Welcome Letter from the Chief Executive

Thank you for your interest in joining Impetus-PEF as our Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships I joined Impetus-PEF as Chief Executive in 2016 after a career focusing on two issues: tackling poverty and educational disadvantage; and making government work better. The simple fact is that we’re letting down millions of young people in this country. Too often they aren’t given a proper chance to fulfil their potential in work or in education. The problem is deep-rooted and complex, so it’s going to take more than good intentions to fix it. It’s going to take innovation, risk taking and hard-edged analysis. That’s where Impetus-PEF comes in and why I joined as CEO – helping the most powerful approaches and organisations to get even stronger, to grow and to touch many more lives. Impetus-PEF is at the cutting-edge of tackling one of the biggest social and economic challenges of our time. That’s why I’m honoured to lead the Impetus-PEF team, and looking forward to finding the right person to help us on our journey in this pivotal role.

Building on my networks, and those of our Board and supporters, our Director of Philanthropy and Partnerships will be responsible for raising funds for Impetus-PEF and exploring the potential of all sources of income to create new partnerships and initiatives which will directly fund our charity partners too. The successful candidate will need to inspire and lead our Philanthropy team and nurture and grow many relationships outside of our organisation, building essential connections to deliver significant income for our organisation. This post is vital to our success and plays a central role in our unique charity. We look forward to receiving your application.

Andy Ratcliffe Chief Executive

This is a vital job, with responsibility for developing and implementing a strategy that grows our income across a variety of streams (philanthropic, sponsorship and grant funding) that are crucial to our work and that of the 20+ charities on our portfolio. Impetus-PEF Over two million young people in the UK live with the daily reality of economic deprivation. They are at greater risk of falling behind at school and when they leave school, of not being able to access university or find and keep jobs. Our mission is for every young person, whatever their background, to have an equal chance to succeed in education, in work, and in life. Impetus – The Private Equity Foundation (Impetus-PEF) transforms the lives of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds by ensuring they get the support they need to achieve that success. We find, invest in and build the best charities in the country working with these young people, helping them to have a bigger impact and on more young lives. We do this by providing them with a unique package of funding, management and pro bono support. Impetus-PEF’s current and past partners include the NSPCC, OnSide, Women for Women International, City Gateway, Teens and Toddlers, Venture Trust, Place2Be, IntoUniversity, Camfed International, Resurgo, City Year UK, Fairtrade International and Beanstalk.

Working with organisations in depth and over a number of years enables us to develop a thorough understanding of what really works. Through gathering, analysing and interpreting evidence, we are able to help organisations create valuable and lasting change, and expand significantly so as to dramatically increase the number of young people they serve. This, and our work to influence the policy and resource decisions that impact young people’s lives, enables us to make a real contribution to closing the education and employment gaps between young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and their peers. We are working with over 20 charity partners and through their programmes, currently help over 80,000 young people to achieve in education, prepare for and keep long-term employment and develop essential life skills.
