Exeter College Exeter College sits at the heart of Oxford and is known for its warm, inclusive atmosphere. Founded in 1314, it is one of the oldest colleges at the University. It is located on the corner of Broad Street and Turl Street in a peaceful setting and boasts beautiful, historic features including a Neo-Gothic chapel, library and dining hall. A gift of £800 by Sir John Acland to the College in the early 17th century paid for the dining hall and two student scholarships, and philanthropy has been embedded in the culture of Exeter ever since. Cohen Quad is the most recent result of this philanthropic culture. Its purchase and development was made possible by the College’s alumni and friends, with more than 4,600 making a donation. The College is governed by a Rector and 47 Fellows, and has around 350 undergraduate students and 200 students engaged in post-graduate studies. Professor Sir Richard Trainor became Rector in September 2014 after nine years as Principal and President of King’s College, London.
The Development and Alumni Relations team is the principal point of contact between the College and its 7,000 alumni. Notable alumni include Richard Burton, William Morris, J. R. R. Tolkien, Tariq Ali, Roger Bannister, Reeta Chakrabarti, Alan Bennett, and Philip Pullman. Author J. K. Rowling is an honorary fellow of the College. The College is now in the midst of planning the next phase of Development and Alumni Relations activity which will build on the success of the Exeter Excelling campaign to inspire future engagement and philanthropy from Exeter’s alumni, friends and donors. This is an exciting time to join one of the leading Oxbridge Colleges and is an opportunity for a talented major gifts fundraiser to make a positive impact on the College environment.
