Contribute fully as a member of the DDAR SMT, ensuring a collaborative approach across the Division. Contribute actively to the development of DDAR strategic and operational plans, ensuring alignment with University priorities.

Provide valuable and visible leadership across the University on DDAR strategy and operational matters, including advising the University’s senior leadership team.

Working with the Director and Deputy Directors, be available on a confidential basis as requested for consultation on, and potential involvement in, HR matters across the Division.

JOB DESCRIPTION STRATEGIC PLANNING, POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND CONSULTANCY •

Lead the strategic planning and delivery for major giving, regular giving, development communications and donor relations, working collaboratively with Deputy Director, Global and Transformational Philanthropy. Ensure effective strategic objectives and operational plans are in place to deliver philanthropic and engagement outputs and outcomes.

Actively monitor trends in fundraising (major giving, legacy giving and regular/mass giving), adapting strategy accordingly to ensure long term growth in philanthropic income.

Exercising a high level of independent judgment, serve as a specialist, expert fundraising professional in the area of development, leading strategies that include complex gift discussions and interaction with donors capable of making significant contributions; provide high level support and consultancy to the University Senior Leadership team and colleagues across the University as ‘resident expert’ on development.

Provide the Director and University senior leadership team with high quality business and management information, ensuring that management information on progress in development is regularly analysed and reported on in an accurate, efficient and timely manner, with clear action-planning taking place in response to management information.

Ensure the fundraising programme is informed and improved by continuous learning from data analysis, external benchmarking tools such as the Ross-CASE Survey and other global fundraising surveys and analytical reports.

Represent the University nationally and internationally, including but not exclusively through the Council for the Advancement of Education (CASE), ensuring external recognition for the University in fundraising, to support the profession as a whole, but also to keep abreast of new innovations and best practice and to use this insight in strategic planning and implementation.

Develop and monitor a framework for philanthropic opportunities across the University, including scholarships and access provision, academic posts and research programmes, to ensure strategic alignment, legal compliance and consistency in gift levels, and to create innovative new philanthropic programmes in response to key University priorities and emerging opportunities, working with the Senior Leadership Team, key academic and Professional Services colleagues across the University to ensure robust design, agreement and implementation.

Working closely with the Deputy Director, Global and Transformational Philanthropy, and Heads of Philanthropy, develop and strengthen the understanding of principles of fundraising among academic champions and other leaders by means of workshops, seminars, and one-to-one conversation and training.

Effectively lead a high-performing Development team, setting ambitious team and individual objectives, supporting and inspiring people to achieve them, creating an energised team and championing individual development.

Responsible for ensuring you and your team adhere to relevant fundraising regulation and current data legislation whilst ensuring fundraising is ethical and that due diligence is undertaken as necessary.

Undertake national and international travel as required and undertake other such duties as may be required from time-to-time by the Director of Development.

Working with the Heads of Philanthropy and the Senior Development Officer (University-wide), develop, lead and implement the major gifts strategy focussing on increasing the number of five-, six- and seven-figure gifts from alumni, nonalumni, charitable trusts, organisations.

Oversee development communications strategy, ensuring effective coordination, collaboration and shared objectives with the Alumni Engagement team and the Directorate of Communications and Marketing.

Work closely with the Directors and senior teams of the University’s cultural institutions, developing and agreeing fundraising priorities and strategies.

Write and oversee complex and compelling proposals in consultation with the Heads of Philanthropy, DDAR and academic colleagues.

Work directly with the Vice Presidents and Deans of all faculties on engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for major gift donors and potential donors, including leading quarterly reviews of relationships and progress, along with relevant Heads of Philanthropy.

Working with the Heads of Development, ensure donor stewardship and communications are innovative, impactful and of a high quality - seeking to be sector leading.

Work directly with the Director of Student Experience to identify and shape compelling philanthropic priorities aligned to the University strategy.

JOB DESCRIPTION BUDGET AND INCOME GENERATION •

Responsible for, and lead the strategy for, a complex, multi-channel income stream for the University, achieving agreed £multi-million fundraising targets working within an agreed expenditure budget.

Personally develop and manage a well-defined portfolio of prospective/current major gift donors; to identify areas of shared interests, and to develop pathways of interest, participation and involvement that lead to high-level (six-figure and above) philanthropic support for the University.

Work closely with the Heads of Philanthropy and the wider development team to ensure there are appropriate and effective strategies for all major gift donors and potential donors in their pools, leading to a successful and sustainable major gift programme, ensuring annual income targets are met.

Work creatively and proactively with the Prospect Research team to build a strong pipeline of potential donors, ensuring effective and impactful future performance.

Oversee the legacy fundraising strategy to significantly increase legacy income for the University, creating a critical source of flexible, discretionary income.

Working with the Heads of Development, develop and deliver an innovative regular giving futurefocussed strategy for alumni, students and staff to increase both the reach of regular giving programmes and income, strengthening the long-term health of philanthropy for the University.

Working with the Deputy Directors, take responsibility for the expenditure budget to support the DDAR strategy, currently a total of £5.3 million.

Responsible for financial planning and resource allocation; monitor fundraising budgets to ensure maximum efficiency, value for money and delivery of key objectives.

Working collaboratively with the Deputy Director, Global and Transformational Philanthropy, identify philanthropic priorities which support the University’s financial sustainability and ensure the Development team are delivering against financial targets to ensure a proportion of philanthropic income is discretionary/budget relieving.
