Candidate Information Pack { Head of FutureFund }
Letter from the Director of Development Dear Candidate Thank you for your interest in the role of Head of FutureFund. This is an exciting time to join the V&A. 2013 was an outstanding year for the Museum with a record 3.3 million visitors coming to our South Kensington site alone and enormous critical acclaim for exhibitions ranging from the sell-out ‘David Bowie is’, to ‘Masterpieces of Chinese Paintings’. The scope of the V&A's work is impressive and Development is critical in enabling the Museum to realise its ambitions. In the last 13 years we have raised over £166 million for the V&A's extensive programme of capital redevelopment, FuturePlan. FuturePlan is transforming the V&A by revitalising visitor facilities, redisplaying our extraordinary collections and restoring modern design and innovation to the heart of the Museum. In parallel, Development are successfully ensuring that revenue fundraising meets challenging targets to compensate for the fall in Grant In Aid. We are excited about the possibility of raising a £100 million endowment, FutureFund, to secure the Museum's collections and curatorial expertise for the long term. The impetus has come in the form of the Catalyst Endowment scheme which has challenged us to raise £15 million by 2016 in order to unlock £5 million in matched funding. This campaign has started with a £1 million gift towards a curatorial post and multiple discussions are in the pipeline. The V&A is a dynamic and inspiring place to work and the Head of FutureFund will play a significant and meaningful role in securing its reputation and reach for years to come. Best wishes Director of Development

The V&A is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and is a charity exempt from registration under the Charities Act of 2011. FuturePlan : Transforming the V&A Over the last 13 years the V&A has completed over 50 building projects and transformed around 40,000 square metres of the Museum. It has worked with some of the UK’s most innovative architects and designers to create beautiful and contemporary new settings for the V&A’s outstanding collections while renewing and restoring much of the building’s original architecture and improving the visitors’ experience. To realise this, the V&A has worked with over 50 architectural, design and engineering practices and raised over £166 million from private donors and funding bodies including substantial grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Work is still very much on-going and this year the V&A will complete a suite of seven galleries telling the story of European art and design from 1600 to 1800. The £12.5 million project offers the V&A the opportunity to re-examine its superb Baroque and Rococo collections and present them with new interpretation in contemporary light-filled galleries. The main construction work for the V&A’s Exhibition Road Building Project is already underway. The project will provide a large, underground exhibition gallery which will transform the way the Museum presents its internationally renowned exhibitions. An open courtyard and improved entrance into the Museum will be created at street level. It is expected that construction will be complete by the end of 2016 to open to the public in 2017. Over £36 million has already been raised towards the £49.5 million target.

FutureFund : Securing the Future of the V&A To safeguard the V&A’s future and ensure our 3.3 million annual visitors continue to enjoy the Museum’s collections and programmes, we are building an endowment: FutureFund. FutureFund will generate substantial and reliable investment income to secure the Museum’s long-term future and: •
safeguard the V&A’s outstanding collections.
•
preserve and strengthen the V&A’s world-class conservation, research and curatorial activities.
•
maintain the historically important Grade 1 and 2* listed buildings.
•
continue our mission to encourage and inspire creativity, making art and design accessible to all.
•
provide greater financial independence and security.
Our ambition is to raise £100 million over the next fifteen to twenty years. To jump start our campaign we need to raise £15 million by 2016 in order to unlock a £5 million challenge grant from The Catalyst: Endowment Fund, a scheme jointly funded by the Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS), Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). Given the importance of fashion and textiles at the Museum, our ambition is to raise a significant percentage of the overall target via a specific fund for fashion: Fashion FutureFund. With strategic guidance from the Director of Development and the Deputy Director of Development, the Head of FutureFund will drive and implement the FutureFund campaign in order to maximise income and achieve targets. The Head of FutureFund will line manage the Development Manager responsible for Fashion FutureFund.
