WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR OF FUNDRAISING Thank you for your interest in our Trust and Foundations Lead role. Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) is the independent charity that raises funds and makes grants in order to improve the experience of patients and their families at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals in Cambridge. Over the last 5 years ACT have raised over £50m achieving benefits for patients and families that are over and above those that can be achieved through the NHS. We invest in projects that enable the hospital to treat more patients, transform NHS care, drive innovation through technology and process-driven change, cutting-edge research projects, the latest equipment to speed up treatment and recovery, or give patients a bit of normality with less fear and anxiety while they’re in hospital. Hospital staff that work with the charity see us as proactive, problem-solving, successful and passionate about what we do. We are embarking on an ambitious strategy to double our voluntary income over 5 years; moving away from traditional fundraising methods. Instead we will focus on building a sustainable “grateful patients” fundraising programme, training and educating hospital staff to recognise when philanthropic opportunities present themselves. To support that philosophy, we are seeking a Trusts and Foundations Lead who is highly motivated, innovative and always looking for the next opportunity, someone who knows how to adapt their style and approach to the person and situation. Building excellent and enduring relationships with our major funders is the corner stone of our Relationships team, and if you are great at what you do, excited by a challenge and want to work hard doing a job that you love, I would really like to hear from you. Gemma Downham Director of Fundraising

ADDENBROOKE’S CHARITABLE TRUST - ACT ACT raises funds to support Addenbrooke's and the Rosie - the Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH). Thanks to the generous support of ACT’s donors, the Hospitals can provide a level of patient care beyond that which NHS funding alone can deliver, and make projects happen sooner, or to a greater degree, than might otherwise be possible. The Hospitals have earned the reputation of being among the world’s best academic healthcare organisations, and ACT’s aim is to support those achievements by raising funds for cutting-edge technology, additional specialist staff, environmental enhancements and extra comforts for patients that make all the difference. The Charity also provides funding for early stage research projects, supporting the hospitals’ clinical academics who are keen to embark on a research career. This funding then often leverages more ambitious research funding opportunities, which can be an essential component in advancing treatments, identifying global cures and ultimately saving lives. ACT is an ambitious Charity with a bold and strategic vision located in a beautiful and thriving city. ACT is also a very special place to work – a complex, exciting, stimulating Charity, employing highly talented individuals who support Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie to provide excellent care and undertake outstanding research.

THE FUNDRAISING DEPARTMENT ACT is one of the largest NHS Charities outside London. Its income has grown year-on-year as it has evolved from being a “receiving” charity to a proactive fundraising organisation with its own professional fundraising team. The Charity raises on average £5M pa and spends £0.5m every month on patient care. ACT fundraises in order to support projects and facilities that are beyond the boundaries of NHS funding, in order to achieve the highest possible standards and outcomes in patient experience, clinical care, research and education. In 2015, the Charity celebrated its tenth anniversary. In 2016, it played a major role in the 250th anniversary celebrations of Addenbrooke’s Hospital. In March 2017, the Charity adopted a new, modern constitution and became fully independent of the NHS. Also in 2017, Gemma Downham was appointed Director of Fundraising to lead an ambitious and innovative fundraising programme. The Fundraising team has big ideas for the future and has been restructured in order to deliver these.

CITY OF CAMBRIDGE Cambridge is one of the most ancient of cities as well as one of the world’s fastest growing business clusters. With a population of only 120,000, the city has more billion-pound companies than much larger UK cities, near full-employment, and productivity levels 30% above London. This success will be further added to as a result of the expansion of the Addenbrooke’s site as the new Cambridge Biomedical Campus is built. This will be a world-class centre of excellence in biomedical related research, patient care and education. By 2020, it will be one of the leading biomedical centres in the world. Cambridge is also rapidly becoming the most exciting technology cluster in Europe, with companies such as Microsoft and Apple alongside exciting startup companies, with a total of some 4,000 knowledgeintensive firms. The City has one of the highest concentrations of Nobel prize-winners in the world. Regularly voted one of the top 10 places to live and work in the UK, Cambridge has become an increasingly dynamic and desirable place to live and work.
