Overview Working closely with the Director of Development at Oriel College the successful candidate will act as a relationship manager for potential donors of up to £100,000. Key responsibilities will include:•
Planning and implementing strategies to increase major gifts of up to £100k.
•
Identifying, contacting and building relationships with potential donors.
•
Developing and implementing fundraising proposals relating to approved projects.
•
Building and developing relationships within the academic community at Oriel to assist with successful fundraising initiatives.
•
Planning, organising and attending cultivation and stewardship events.
•
Contributing to the planning, progression and promotion of the Oriel capital campaign.
To succeed in this demanding role the successful candidate should: •
be educated to degree level or equivalent
•
have a proven track record in target driven development or face to face fundraising
•
have experience of working either within the public sector or a charitable organisation
•
be able to use their own initiative but to also work as part of a team
•
be able to liaise effectively at all levels
In addition successful candidates should be able to plan and implement at a strategic level, plan and deliver projects within budget and on time, be a confident presenter and possess excellent written skills. Previous experience or an interest in working within the Higher Education sector is advantageous. Purpose Working closely with the Director of Development: •
To raise gifts of c£10,000 - £100,000 from alumni of Oriel College and others, against agreed targets
•
To act as the relationship manager for an identified group of potential major donors
Facts and Figures •
Manage a group of circa 150 potential major donors
•
Have around 10 external meetings per month
•
Ask for £200,000 per quarter
•
Raise c£500,000 per year
•
Targets to become fully effective after nine months employment

Responsibilites •
To plan and implement strategies to increase major gifts from wealthy individuals at the £10,000-£100,000 level
•
To identify such individuals, manage personal contacts with them and, where appropriate, ask for gifts
•
To take ownership of the Raleigh Society as a tool for major gift fundraising
•
To develop, commission and edit fundraising proposals relating to approved projects
•
To write fundraising proposals to trusts, foundations, individuals and senior volunteers
•
To liaise with senior members of the Oriel academic community to facilitate their becoming active and successful fundraisers
•
To be responsible for ensuring that all relevant information gathered in the cultivation and stewardship process is provided to the Director of Development
•
To plan, organise and attend cultivation and stewardship events
•
To contribute to planning, progress and promotion of the capital campaign
•
To undertake other duties as directed by the Director of Development
•
To develop a fundraising strategy, where necessary, around subject areas and specific year groups
•
To lead specific fundraising projects where appropriate

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Essential •
Degree or equivalent qualification
•
Computer literate i.e. Word, Outlook
•
Proven record in target driven development and/or face to face fundraising
•
Experience of working in the public sector or charitable organisations
Desirable •
Previous work in Higher Education
•
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Excel, or other fundraising database
•
Working knowledge of Oxford University, or similar institution
Skills and abilities •
Ability to plan strategically and implement those plans
•
Ability to plan and deliver projects within budget and on time
•
Ability to present a case convincingly in person
•
Excellent writing skills
•
Ability to liaise effectively with senior colleagues and alumni
Attitudes •
An interest in the Higher Education sector in the UK

Energetic and enthusiastic
•
Ability to work as part of a team but also to use initiative
•
Willingness to work hard and attend, where necessary, commitments outside normal office hours
•

Decisions Must be able to effectively research potential donors and make decisions on the most appropriate contact method and level of possible donation. The jobholder will be given freedom to decide on the most appropriate way to interact and build relationships with potential donors.
