Welcome Dear Craft Fair Friends,
One of the best things about the Craft & Quilt Fair is seeing the work of other people and sharing ideas. We can all learn and be inspired by seeing what other creative souls are making. This fair is jam-packed with inspiration. Included in your ticket to the fair will be the annual exhibition of Canberra Quilters – a showcase of amazing local talent with new quilts and textile works on display. Also on display will be the Aussie Bush Project; an exhibition of shared work initiated by Dijanne Cevaal. Her original linocut designs printed on hand dyed fabric panels, have been embroidered and embellished by people around the country – a lovely way to share ideas. Come and see the pieces hung together. We are also bringing an international exhibition of art quilts with work from seven different countries. If papercraft is your thing catch the demonstrations where you can learn how to use all those fun products and gadgets to make cards and artworks. Or you could take up some relaxing Japanese stitching, and learn about shibori dyeing. As usual we will have a full program of workshops and hands-on sessions, all day every day of the fair. For the latest updates, visit the website at www.craftevents.com.au For the latest information, like us on facebook at /intocraft and follow us on Instagram @intocraft. Grab a cuppa, sit back, relax and plan your visit. See you there!

Focus on Shibori
Blue and white is a much-loved colour combination amongst artisans around the world, and blue and white shibori dyeing is very much on-trend at present. The Japanese art of pleating then tying fabric and dyeing it, can create amazing patterns which are revealed when the fabric is untied. The process can be a simple tie and dye, or quite complex depending on the tying techniques used. Wabi-Sabi Designs are specialists in Japanese fabrics. Enjoy their display of shibori techniques and textile articles at the fair.
SPECIAL TWO-HOUR CLASS Join Shuji from Wabi-Sabi Designs at 2pm in a Make & Take session each day at the fair. Learn to create your own original homewares, give new life to tired whites, or transform plain fabric into a designer textile. Read more on page 18.

Go Modern The 21st Century Woman
Canberra Modern Quilt Guild is pleased to be returning to the Canberra Craft & Quilt Fair for the third year. There’ll be a raffle again this year – first prize is a fabulous quilt made by CMQG members – as well as sewing demonstrations and quilt displays from our members. The theme for the display this year is The 21st Century Woman. Come and see what their creative members have produced in response to this theme.
Textile Retrospective
Remember those school sewing class projects? Then those amazing creations you made when you learned to sew? The formal dress, the first baby dress, and the embroidered table cloth that seemed to take an eternity to make? Or did you create a wedding dress that took all year to embroider?
Quilt by Crystal McGann
CMQG provides an outlet for quilters and crafters of all abilities to connect in person and online, and share their passion for all things quilting. The MQG promotes the art of quilting with a modern aesthetic, and provides encouragement and support to new members interested in learning more about quilting. Through the global MQG movement, the Canberra branch connects with like-minded people around the world, drawing new inspiration and sharing ideas.
These unique textile creations occupy a special place in our heart, and this display will focus on projects made by the members of the ACT Textile Arts Association. Members of ACTTAA - ACT Textile Arts Association each have their own ‘textile journey’. Susan Chapman, President of the group explains, ‘We are a diverse group engaging in a variety of textile related activities. Our ‘journeys’ therefore depict a diversity of styles and techniques, often covering many years, in some cases from childhood to the present. Items will be displayed in time sequence for each member with labels stating techniques used and when the piece was completed. No doubt it will trigger many memories of your own projects made through the years. Presented by ACT Textile Arts Association

COLLAGE TO STITC The themes chosen and the approaches taken reflect personal passions and generally revolve around nature. Flowers, trees and gardens were frequent topics for reflection by artists Maxine Fry, Ruth Galpin, Suzanne Gummow and Sandra Obst. See the collages along with the resulting textile artworks on display at the Canberra Craft & Quilt Fair and meet artist Sandra Obst.

Aussie Bush Project Textile Artist Dijanne Cevaal
Textile artist Dijanne Cevaal has conducted two international projects in recent years, The Sentinelles and The Medieval Project; she designed and printed hand dyed lino-cut prints which textile artists embellished with stitch. Panels feature four different Australian bush themes which have been embellished and embroidered by stitchers around the country. The themes are Gumnuts and Gum Leaves; Banksia Cones and Flowers; Unfurling Fern Frond and Blackwoods Dancing. Meet Dijanne at the fair and enjoy her demonstrations of lino cutting and printing. Giving all kids creativity The Craft for Kids Foundation was established for the collection and distribution of craft supplies, to give to charities for children in their care to use in craft activities. Craft allows children to explore their creativity and is pure expression through their eyes with no rules or boundaries. The materials they work with are tactile, colourful and varied and provide children of all capacities to explore, with the satisfaction of making something as a gift or to keep. Craft for Kids Foundation will donate craft supplies to charities that care for Australian children who are physically, emotionally, financially or geographically disadvantaged. You are invited to bring in your unwanted craft supplies and place them in the special Craft for Kids Foundation area at the fair. Your donation will be stored in Expertise Events’ warehouse then delivered to charities. Craft items you can donate include yarn, fabric, paper, lace, braid, craft tools, glue and embellishments. Items that won’t be accepted include: money, unfinished projects, knitting needles, crochet hooks or pattern books.
WoodworkersLive! See skilled craftsmen working – live at the fair.
Come and see the Western Sydney Woodturners Association Inc in action. There will be lathes and other tools being worked. The ‘woodies’ will demonstrate and explain the finer details of the art of wood turning, making bowls, platters, pens and many other items. PLUS browse a large display of finished works. Buy a gorgeous timber gift, learn about lathe and other timber work, or just watch the creative fun.
