QUILT AND TEXTILE ART SHOW Dear Quilters How will you do AQC this year? There are several options. Dip your toe into the water with a day ticket, to shop for supplies and see the quilts? Or go the whole way as a VIP delegate and attend classes upstairs? Perhaps you’d like to attend a lecture by Luke Haynes or Angela Walters – you can do that too. However you choose to do AQC, plan your trip now because it’s going to be an unmissable event for quilters. In a first for AQC, we have an exchange of themed quilts with the Quilters of Mexico. First it’s our turn – we’ll hang the Mexican quilts from their flora and fauna challenge alongside our own challenge quilts. The themes are the same so it will be an interesting display, Made in Australia: Flora & Fauna meets Mexican wildlife. Next year our quilts will travel to Mexico to hang in the quilt show there. And speaking of flowers, Velda Newman is bringing a couple of huge floral works – can’t wait to see them hanging in the REB under that beautiful domed ceiling. So many other great quilts will be there too: the Best of Australia quilts, our amazing tutors’ quilts, plus special guest Angela Walters who collaborates with Tula Pink is bringing a display of their work. In the USA, QuiltCon is the major event of the modern quilting world and they’re bringing their Best of QuiltCon travelling exhibit direct from the US to show at AQC. Hat’s off to Katherine Jones from Tasmania who won Best of Show at QuiltCon, and has a quilt in the Best of Australia display too – Wow! Well done Katherine! You’ll see both of these works at the AQC Quilt Show. New this year is our Innovation Centre – free demonstrations of brand new tools, gadgets and products for your quilt making. Check it out, and enjoy the many other new products, fabric ranges, machines and designs that are launched at AQC. See you there,
