JOB DESCRIPTION PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To engage and involve potential donors and make fundraising approaches in face-to-face meetings, in collaboration with colleagues in DAR and the wider University; 2. To work with DAR colleagues on the identification, research and development of potential donors in order to raise significant philanthropic funding for University approved priorities; 3. To be knowledgeable about the University and its ambitions and goals; 4. To develop clear written solicitation plans and strategies for prospective donors; 5. To conduct face-to-face gift requests with existing and potential donors from an agreed portfolio of prospects, meeting activity and financial targets and focussing on fiveand six-figure gifts; 6. To work with colleagues in the preparation and development of high-quality written proposals and presentations, including delivery, negotiation and successful conclusion; 7. To negotiate and create donation agreements in line with University procedures; 8. To ensure that donors receive stewardship appropriate to their support, sustaining positive relationships with donors in line with the DAR donor stewardship strategy; 9. To ensure all philanthropic income is handled in the most tax efficient manner; 10. To ensure that the University’s relationship with existing and potential donors is recorded accurately using the Raiser’s Edge database; 11. To support the Head of Philanthropy in the preparation of briefing papers and fundraising proposals, as required; 12. As appropriate, to work with other DAR colleagues to provide input in specific fundraising campaigns, including telephone fundraising, direct mail, on-line giving, legacy giving, etc.; 13. To collaborate with academic and professional services colleagues across the University to maximise opportunities for the development of fundraising activities; 14. To attend fundraising events, Distinguished Lectures, graduation ceremonies and other events representing the University as required; 15. To self-manage diary appointments and meetings.
