ACCOUNTABILITIES

Head of Philanthropy

1. Together with the Head of Philanthropy and the Director of Education, Funding and Communities, lead the achievement of the fundraising plans for RHS Garden Bridgewater.

JOB PURPOSE

2. Maintain and grow strong major funding relationships with major donors, family trusts and foundations, corporates and Society influencers and networks.

As part of the Philanthropy team, to be the lead fundraiser managing and delivering the fundraising plan by building successful relationships with funders to raise significant funds to enable the creation of RHS Garden Bridgewater in Salford.

DIMENSIONS The Senior Philanthropy Manager reports to the Head of Philanthropy within a team of seven, all based in London. The role will be part of a small but growing team, based at RHS Garden Bridgewater.

3. To directly manage and lead on a portfolio of major donor relationships, developing strategies for cultivation and asking, leading to high level support. 4. Proactively identify new prospective funders across all income streams to build pipelines and to lead and manage the cultivation of these new prospects. 5. Ensure prospect pipelines are managed accurately, that actions are progressed on time and recorded for reporting purposes. 6. Lead and manage a rolling programme of funder cultivation and stewardship activity, supported by the wider fundraising team. 7. Ensure the Bridgewater case for support and other fundraising marketing materials for funders and prospects are developed to keep them engaged with the new garden. 8. Prepare applications, proposals, reports and presentation materials for funders and prospects, working closely with the Head of Philanthropy, Grants Development Team, and RHS Corporate Partnerships team. 9. To develop a network of other contacts within the arts/heritage/science within the region to raise the profile of RHS Garden Bridgewater and to gain a better understanding of local fundraising opportunities. 10. To ensure that fundraising activity fits within the framework of fundraising protocols and other RHS wide guidelines and procedures. 11. To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required of the role. 12. To ensure own safety, and the safety of others who may be affected by your actions. Employees must follow instructions and co-operate at all times with their line manager to enable the RHS to meet its legal responsibilities. Employees must stop work if the nature of the situation involves risk of serious injury to any person and must report any hazardous situation or defective equipment to their line manager without delay.

PERSON SPECIFICATION KNOWLEDGE 1. Extensive understanding and experience of capital campaigns, major donor fund-raising, high net-worth relationships or corporate fundraising. 2. Understanding of individual and/or corporate motivations for philanthropic giving. 3. An interest in or knowledge of heritage, horticulture, science or the arts. [Desirable]

EXPERIENCE 1. Demonstrable track record of personally securing gifts of at least 5 figure value. 2. Experience of working with trustees or senior level volunteers to develop networks and prospects.

2. Good judgement in deciding appropriate manner to deal with a diverse range of funder, senior volunteer and senior staff relationships. 3. Ability to produce well-presented and well-written information for creative applications and proposals. 4. Ability to work independently and highly motivated, and also to work well as part of a wider fundraising team based over several sites.

TERMS & CONDITIONS LOCATION

LIFE ASSURANCE

Preferably in Salford (RHS Garden Bridgewater) with occasional travel to London. Or based in London with minimum of 2 days per week at RHS Garden Bridgewater and the North West.

Provided at three times an employee's salary.

Some home working may be considered. SALARY Competitive WORKING PATTERN 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday ANNUAL LEAVE 25 days annual leave per annum plus Bank Holidays. After three years' service employees receive an extra three days annual leave, and after 10 years service a further two days annual leave. There is also a buy and sell annual leave option, allowing for adding an extra week or ‘cashing in’ a week. PENSION
