Eduardo Alvarez Aznar, Katrin Eckermann, Maikel van der VleutenEXPLAINED GCL
SHOW JUMPING’S GREATEST TEAM CHALLENGE
This GCL season promises excitement with the roster of meticulously selected teams competing in a 16-event series. Team Owners and Managers focus on strategic refinement for a highly charged season, with a format combining Round 1 and Round 2 on the same day with no drop score.
Launched in 2016, the GCL features global teams with at least one U25 per team, fostering young talent. Each tour stop includes two rounds, and combined scores from Round 1 carry into Round 2.
The no-drop-score format simplifies team competition for new audiences. Round 1 is a CSI 5* 1.55m class, and a short break allows strategic changes before the CSI 5* 1.60m Round 2. Teams earn points at every stage throughout the year, leading to the championship Final. The top four teams post-Final earn a fast track to the GC Playoffs in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the GCL Super Cup Semi-Finals allowing them to skip the knockout Quarter-Finals and keep the horsepower fresh.
QUICK FACTS:
• Each team can have three riders per event, with two competing in each round.
• Teams carry penalties from Round 1 to determine Round 2 starting order.
• The GCL winners of that stage have the fewest combined penalties and quickest Round 2 time.
GC Playoffs feature a Super Cup QuarterFinal, Semi-Final, and Final.
• The winning team after the 3 knockout rounds are crowned GCL Super Cup winners in the ultimate showdown.

Can the returning Doha Falcons, full of ultra-competitive riders find the necessary team dynamics to turn ambition into performance? Which team will surprise the world? Allfemale Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames? Or would it be the unprecedented Monaco Aces powered by Lion of Porches line-up?
And why, so deep into this overview have we not yet mentioned the strong Shanghai Swans or 2-time champions Valkenswaard United?
2024 sees a lineup of ever strengthening teams, and with a winter break up their sleeves, and managers who have made interesting signings… the question is, who is going to take on Riesenbeck International in the battle for the 8th GCL title?

NEW YORK EMPIRE!
New York Empire Powered by Lugano Diamonds are once again on the starting grid with a powerpacked team ready to do battle in the 2024 GCL championship.
The beating heart of New York Empire is its great team spirit, which transcends pure sporting ambition. And that spirit is actively fostered by the passion of Team Owner and Rider Georgina Bloomberg.
This season the team, with the eye-catching logo of the New York skyline in the mane of a jumping horse, will be proudly sporting their black and red colours across the globe in the ultimate team show jumping series GCL. Even Georgina’s son Jasper is a familiar face during the year cheering on the team wearing his mini New York Empire polo shirt.
Georgina, who only recently celebrated the birth of her baby boy Sebastian, is aiming to compete during the season along with her riders Denis Lynch, Scott Brash, Spencer Smith, Jodie Hall Mcateer and Paris Sellon forming the six-strong roster. Georgina is also full of praise for her behind-the-scenes support team for New York Empire saying: “I have a great team of people with me for many years.”
Champions riders Scott Brash and Denis Lynch will be crucial anchors for the team complementing the experience of Georgina and US equestrian Spencer Smith as well as the talents of young
American Paris Sellon and U25 rider Jodie Hall Mcateer. Georgina said: “We have had some bad luck the last few seasons, but I believe in our team and hope we can be more competitive. With an Olympic year I know the games will be a focus for a few of our riders. I am going to be rooting them on and trying to fill in the gaps whenever they come up.”
“We have Paris Sellon joining us this season and she has some great horses and is an upcoming American rider who can put in some great results. I’m looking forward to having her as a part of it. I think we will have a nice balance of younger riders and experienced ones and I’m excited to see us all come together to fight for a few wins.”
At the LGCT of Miami Beach, Georgina and her team will be inspired by enthusiastic support from the US spectators at the high energy show with the arena literally next to the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean.
New York Empire’s many fans will be hoping for victory at events around the world during the season and success at the all-important Finals and Playoffs at the end of the year. The team will be proudly supported by sponsors including Lugano Diamonds, for whom Georgina is an Ambassador, and one of her charities, The Rider’s Closet, which ensures riding apparel is accessible to those in need of assistance with cost.
During the 2024 season the hi-energy signature tune “Empire State of Mind” will electrify the atmosphere as New York Empire Powered by Lugano Diamonds enter the GCL show jumping arenas to perform their best in another thrilling showdown.
