It is my great pleasure to welcome everyone to the Longines Global Champions Tour of Stockholm as we kick off the second half of the LGCT and GCL 2024 season. Our fans across Scandinavia always create an amazing atmosphere at the historic venue of the Olympic Stadium in the beautiful Swedish capital.

Each year the huge crowd is full of passion supporting their local champions competing in the LGCT and GCL and all the top international riders and horses. We look forward to an incredible LGCT Grand Prix and GCL team competitions in this grand venue.

I would particularly like to thank our long-time Title Partner and Official Timekeeper Longines for their tremendous commitment over the years. And I hope all our fans enjoy a wonderful weekend of the very best in show jumping.

As Mayor of Stockholm, it’s an honor to welcome once again the global show jumping community to our vibrant city. Our historic Olympic Stadium, originally constructed for the 1912 Olympics and still in active use, stands as an example of sporting excellence and community spirit. From hosting equestrian events in 1956 to providing a space for all Stockholmers to train and exercise freely, the stadium embodies our city’s rich athletic heritage and commitment to inclusivity.

Moreover, I am delighted that alongside the LGCT’s presence in Stockholm, we embrace the opportunity to nurture the stars of tomorrow – our aspiring young riders. We hope that amidst the aura of established world champions and the energy of the tour, these youngsters find inspiration to someday return and compete themselves.

A MINI WATCH, A LARGE VARIETY.

The Mini DolceVita has a significant lineage: it was inspired by a Longines legend created in 1927 and, of course, the original DolceVita family from 1997. That collection triggered the slogan “Elegance is an attitude”, and the Mini DolceVita updates the story for a whole new generation.

EXPLAINED LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR

THE ULTIMATE INDIVIDUAL CHALLENGE

The 2024 Longines Global Champions Tour marks the commencement of the ultimate individual championship visiting 15 destinations worldwide, with an additional bonus event marking the 16th event of the year - the GC Playoffs, this year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the first time.

Horses and riders face challenges in technical courses, diverse arenas, and intense competition. Top equine and human talent compete across Asia, Europe, The Americas, and the Middle East, starting in Doha and travelling to prominent locations like Miami Beach, Mexico City, Monaco, Paris, Shanghai, and more

The coveted Longines Global Champions Tour World Champion title, won by Harrie Smolders in 2023, is at stake. A secondary race for glory involves winning a Golden Ticket, qualifying for the Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix at the GC Playoffs in November. Only 15 tickets are available, awarded through victories in LGCT Grand Prix classes at each stage.

The LGCT Grand Prix, a highlight of each event, features jumps set at 1.60m. Riders can choose horses based on suitability for each event, and 40 horse-rider combinations qualify for each LGCT Grand Prix through a 5* class. Points are awarded in the LGCT Grand Prix at each stage throughout the year, contributing to the overall championship ranking, with riders competing for a share in an extensive prize fool. Each rider’s best 8 scores throughout the season count to their points tally.

Each LGCT Grand Prix winner secures a Golden Ticket for the LGCT Super Grand Prix, adding excitement to the 16-leg tour and the quest for the Champion of Champions title in 2024 awarded at the 16th stage.

SHOW JUMPING’S GREATEST TEAM CHALLENGE

This GCL season promises excitement with the roster of meticulously selected teams competing in a 15-event championship, with a bonus additional event at the GC Playoffs in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the first time. Team Owners and Managers focus on strategic refinement for a highly charged season, with a format combining Round 1 and Round 2 on the same day with no drop score.

Launched in 2016, the GCL features global teams with at least one U25 per team, fostering young talent. Each tour stop includes two rounds, and combined scores from Round 1 carry into Round 2.

The no-drop-score format simplifies team competition for new audiences. Round 1 is a CSI 5* 1.55m class, and a short break allows strategic changes before the CSI 5* 1.60m Round 2. Teams earn points at every stage throughout the year, leading to the championship Final. The top four teams post-Final earn a fast track to the GC Playoffs in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the GCL Super Cup Semi-Finals allowing them to skip the knockout Quarter-Finals and keep the horsepower fresh.

QUICK FACTS:

• Each team can have three riders per event, with two competing in each round.

• Teams carry penalties from Round 1 to determine Round 2 starting order.

• The GCL winners of that stage have the fewest combined penalties and quickest Round 2 time.

GC Playoffs feature a Super Cup QuarterFinal, Semi-Final, and Final.

• The winning team after the 3 knockout rounds are crowned GCL Super Cup winners in the ultimate showdown.

The magical city of Stockholm is the setting for another spectacular destination for the Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL Championships. The fascinating Swedish capital is known as the “Beauty on the Water” and is famous for its islands, bridges and the magnificently preserved Medieval centre. Experience the romantic charm and modern buzz of the city with hotels, restaurants and visitor attractions galore. The LGCT of Stockholm is staged at the historic venue of the Olympic Stadium, which was used for the 1912 Olympic Games, and the atmosphere is electrifying. The passion of Scandinavian fans for show jumping runs deep and each year the sell-out show is a great celebration of incredible sport, entertainment and family fun. It is a crowd like no other at this great stage on the world’s premier show jumping circuit.

Emotions were running high for the Scandinavian stage at the iconic Olympic Stadium in Stockholm. There was a sense of history as riders from across the region dreamed of glory at one of the most passionate events of the season. The Swedish crowd packed the vast grandstands and guests thronged to the hospitality lounges to cheer on their heroes and heroines.

running. The crowd and H&M We Love Horses followers erupted cheering Peder Fredricson and Malin Baryard-Johnsson. Scandinavian Vikings and Riesenbeck International powered by Kingsland Equestrian claimed second and third in the GCL presented by Fastator.

The magic continued in the LGCT Grand Prix of Stockholm presented by Fabege, with allconquering Swede Henrik von Eckermann aboard King Edward victorious but only fractions of a second ahead of Shane Breen and Marcus Ehning.

The high calibre line up of the team’s horses and riders is indisputable and has made them a force to be reckoned with since they burst on to the GCL stage in 2022 finishing second in the overall Championship and 4th in 2023.

The passion and devotion of the team’s legion of fans continues to grow as they follow their heroes on the GCL circuit and they will no doubt be out in force in Stockholm.

In 2024 Stockholm Hearts Powered by H&M have a fascinating new line up setting their sights not only on winning the overall GCL Championship, but also victory in the GCL Super Cup with its record prize money.

Swedish hearts beat loudly for local champion Malin Baryard-Johnsson, who is once again a key ingredient in the team bringing her formidable horses like the great H&M Indiana. At the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm this week the passion of

the crowd for Malin will once again be palpable. Malin’s previous podium finishes at the home stage in the Swedish capital Stockholm had the crowd in ecstasy creating one of the most electric atmospheres of the whole season.

“I’m really happy to be part of Stockholm Hearts one more year. It’s an amazing tour but of course for me, riding in Stockholm in front of the home crowd is very special.”, says Malin.

In a thrilling new signing for 2024 Jessica Springsteen has joined the roster of Stockholm Hearts Powered by H&M. The young American is a fearless competitor and has an impressive string of horses including Don Juan van de Donkhoeve. As well as injecting firepower to the team, the daughter of rock star Bruce also adds a touch of stardust!

This year star Belgian twins Olivier and Nicola Philippaerts are once again in action playing pivotal roles for the team as GCL crosses continents on its 16-stop circuit. Nicola and Olivier bring real human and equine talent, including H&M star horses, in the battle to succeed in the GCL Championship.

“I am really looking forward to the season 2024 with the Stockholm Hearts. I think we have a strong team and we will always push to beat the best teams.” says Olivier.

The skilled French rider Julien Epaillard will be another strong presence for the team, having impressive results already in hand. The new U25 rider is fellow Frenchman Antoine Ermann, a rising star and enjoying his first ever GCL experience this year.

Horses are of course at the heart of this team, but it is the symphony of riders and horsepower that could make all their dreams come true in the GCL this season.

LÖVSTA FUTURE CHALLENGE

Lövsta Future Challenge and LGCT Stockholm are thrilled to announce their continued collaboration to support the show jumping stars of tomorrow. The prestigious event, taking place June 28-30 at Stockholm Stadion, will feature international classes for both U25 riders and 7-year-old horses.

“Today’s young horses and riders are the future of equestrian sports. That’s why we are so excited to open the doors to the historic Stockholm Stadion for these groups!” - Antonia Ax:son Johnson, owner of Lövsta Stud and founder of Lövsta Future Challenge

A total of 30 horses will compete in the Young Horse Lövsta Future Challenge, with twenty spots offered to riders competing in 5* classes during the weekend and ten spots selected by the Swedish National Federation awarded to Swedish based horses.

In this year’s edition of U25 Lövsta Future Challenge, twenty-two of the world’s highestranked U25 riders will be invited, with four spots reserved for Swedish riders.

Ten riders in each category will be invited, five from the host country of Sweden and five foreign riders, for a total of twenty young

riders. The Young Talents classes are a fantastic opportunity for young riders to gain experience in an international environment. Riders will have the unique opportunity to compete in the same arena as the world’s top riders in the main arena at Stockholms Stadion on Friday and Saturday alongside the LGCT of Stockholm.
