FUNDRAISING

COMMUNICATIONS & DONOR STEWARDSHIP

Director of Development

Develop and manage a personal portfolio of donors and prospects and lead the solicitation planning process for those prospects and fundraising targets identified as being within the post-holder’s responsibility.

In collaboration with the Director of Development develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy with donors and the wider Rugbeian Community.

Manage and develop regular giving fundraising initiatives (including telephone campaigns), to generate new regular gifts and retain existing donors, and contribute to their future strategic development.

Work with the School’s Marketing Team to promote the Arnold Foundation, and fundraising, and ensure that fundraising communications are consistent with the central marketing strategy of the School.

Manage and enhance the 1567 regular giving programme and publicise the programme and its impact to members of the Rugby School Community.

Work with the Rugbeian Society to ensure that communications and the events programme are complementary and consistent with the agreed strategy to engage Rugbeians in activities associated with networking and fundraising and the School.

Develop and implement the strategy for legacy fundraising. Seek ways to promote legacy giving to all members of the Rugby Community in order to achieve an agreed minimum of new pledges annually.

Manage the recognition and stewardship programme for all donors through special events, reports, publications and communications.

Assist in building a prospect pool, especially with a view to identifying new major gift potential donors for future fundraising campaigns and legacy donors.

Seek ways to cultivate relationships with all past, current and potential donors with a view to securing their on-going or future support either financially or by endorsement to others.

Ensure the database is kept up to date with all relevant contact report information including all solicitations, thank you correspondence and approaches to prospects for regular giving, legacies and mass marketing appeals.

Ensure effective communication to internal and external constituencies on the progress, success and results of fundraising activities.

Act as Editor of the annual Arnold Foundation Review and donors publications.

Develop and manage the digital strategy in support of fundraising and websites through the websites, RugbeiansConnect, online communications and social media.

JOB PURPOSE The Assistant Director, Development has an important role in overseeing and coordinating specific fundraising activities, including the generation of regular gifts, legacy giving and growing a portfolio of donors. Two other key areas are the coordination of operational work of the Development Office including managing the day to day running of the office and overseeing the work of the Senior Research Officer and the Development Officers, maintenance of systems and stewardship of former Arnold Foundation students and the development and management of the communications strategy for our fundraising, including donor stewardship, events, publications and the websites.

Review progress on a regular basis with the Director of Development.

JOB DESCRIPTION MANAGEMENT •

Day to day management of the Development Office.

Oversee the work of the Development Office team, manage and prioritise workload, and conduct annual performance reviews.

Ensure donations, reporting, monitoring and procedures are all being managed effectively and implement new initiatives to improve efficiency.

Organise the induction, training, support and mentoring for staff, including new members, in technical and other aspects of fundraising.

Develop constructive professional relationships with colleagues across the School.

Take initiative and seek ways to keep up to date with School activities.

Represent the Arnold Foundation and the School at Development Office events in London, Rugby and elsewhere.

Undertake other duties as may be required from time to time by the Director of Development.

PERSON SPECIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

KNOWLEDGE

A good general level of education, including a degree or equivalent.

Strong computer literacy with ability to use and understand Microsoft Office and social media.

Experience in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts from individuals.

Comprehensive knowledge of tax efficient giving methods including legacies.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a fundraising/ marketing/relationship building role.

Practical and theoretical knowledge of database management.

Experience of using the Raiser’s Edge or CRM database and knowledge of prospect research.

Experience of managing a team. [Desirable]

Demonstrable understanding of data protection and data compliance and a working knowledge of GDPR and PECR.

Experience of planning and managing events. [Desirable]
