THE SCHOOL OF ARTS & HUMANITIES The School of Arts and Humanities
is one of the six Schools within the University of Cambridge and is a
world-renowned research and teaching
institution, unparalleled in its field. With
countless notable alumni, both historical and contemporary, the School has roots dating back to the 13th century. Whilst the School has a prestigious historical
standing, the study of Arts and Humanities at Cambridge remains deeply engaged
with the modern world. It is distinguished by research and teaching of the highest
standards, which consistently challenges the boundaries of convention and
strikes at the core of perceptions and
understandings of the world and of the individual.
The School is comprised of the Faculties of Architecture and History of Art, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Classics,
Divinity, English, Modern and Medieval Languages, Music, and Philosophy.
Also incorporated within the School is
the Centre for Research in Arts, Social
Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH) as
well as the Language Centre, which was
established in 1990 and which became an institution within the School in 2011. The Graduate School of Arts and Humanities
was first established in January 2010 and provides a strong voice for the Arts and Humanities at graduate level.
Recent projects that have been made possible through philanthropy include the Establishment of the new Centre
for Humanities and Social Change, an
interdisciplinary research centre focused on developing major research projects investigating the interface between
technology and social change. In addition, in 2017 the Polish Studies Programme
at the University received an endowment which will ensure that the study and
teaching of Polish language, culture and literature will continue in perpetuity.
