Candidate Information Pack Director of Fundraising and Marketing, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Letter from the Chief Executive
Dear Candidate, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a magical place. We change the lives of deaf children and adults - but we have enormous fun doing it! I love it here because it gives me the chance to use my heart as well as my head - and what can be more fulfilling than that? After 22 years working in corporate life, I wanted a role where I could visibly use both. There are lots of people in business who have big hearts, but sometimes the opportunity to show kindness or generosity can be tricky. At Hearing Dogs we want everyone who works for us to be professional, generous and kind. It's at the core of what we do. Hearing Dogs trains clever, loveable dogs and matches them carefully with deaf children and adults. We then support the partnerships we create for ten years or more, visiting recipients of hearing dogs in their homes all over the UK, and ensuring the training of our dogs is up to standard. We provide refresher training if required. But we also give enormous support to combat the isolation and depression hearing loss can bring. We assist deaf people to find other sources of support, too, and help them navigate the sometimes confusing network of disability resources across the UK.

Letter from the Chief Executive continued
Recruiting a Director of Fundraising and Marketing is a big step for Hearing Dogs. There is a natural cohesion already between the fundraising and marketing teams, and they work well together. What we need is someone who gets the best from the individuals and then takes the charity up a level. We have made some fabulous progress in the last two years and we are in a really good place. We are ready, in the words of a management book, to take this charity from "good" to "great". We are helping 60% more deaf people than we were two years ago, and our income rose by 43% over the same period - and we reduced our costs. But the awareness of this wonderful charity still isn't great. We are really fortunate that many kind people remember Hearing Dogs in their wills. But we need more oomph in our fundraising. We have a great social media presence, but we need to really develop and execute a digital strategy that moves quickly and effectively. There is so much scope! And you'll be based in a glorious location, 30 mins by train from Marylebone, with a great senior team around you. What are you waiting for? If you are energetic, know how to raise funds in the right way, and think you can communicate this wonderful charity's unique work, go on - apply! Best wishes, Michele Jennings Chief Executive
