The career development of my team members is incredibly important to me. I have spent most of my career at King’s, seeing it move from a £44m campaign to a £500m campaign, and now planning for the third major campaign. GUY’S CANCER Guy’s Cancer is one of the leading providers of care, treatment and research for people with cancer. It is home to some of the best cancer specialists in the country, as well as the very latest state-of-the-art facilities, pioneering treatments and extensive research programmes. Guy’s Cancer is part of something much bigger, formed of two major partners. Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is an internationally renowned healthcare organisation with expertise across the full range of medical care. King’s College London, a world top 20 university, is the academic partner within Guy’s Cancer. King’s delivers world-class research into new methods of treatment and care for a large range of common and rare cancers.

ABOUT GUY’S CANCER The new state-of-the-art, 14-floor Cancer Centre at Guy’s Hospital in London Bridge brings almost all services under one roof, which allows for the delivery of seamless care to its patients. The Centre offers a welcoming, uplifting environment, designed by leading architect, Lord Richard Rogers, with the needs of its patients at the heart of the design process. At Guy’s Cancer, there is a profound understanding of the multidimensional impact of cancer on a patient and their loved ones. Medical needs are assessed and a bespoke package of care is devised, including support for emotional, social and family needs. For patients who need support as they approach the end of life, a specialist palliative care team can help to make every day count.

Beyond clinical provision, the Centre provides additional physical, psychological and emotional support. It houses a patient gym and offers a bespoke programme of care and wellbeing services designed to optimise recovery. These include counselling and therapy support, nutrition advice,

VICKI SLOAN, HEAD OF MAJOR GIFTS, INTERNATIONAL “I joined the team as a Senior Major Gifts Manager three years ago, after working in the charity sector in organisations such as Shelter and Book Trust. I came to here to learn, and I haven’t been disappointed. I’ve had the chance to work on the biggest gifts of my career and build my international experience, something that is hard to gain at many other organisations. F&SD has supported me to gain experience in the US around specific projects, which has led me to take on the maternity cover for the Head of Major Gifts, International – an amazing opportunity”.
