Pixelated patchwork Meet Pixel Quilter Andi Herman! Andi Herman is a quilter who has turned her passion for quilting into a cool way to create ‘pixelated quilts’ that are just perfect as wall art, bed quilts and much more! Andi first learned to quilt at age eight when her grandmother was making her one and only patchwork quilt. Twenty years later, Andi returned to quilting to re-connect with this amazing woman in her life. Since then she has well and truly caught the quilting ‘bug’ and decided to create ‘YouPatch’. YouPatch is a piece of software that can turn any digital image into a comprehensive pixel quilt pattern, complete with yardage requirements, cutting and assembly instructions and full colour diagrams to make pixel quilt making accessible to any quilt-maker. With the help of husband Dan and webmaster John, Andi has turned this software into an online business.

Fashion forward fun! See the daily handmade fashion parade and knitwear parade at the show! If you love the idea of bespoke fashion and want inspiration for your next project, catch the daily fashion parades from the Australian Sewing Guild. The theme of the garments on show is ‘Black & White with a Splash of Colour’ and with garments ranging from casual/ smart to race wear, there’s something for everybody! Fashion Parade times: 11am and 2.30pm daily Also catch the daily knitwear parade of stunning knitted garments using the finest wools and yarns from Dairing and Lola Lovegrove, including tops, throwovers and lightweight children’s knits for summer. Knitwear parade: 12.30pm daily

See Andi at the show with a display of her contemporary pixel creations. Plus bring your crafty questions and see Andi demonstrating the YouPatch software daily: 11am Pixel Block Construction 1pm Demonstration of YouPatch software

Nothing like a Daimler! See this amazing yarn-bombed car at the show! Yarn bombing – or guerrilla knitting – is street art that uses a colourful display of knitted or crocheted yarn or fibre. Yarn Corner is the Melbourne-based group behind this extraordinary work and its members come from many walks of life, and all crafting skill levels. Discover more about this group of artists’ works and what motivates them – catch their fascinating floor talks at 11am daily at the Yarn Corner stand.

The Sentinelles

Mixed Media

Enjoy a display of embroidered textile art!

Ro Bruhn is our guest artist at the show! Guest artist Ro Bruhn makes a variety of things in the textile art and mixed media arena: think art journals, collage, printing on paper and fabric, stamping, jewellery and more!

The Sentinelles exhibition is the concept of Dijanne Cevaal and originally consisted of just the large pieces by Dijanne in this display. She then hand printed smaller panels that could be bought by others to create embroideries, and each purchaser of these hand printed panels could embroider or embellish the pieces in their own way. This has resulted in contributions by stitchers throughout France, Australia, and a number of other countries. Each piece explores aspects of the earth and each sentinel deals with aspects of the environment. The term Sentinelle infers watching over. Dijanne has recently returned from a successful exhibition tour with the Sentinelles in France, this moving display can be seen at The Stitches & Craft Show, before returning to France by popular demand.

“My passion is working with fabrics, papers, jewellery and painting in acrylic and pastels. Colour plays a vital role in my work; its influence can be seen across all forms of my art. My love of colour has been influenced over the years by Kaffe Fassett, the master of colour. I attended one of his workshops many years ago and have worked with lots of colour ever since”, says Ro. Ro Bruhn’s work has been exhibited in several exhibitions and her artworks can be seen in Australian and international collections. Meet Ro and watch her at work at The Stitches & Craft Show.

International Textile Art An international textile art exhibition has landed in Australia and will be on display at the show. 50 small exhibition art quilts celebrate the SAQA group’s 25th anniversary and are one of eight trunk shows that are travelling the world until 2017.

See

50 wo from arorks the worund ld

Trunk Show G which will tour Australia includes internationally renowned art quilters such as Dianne Firth (Australia), Hsin-Chen Lin (Taiwan), Alicia Merrett (England) and Cynthia St Charles (USA). The trunk show is a wonderful way to view and engage with quilts made using a wide variety of styles, techniques and fibres by many who are considered masters in their field. SAQA is an international non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the art quilt and the artists who create them. SAQA is also a resource on all things art quilt related for both its members and the general public. Founded in 1989 by an initial group of 50 artists, SAQA members now number more than 3,000 artists, teachers, collectors, gallery owners, museum curators and corporate sponsors across the globe. A dedicated core of volunteers and staff keep the organisation vibrant, dynamic, and progressive. Each work measures 25.4cm x 17.8cm (10in x 7in) and is part of SAQA’s third trunk show.

5000 Poppies Help us create a wall of poppies Lynn Berry and Margaret Knight are on a mission to create a field of more than 25,000 handcrafted poppies in Federation Square, Melbourne on Anzac Day 2015 for the Anzac Centenary Commemoration. They set what they thought was ‘a challenging but achievable target’ of 5,000 poppies in June 2013 and since then this phenomenal project has taken off like wildfire in craft communities around the country and indeed around the world. The show will feature a wall which you are invited to cover with your handmade poppies. See the poppies on display, deliver your crafted poppies or visit the display with your materials and make one with the team at the show!

Your handmade poppies can be crocheted, knitted, felted or sewn. Any shade of red can be used and poppies should be no more than 15cm in diameter. There is no limit to the amount of poppies that can be submitted and there is no entry fee. Contributors are asked to provide their own materials. For further information on the project – and patterns – visit the blog, 5000poppies.wordpress.com and the 5000 Poppies Facebook page.
