About ‘Fundación Exportar’ Fostering Argentine Exports Fundación Exportar is the export promotion agency of the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, aimed at fostering the increase and diversification of Argentine exports. In this regard, provides assistance to the business community in their efforts to conquer new markets in order to accomplish the ultimate goal which is that Argentine companies trade products and services worldwide.
About Argentine Economy Argentina is the third largest economy in Latin America, behind Brazil and Mexico. According to IMF data for 2012, its GDP in terms of purchasing power parity reached US$ 751.391million. Its GDP per capita in 2012, measured in purchasing power parity was of US$18.201.

In the prestigious Global Competitiveness Report 20122013 prepared by the World Economic Forum, Argentina is ranked 94th among 144 economies analyzed, and has been placed within the group of 21 developing economies that are ‘in transition to’ the last stage of development: the ‘innovationdriven economies’ (35 developed economies).

In its report about the performance of Free Exchange Market during 2012, the Argentine Central Bank (BCRA) issued preliminary data stating that Argentine exports of business and professional services showed a positive net balance (revenue minus expenses) of 3,100 million dollars during 2012, representing over a twofold increase as compared to the previous year.
About Argentine Publishing Sector According to the World Organization for Protection of Intellectual Property Organization ( WIPO): “The book publishing industry is based on the ability of a publisher to select or commission a content that the reading public is willing to buy and that meets their interests in various subject areas. The book publishers produce this content in print or other formats (electronic versions of books, periodicals, websites, blogs, etc) and use their skills in sales and marketing to sell this content to readers. ( ... ) The most important economic assets of book publishers are intellectual property rights owned and controlled by them.�
Fundación Exportar and the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MREC), interacts with the Argentine publishing industry to design strategies of promotion the export of books and intellectual property rights of Argentine book publishers. According to the World Trade Organization (WTO), publishing and printing services (88442) are encompassed in Other Business Services. The Regional Center for Bookreading Encouragement in Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLALC) of UNESCO advises that industrial publishing houses should be regarded as “those publishing agents (…) that year after year publish printed, pressed, recorded, burnt, or electronically published books (…), and the output of which is about three titles a year or record over a USD 20,000 turnover on a regular basis.” Under the authorization of the National Culture Secretariat, the National Commission of Public Libraries (CONABIP) represents Argentina at the CERLALC. Moreover, since 1982, the Argentine Book Chamber (CAL) is the institution that has been managing the Argentine ISBN Office, responsible for identifying books published by Argentina.
The Argentine ISBN register is made up of several types of works marketed through different channels, such as: -books; -author’s own publications; -issues and books part of the issue of newspapers and magazines sold in newsstands; -Institutional publishing material from public and private bodies (foundations, NGOs, business chambers, trade unions, banks); -brochures; -free distributed religious books for churches, etc.

of Argentine publishing agents are located in Buenos Aires hinterland (AMBA). The Studies Center for the Metropolitan Economic Development (CEDEM-DGEyC), announced during the Book International Fair 2012 in Buenos Aires that a survey entitled Production Survey on the Publishing Sector (EPSE), would be carried out in a continuous fashion and every three months.

publishing agents make up the Central Editorial Core (NEC) of AMBA (over a total of 328 surveyed institutions), classified into 2 groups: ‘Large-size’, and ‘Small and Medium size’ companies. At the same time, within the frame of AMBA, CEDEM has been carrying out the Bookshop Survey (ENLI) every three months since the 3rd quarter of 2010. In the third quarter of 2012, among the companies surveyed in the AMBA, the ENLI relieved that there are:

About Promotions of Argentine Publishing Sector Fundación Exportar, together with the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MREC), takes part in different international fairs. In 2013, it participated in the following ones: Children International Book Fair in Bologna, ITALY It is the most important international show of children’s book publishers. A special paragraph deserves the award of Isol (www.isol-isol.com.ar), an Argentine illustrator and writer, who was awarded the “Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2013”, announced in the fair, on March 26th, in live from Vimmerby, the birthplace of the famous Swedish writer that names the award, while Sweden was the Honorable Country Guest 2013 of the fair. International Book Fair in Lima, PERU It is organized by the Peruvian Book Chamber with the aim of strengthening the process of internationalization of Peruvian books and publishing offer. Fundación Exportar organized this participation along with the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MREC), with the collaboration of the Argentine Book Chamber (CAL). In Peru, Argentine publishing industry has become a benchmark because of its high quality, also in new formats like online editions.
International Book Fair in Beijing, CHINA It is organized by the ‘China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Corporation’, and during 2013 Argentina was the only country representative of Hispanic literature. This fair is attended by over 2.000 publishing companies, from both mainland China and 76 foreign countries, and receives 200.000 visits. International Book Fair in Frankfurt, GERMANY In 2013, Argentina made its 8th appearance at this international fair, the most important book fair in the world (www.buchmesse.de). In this new edition new conference formats as CONTEC and StoryDrive were presented, attracting new visitors. More than 3.500 participants from 72 countries were present in the more than 20 seminars and conferences. It was organized by the Fundaci贸n Exportar along with the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MREC), with the support of the Argentine Book Chamber (CAL) and the Program for Promotion Argentina University of the Ministry of National Education. International Book Fair in Guadalajara, MEXICO Argentina has been taking part in this event since 2004 and has earned the distinction of HONORABLE COUNTRY GUEST IN GUADALAJARA 2014. In 2013, 62 editorial agents were present in the Argentine Pavilion. This Argentine participation was organized by the Fundaci贸n Exportar along with the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship (MREC), with the support of the Argentine Book Chamber (CAL) and the Program for Promotion Argentina University of the Ministry of National Education. Other promotion spaces of Argentine Publishing Sector Fundación Exportar also organizes: business meetings, conferences, seminars and live show performances, within international fairs from the sector held in Argentina, such as: International Book Fair in Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA It comprises more than 45.000m2 and is the most visited fair in the Spanish speaking world: during its 3 weeks of, it is visited by more than one million readers and more than 10.000 book-related professionals. During 2013, Fundación Exportar organized 222 international business meetings within this fair, conducted with the aim of strengthening the process of internationalization of the Argentine publishing offer, through pre-scheduled meetings with state institutions of Chile, Colombia and Mexico, which were interested in buying: - Books for early childhood, young children in general and for libraries, reading promotion, informational books for children; - Books of general interest to public libraries, digital books and children’s literature, youth and adults. - Literature in general, multimedia, audio, Braille system, political literature, cultural and publishing, and copyrights. - Books for education and university research, movies on dvd and blue ray.
MICA (Argentine Market of Cultural Industries) in Argentina, space to promote cultural production, involving: scenic arts, design, audiovisual industry, publishing sector. 250 international buyers and 2.200 national producers were present during four days in Tecnopolis exhibition center, producing 9.500 business meetings. Fundación Exportar succeeded in coordinating 42 foreign guests in this space, coming from a myriad of regions in the world like: Portugal, Israel, USA, Japan, Mexico, Chile, Germany, Spain, Costa Rica and Colombia, just to name a few destinations. Fundación Exportar has also taken part in the event –on an individual basis–, providing training and education to 100 entrepreneurs about different aspects of foreign trade and business encouragement issues.
