JOB DESCRIPTION MAIN TASKS Strategy
1. Responsible for the overall management of all aspects of prospect research to support and inform The Courtauld’s fundraising strategy against institutional targets. 2. Expand the major gifts prospect pipeline within the UK and internationally. 3. Assist the Philanthropy team in developing strategies to prioritise asks, and maximising opportunities. 4. Make recommendations for who in the organisation is best suited to approach the prospect. 5. Build relationships with colleagues in order to maximise gift opportunities, and networks across the institution.
Fundraising Research
6. Prepare prospect meeting briefings, biographies, and profiles of key prospects and guests for meetings and events. 7. Collect and analyse information using varied available resources such as publications, online tools, and networks. 8. Manage and oversee research tasks assigned to the Development Operations Assistant, who provides approximately 0.2 FTE of support. 9. Ensure research and data processing activity complies with data, privacy and regulatory best practice. 10. Respond to occasional ad hoc research requests.
Due Diligence
11. Manage the day-to-day activity of The Courtauld’s Gift Acceptance Policy, conducting due diligence screenings, recording the outcomes of decisions on Gift Acceptance, and advising on policies and processes. 12. Ensure that gift acceptance policies and procedures comply with best practice.
Information Management and Reporting
13. Ensure the prospect and proposals section of the Raiser’s Edge database are used in a manner that enhances the efficiency and effectiveness of front-line fundraisers. 14. Be responsible for creating and producing regular reports as required, monitoring the prospect and proposal pipelines. 15. Be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and appropriateness of prospect and proposal information recorded on the database (which may include initiating data cleaning and monitoring compliance). 16. Oversight of information management in the Development Office pertaining to prospects and proposals. 17. Provide advice, training and trouble-shooting support to Development team database users on managing prospect and proposal information.
General
18. PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications
1. A good standard of general education to at least degree level or equivalent.
Knowledge and experience
2. Significant knowledge and experience of researching potential donors or sponsors in a major gift fundraising environment. 3. Knowledge and experience of working with relational databases in a fundraising environment, preferably Raiser’s Edge. 4. An excellent knowledge of prospect research tools and techniques. 5. Attentiveness to charitable giving trends in higher education and the arts in the UK and internationally. 6. Demonstrable experience in providing briefings at Board/CEO level.
Skills and Abilities
7. Logical and analytical approach to the development of systems, processes and reports. 8. Demonstrable ability to plan, prioritise and manage several projects, with excellent attention to detail. 9. Curiosity to understand interests and expectations of donors. 10. Ability to effectively motivate colleagues.
