and up-to-date information on tax efficient giving to all assignments. Assist in the arrangement for visits to the University by prospects. Liaise with the Events team in the organization of events as and when needed, and/or focused on prospects. At all times to work with Head of DARE, volunteer leaders and colleagues, staff and University officials so as to foster and nurture a strong, donor-centric, effective and very productive “concept of team” so that the Campaign goal is achieved in full, on time and within budget.
