VAVEAO TOA

Vaveao Toa started teaching in one of the government primary schools in the town area (Vaivase Primary School) in 1996. Towards the end of 1997 she received a teacher’s certificate as an official document. She then continued teaching in the same school and at the beginning of 1998 she enrolled in the National University of Samoa in Diploma of Arts course as a part time student. On her application for a partial scholarship she was awarded the scholarship. In 2002 she completed the course and received a diploma in arts certificate. In 2003 she enrolled in a Bachelor Degree course and received a partial scholarship. Her major areas of study included in his bachelor’s degree are Samoan Language and History (focused on Samoa). At the end of 2004 she received a Bachelor’s Degree. In 2005 she took up a teaching job at one of the private schools in Apia (Samoa Primary School) and worked there for two years (2005-2006). In December 2006 she was the successful applicant of the position Museum/Archives Officer as advertised by the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture under the Culture division. She has been recently appointed the Senior Archives Officer at the Culture Division of the Ministry of Education, Sports & Culture. She was not always an archives person, however studying the history of her country planted the interest in her to be involved in the safeguarding and safekeeping of archival documents which holds a great deal of Samoa’s identity.
