PHILANTHROPY TEAM
REPORTS TO Head of Philanthropy JOB PURPOSE To deliver and grow a programme of funding from major donors/funders for both capital and revenue activities, with a particular focus initially on a new Science & Learning Centre at RHS Garden: Wisley.
HEAD OF PHILANTHROPY
DIMENSIONS 3 direct reports (2 x Philanthropy Executives, 1 x Philanthropy Administrator), working as part of the Philanthropy Team of 8 ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. To manage and grow a personal portfolio of major donor prospects, identifying new opportunities for funding from a range of donors, family foundations and other funders. 2. To deliver a pipeline of major donor prospects and associated applications, maintaining and increasing funding to reach set income targets. 3. Work closely with the wider Philanthropy Team and Fellows team to lead on the cultivation of major donors through the highest quality events and RHS experiences. 4. Work across the organisation to fundraise for number of specific RHS fundraising appeals. 5. To develop compelling and well written proposals for support, prioritising those donors who can give upwards of £100k. 6. To work with colleagues to administer a high quality donor care programme, ensuring that stewardship is of the highest standard possible.

PERSON SPECIFICATION KNOWLEDGE

1. Demonstrable experience of successful high value major donor fundraising, with experience of personally asking for gifts of at least 5-figure value

2. Track record of developing profitable relationships with major donors, trustees and trust contacts 3. Excellent knowledge and understanding of high level major donors, particularly those who fund heritage, education, young people and the arts 4. An interest in Horticulture [Desirable] EXPERIENCE 1. Extensive experience and proven track record of high level major donor fundraising to meet given deadlines and financial targets 2. Demonstrable experience of writing successful proposals for support of at least 5-figure value 3. Demonstrable experience of working in a fundraising/development office 4. Experience of working closely with trustees / non-executives SKILLS JOB COMPETENCES 1. Extensive experience of building relationships and influencing individuals towards major donations 2. Ability to produce engaging, succinct and well-written proposals 3. Excellent knowledge of high level individual donors and family trusts 4. Good judgement in deciding appropriate manner to deal with a diverse range of donor relationships 5. Ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the RHS, including the President, project teams and colleagues across different sites 6. Ability to work independently, including carrying out research and using initiative to identify new donors as a priority, to grow pipelines 7. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills – tactful and diplomatic, with the ability to communicate well to different audiences

Victoria, London SW1 with travel to RHS sites in the UK, particularly Wisley in Surrey
Provided at three times an employee's salary.
SALARY Competitive WORKING PATTERN Full time. (Flexible hours or a reduced working week are possibilities for an outstanding candidate). ANNUAL LEAVE 25 days annual leave per annum plus Bank Holidays. After three years' service employees receive an extra three days annual leave, and after 10 years service a further two days annual leave. There is also a buy and sell annual leave option, allowing for adding an extra week or ‘cashing in’ a week. PENSION The RHS provides a Group Pension Plan, which employees are able to join from their start date. All eligible staff will be automatically enrolled into the RHS Group Pension Plan after completion of three months' service.
