What is Public Relations ? Public relations involves the cultivation of favorable relations for organizations and products with its key publics through the use of a variety of communications channels and tools. Traditionally, this meant public relations professionals would work with members of the news media to build a favorable image by publicizing the organization or product through stories in print and broadcast media. Public relations offers several advantages not found with other promotional options. First, PR is often considered a highly credible form of promotion. One of PR’s key points of power rests with helping to establish credibility for a product, company or person (e.g., CEO) in the minds of targeted customer groups by capitalizing on the influence of a third-party -- the media. Audiences view many media outlets as independent-party sources that are unbiased in their coverage, meaning that the decision to include the name of the company and the views expressed about the company is not based on payment (i.e., advertisement) but on the media

outlet’s judgment of what is important. For example, a positive story about a new product in the business section of a local newspaper may have greater impact on readers than a full-page advertisement for the product since readers perceive the news media as presenting an impartial perspective of the product. Second, a well-structured PR campaign can result in the target market being exposed to more detailed information than they receive with other forms of promotion. That is, media sources often provide more space and time for explanation of a product. Third, depending on the media outlet, a story mentioning a company may be picked up by a large number of additional media, thus, spreading a single story to many locations. Finally, in many cases public relations objectives can be achieved at very low cost when compared to other promotional efforts. This is not to suggest public relations is not costly, it may be, especially when a marketer hires PR professionals to handle the work.

But when compared to the direct cost of other promotions, in particular advertising, the return on promotional expense can be quite high.

GOT PR QUESTIONS? Ask Public Relations Mogul Tam Lawrence

Public relations seems so glamorous, after all what company doesn’t want to say we just hired a PR firm? Public relations if done right can reach a large audience without the expensive cost of traditional advertising and marketing. V#3

Born Marie Dionne Warrick on December 12, 1940, in East Orange, New Jersey, Dionne Warwick has enjoyed a tremendously long career as a singer. She comes from a gospel musical background as the daughter of a record promoter and a gospel group manager and performer. As a teenager, Warwick started up her group, the Gospelaires, with her sister, Dee Dee, and aunt Cissy Houston. After finishing high school in 1959, Warwick pursued her passion at the Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Connecticut. She also landed some work with her group singing backing vocals for recording sessions in New York City. During one session, Warwick met Burt Bacharach. Bacharach hired her to record demos featuring songs written by him and lyricist Hal David. A record executive liked Warwick’s demo so

much that Warwick got her own record deal. Top Pop Vocalist In 1962, Warwick released her first single, “Don’t Make Me Over.” It became a hit the following year. A typo on the record led to an accidental name. Instead of “Dionne Warrick,” the label read “Dionne Warwick.” She decided to keep the new moniker and went on to greater chart success. In 1964, Warwick had two Top 10 singles with “Anyone Who Had a Heart” and “Walk On By”—both penned by Bacharach and David. “Walk On By” was also her first No. 1 R&B hit. More hits, including many written by Bacharach and David, followed as the 1960s progressed. “Message to Michael” made the Top 10 in 1966, and her version of “I Say A Little Prayer” climbed as high as the No. 4 spot the following year.

Warwick also found great success with her contributions to movie soundtracks. The theme song for the 1967 film Alfie, starring Michael Caine, was a solid success for her, as was “Valley of the Dolls,” from the 1968 movie of the same name. In 1968, Warwick had other hits, including her trademark tune “Do You Know the Way to San Jose,” which earned Warwick her first Grammy Award. That same year, Warwick made history as the first African-American woman to perform for Queen Elizabeth II in England.

As a boy, Delta Triplett would sit for hours at a time listening to his father’s rehearsals on drums with the legendary band “Harvey Scales and the Seven Sounds”. He knew that one day he wanted to be in the music/entertainment industry and was excited about what lied ahead for him. As he got older his grandmother would often tell him stories about how she would put a tape recorder on the floor and play the recording of his father’s songs in order to get him asleep. What would you say to someone who has a really great idea, but no idea how to execute it? Your next step is to go to somebody, an expert or consultant, who is seasoned in your industry. You should also seek out a trusted patent attorney who has done a lot of products that may say to you, ‘Okay this is something that has saturated the market because I have x amount of patents for the same thing.’ You really have to find somebody seasoned who can guide you through the steps. Once you have an awesome idea, how do you go about sharing it while assuring it isn’t stolen?

Founder of Inventing A-Z, Lisa Ascolese, has been taking ideas; hers and many others, from concept to fruition for over 35 years and counting. This New Jersey-based entrepreneur, consultant, and agent has successfully created, patented, marketed, and launched dozens of products in QVC, HSN, national retail stores and more. Exposure-Magazine.comr recently caught up with Ascolese to find out how you could become the next great inventor. What makes for a great invention? Ascolese: A great invention is a solution-oriented product; whenever everybody can use that product. A lot of people just want to invent something and that doesn’t work for me. If you continuously struggle with an issue, trust you’re not the only one with that same struggle. If you come up with a solution-oriented product you will win every time for me.

Always, always, always sign a non-disclosure agreement.

— LISA ASCOLESE THE INVENTRESS — A WOMAN OF EXCELLENCE

THE WORLD IS TALKING ABOUT LISA THE INVENTRESS

What is the key to profiting from an idea? It’s marketing and proper branding. It’s naming the product [and] what’s going to make the product sell. You can have a product that’s absolutely spectacular, but if it has the wrong name or the wrong packaging you’re not selling it. Name it the right name, put it on social media, get it into the hands of a show, and get it recognized. You need eyes on the product in order for it to sell. I specialize in helping you do all of those things. What is often the most difficult part of the invention process?

E X P O S U R E - M A G A Z I N E . C O M

Namely, focus, diligence and perseverance. If you’re not keeping it going, you can lose it. In inventing a product, all of it is a challenge, but I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s hard. It’s a terrain that you have to stay on and stay focused.

AN ACCOUNT OF DEVON STILL AND LEAH SARI’S

FACEOFF WITH CANCER by Justin Dukes V#3

Klambi trend for fashion

The free flowing utterances of how youth being wasted on the young is simply a bitter reminder of how so many have strayed from the pure, unadulterated essentials of this life. Fear, existing external to those essentials merely is garnered through the undefined explorations of the unknown. At just four years old, Leah Sari delved into her own personal contest against the perplexing epidemic cancer. With no assurance of what the future held for her, Sari’s saving grace was in the hope she possessed and the belief that the love shared with her father, former Cincinnati Bengals Defensive End, Devon Still would see her through.

Selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Still began his career with the Cincinnati Bengals with whom he would play two seasons. While productive for those years with the team, the Bengals ultimately decided to release Still from the team. While surprised by the news, Still soon made known his perspective of the predicament. “I can’t give football 100 percent right now. In the business aspect they want guys to solely focus on football, which is understandable. We are here to win this city a Super Bowl and right now I am not in a position where I can give football 100 percent of everything I have.”

Neuroblastoma, typically found in children, with 1000 occurrences every year is a form of cancer that originates in the adrenal gland. Some signs of neuroblastoma are abdominal pain, fevers, anemia, and constipation. The even more unfortunate side to neuroblastoma is the symptoms resemble those of numerous other childhood diseases, thus making it more difficult to diagnose, and often delays the treatment process. Subsequently, nearly 50% of all children diagnosed with neuroblastoma eventually succumb to the disease, which gives just one more grand reason to continue the efforts to finding an end to cancer.

Over the years, the NFL has implemented stricter policies to eliminate distractions, and yet Still’s faith, disguised as a distraction may have been the first falling domino in his daughter’s convalescence

The proverbial happy endings witnessed more so in cinema than reality still would come across as a premature depiction of Sari’s victory over cancer due to the large remainder of her journey she still has yet to enjoy. In 2015’s Thanksgiving, Sari was said to be in remission and to this day has had no recurrence of her former ailment. Her story is definitively one of triumph, all the sweeter that she can sit back and, read, and enjoy for herself. Until that day comes, her father, NFL player, Devon Still will more than likely be there to read it to her.

. “When I did it, I had no idea you weren’t allowed to do it,” Still said. “It was just something I wanted to do for my daughter to take her out on the field with me. I didn’t really get any backlash from the league.” said Still. Eye black, with “Leah Strong” inscribed was what initially made team officials aware of Still’s situation. The shock of a cancer diagnosis could at the very least be labeled a distraction. A distraction that a multi-million dollar franchise would want to wash its hands clean of. Yet in a pleasant turn of events, the Bengals assigned Still to the team’s practice squad just moments after finalizing his release to allow him to pay for his daughter’s cancer treatments. Having always viewed his daughter as a champion, the tears welling in Still’s eyes during his acceptance speech on behalf of his daughter at the 2015 EPSY awards were for the world now seeing what he always has. That night

Sari was the recipient of the Jimmy V Perseverance Award, for all the long days, the times she could have surrendered, but didn’t, for the jarring surgery and therapy sessions and for simply not looking for an excuse when she had every reason to do so. Unaware of the numerous lives she touched, the award was all the more fitting because of the absence of any self-serving ulterior motives with simply no room to exist because of the presence of Sari’s unfiltered, genuine, youthful exuberance. In what could be described as a literal walk of faith, Sari’s stroll down the Kids Rock! Fashion show runway reminded all in attendance that defeat is a mindset more than it is a destination. In a partially customized denim button down and jeans, Sari’s smile wouldn’t allow her father to lose hope for himself, being a free agent, still in search of work in the NFL. “She’s the toughest person I’ve ever met and she has the mindset that nothing will hold her down” said Still during the event. “Thanks for all the support and prayers!” read the caption of an Instagram post from Still the morning of receiving the news that his daughter’s cancer is now in remission. Months since, Sari has been living a full life, co-authoring her own children’s book “I Am Leah Strong” alongside her father, just freshly signed to a future reserve contract with the Houston Texans. Happy ending seems to be the call for this story, but with a combined age of close to 32 years, there seems to be plenty story left to tell.

On April 19, 2016 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin a very diverse audience packed the Cooley auditorium, eagerly awaiting Tavis Smiley. The Tavis Smiley Show is currently on tour in selected cities, positively impacting the lives of the community at large.

“After the show I had an opportunity to meet with Tavis

briefly, it was an honor and a sure pleasure to meet such a kind and confident man. After our introduction I asked Mr. Tavis for a photo-- holding my publication, “URBAN WALL STREET JOURNAL NEWSPAPER,” Tavis immediately said, “Yes.” As he opened the newspaper he held one end-- and suggested I hold the other. In just seconds, the woman taking the photo tried handing me a copy of Tavis’s new book titled “50 FOR YOUR FUTURE.” Tavis politely said, “No, this is about her.” As the woman placed the book back on the table, I couldn’t remember the last time someone unselfishly allowed me to share the stage with them. At that very moment, Tavis Smiley had given me something words will never explain- and no men could ever take away. Tavis if you’re reading thank you from the bottom of my heart- for standing in your truth.” Tam Lawrence, Publisher of Exposure Magazine The live taping of the “Tavis Smiley Show,” is a must attend. It’s an experience you’ll never forget.

Within less than one year I had a new job, wrote my first book “adjectives” and hosted my first women’s empowerment sessions, “Hats & Heels” The hardest struggle that I had to get over was accepting myself. Learning to love “the me” I was and not “the me” who others thought I should be. Techniques used: Prayer Vision Board Reading Journaling Staying Positive

There has been a time when I wanted to give up. I was in a very bad place it seemed like my world was crashing all around me. A failed relationship, lost my job, I had a miscarriage and to add insult to injury this all happen in less than a year. With all of this going on I was battling bouts of depression, loneliness and feelings of abandonment. All I can say is, but God. My prayer life increased and I found one person that was not judgmental that I could talk to that gave me words of encouragement I started to look for jobs and most of all changed my thoughts from victim to victor. I began to write in my journal more, read more positive literature to strengthen my mind. Then I developed a vision board and started to work on my vision. I also just kept repeating to myself “It will get better,” “There is more out there for you,” and “Just keep pushing.”

My life’s purpose is to encourage women to reach their fullest potential. They don’t have to stay in their situation and most of all their past does not define them. It lays the track down for them to move on towards their success. What are you most passionate about? Encouraging my students to reach their fullest potential and exposing them to new things so they know that they don’t have to stay where they are. Are you where you want to be right now? I’m not where I want to be, but I do feel I am well on my way.

never give up. Believe in yourself and most of all don’t let what others say about you change the person in you that you love the most. Tell me about your happiest moment in life? The happiest moment in my life would have to be when I received my undergrad degree. That feeling of accomplishment and to be the first one to graduate in my immediate family with a college degree. To have my parents and grandparents there was phenomenal. Oh yeah, I was 27 when I received my first degree. In short, you’re the artist.. “What do you see as your future design?” My future design would be a mosaic. There are a lot of pieces of different colors and shapes that have come together to make a beautiful design. Although, I have been shattered and thought to be worthless, I put myself back together again to reflect the different aspects of my life.

If you could revisit your 12 year old self .. What words of encouragement or advice would you give you? If I could revisit my 12 year old self I would tell her to

Let me say I’m not a VICTIM of domestic violence, but I am a SURVIVOR! Yes, me! When did this happen?

On September 17, 2007, I cowered inside of a closest while my ex-husbands hands gripped my neck taking the breath out of my body. This wasn’t his first violent attempt yet his worst. Therefore I didn’t know if I would make it out this situation. I prayed and my life was saved. When I walked away, I knew it was time to re-evaluate my life. Although I was successful by the world’s standards, I was broken on the inside. My heart and soul where shattered into millions of pieces from my past as a young girl having a fit body, three degrees and success wasn’t going to save me. I accepted the reality that if I was going to get better I was going to have to address the root of my abandonment, rejection and feelings of low self-worth as a result of my father’s leaving me at a young age. Was this an easy process?

Meet Laticia Jackson I’m a RECOVERING PERFECTIONIST and if you opened a dictionary and read the definition of a perfectionist that would describe me. I am your typical type a personality. I’m either all in or all out. I don’t know any other way. I wish I could tell you this has always worked to my benefit but it hasn’t. As a recovering perfectionist, I’m learning that giving a 100 percent of what I deem 100 percent is good enough and the word perfect is a lie! Yes a lie. Nothing in life will ever be perfect and I’m BECOMING okay with this reality. In my past, perfect haunted me like a ghost on Halloween and I allowed it to scare me repeatedly. Today, I tell perfection where to go, not the other way around! I’M A SURVIVOR OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE!

If I said yes, I’d be making an untruthful statement. My healing required transparency not only with myself, but with those who harmed me either physically or emotionally. This was a six year process and today I am not 100 percent healed, but 95 percent better. I just like you have things that linger from my past; however, I have identified them and work on them each day! Today I love the woman that I have become and becoming. My pain has taught me things joy never could and as a result of my past, I’m on a mission to help other women realize their self-worth! Did I tell you that I love to laugh? I love to laugh and I laugh a lot. Sometimes I find myself in my car laughing at the silliest things. Yes, people stare, but that’s okay with me. Let me also share with you that I value my family and friends more than other things in life.

I have stood on the Fitness Olympia Stage and other international fitness stages with some of the world’s top athletes; however, my favorite place to be is surrounded by friends and family who treasure me just for who I am with no titles attached! Oh, I am also the auntie of 4 amazingly beautiful nieces and two handsome nephews, might I say, extremely handsome nephews. How dare I not mention them! I don’t have kids of my own yet, but the love I have for these little, okay growing people who often forget to call their auntie is indescribable. I Have the Perfect Podmate! Yes, most people say that they want to find their soulmate, however, I have found my podmate. I call him my podmate because we are like two peas in a pod. He’s my best friend, my cheerleader and the one who knows how to handle my aggressive and at times demanding personality. He knows all of my flaws and loves me regardless of how complicated I can be. And might I say, I can be very complicated! The laughter we share is so irreplaceable! I love you MKS.

Mayor Deese speaks throughout the nation on a number of topics ranging from the mindset needed to get out (and stay out) of prison to starting a business and growing it to seven figures. His formula for overcoming adversity by taking personal responsibility has inspired many listeners including students, entrepreneurs and former inmates. Born in the late 50’s and reared during the turbulent unrest of the 60’s, Mayor Deese came of age during a time of sexual revelation, drugs and street life. He fell victim to a system that punished those who overindulged. In the 80’s, he spent his early adulthood in the dismal crypts of a cruel and oppressive prison system. Convicted for robbery, he was ironically sentenced to a system designed to rob a person of all future potential. In 1989 he was paroled into society with the clothes on his back and $30.00 in his pockets; facing mountains that can only be imagined. By applying the powerful lessons of faith, focus and perseverance that he outlines in his best-selling book “From Inmate To Mayor,” Franklin Deese has proven that there is no mountain too high to overcome.

WHO IS MAYOR FRANKLIN DEESE? Franklin D. Deese was just elected to serve his sixth term as Mayor to the town of Marshville, NC. He is the first and only African American elected to serve any Union County Municipality in that capacity in the County’s 150+ years history. He was first elected to the office of Mayor in 2005.

Mayor Deese serves on several different boards, as well as in many civic and community organizations on a local and state level. Mayor Deese is a two time recipient of the prestigious Governor’s Award. He was recognized as the Union County Minority Entrepreneur of the Year and was nominated for the WSOC Nine Who Care Award. He was chosen as the 2012 Citizen of the Year in Union County and is the recipient of the History Maker Award.

Today he is the only African American in the Nation to serve over 10 years in the prison system and then be elected mayor in the same city. Mayor Deese owns a personal income tax preparation business that he started over twenty years ago that now spans two states. He has five children, Shaunda (deceased), Kimberly, Tiffany, Franklin II, and Kamilah. Contact for Speaking Engagements Media / Press (414) 856.5330

without hitting some imaginary cap. I would not only create this opportunity with a clear vision of MY dream and MY goals in mind, but I would create an opportunity for others who would like to spread their wings and fly. And there it was. The development of FreshWerks! Mobile Inc. Where we serve food fit to feed royalty!

Have you ever felt like you just can’t do it anymore? Going to work day after day….after day; working hard and building the dreams of others while you’re still in the same space, year after year. I have! And I decided, “I just can’t do it anymore!” After working in Corporate America for what seems like FOREVER and trying relentlessly to make it to the top and time and time again getting knocked back down to square one. And for what? It’s not like I don’t work hard. It’s not like I am not educated. It’s not as though I am defiant or display insubordinate behaviors. I don’t have an attitude problem and I have proven myself time and time again, so why? Those are questions that you may never know the answers to. And so I decided, NO MORE! NO MORE! I felt like the only way to pick myself back up from this, one last time, is to create my own opportunities from here on out. An opportunity that will provide me the income that I WANT; and to be paid based on my own efforts

FreshWerks’ goal to serve only the best in food, choosing only quality ingredients and starting every menu item from scratch to ensure that we serve food free of chemicals, by-products, additives and preservatives. Providing high quality and great tasting foods, while keeping the prices reasonable for our patrons, has proven to be a great attribute and above average for the mobile food industry. Then came the development of a winning licensing program in which we provide our licensees the opportunity to become business owners with low start-up costs and a complete system and support services that will allow them to hit the ground running. I developed this program with those in mind that need an opportunity for entrepreneurship that will allow them to start making money right away, making it easier to transition from the employee to the entrepreneur.

I can go to my children’s school functions and not have to worry about how many vacation days I may have left. I don’t have to work 8 hour days unless I want to. I don’t have to pretend to be sick because, “today, I just don’t feel like it”. And yes, it is still work. But I can rest knowing that my pay matches my efforts. Nothing felt better than to put in my two week notice and say goodbye knowing that my life would never be the same. And gratefully so. And yes, I was afraid. Yes, I had the butterflies that fluttered at the unsure feelings of it all. And yes, you will feel this way too, but once you speak with one of our Startup Services Representatives, you will know that you can do this. YOU TOO CAN WRITE YOUR OWN DESTINY! With FreshWerks! The bus ride was quiet. Just the low rumble of the engine and the occasional rattles and squeaks of the windows and folding doors filled the empty air. There weren’t many people riding the bus. Everyone either had that brand new Camaro with leather interior and heated seats or walked to school in their new Converse with padded insoles. Ethan didn’t mind taking the city bus to school. He left the house early enough to catch the bus with little to no other passengers. He always sat in the far back of the bus, farthest away from the doors to avoid the small talk the elderly always seem to start. Tucked away against the far left window, he watched the cars pass by in a fuzzy line, all in a hurry to get to a shitty job for a shitty pay. All so they can put a microwave dinner on the table and avoid being evicted from their homes. Ethan dug in his pocket and pulled out his phone and checked the time; 6:26am. Thirty minutes early as usual, to avoid hallway traffic and the judgmental glances. He put his phone away when the bus turned the corner and headed toward a long building with “Abraham Lincoln High School” in big yellow letters across the wall next to the school doors. Ethan sighed and rolled his eyes. Why name a shitty school after a great man, he thought. This place doesn’t deserve that name. He pulled on the signal chord and the bus slowed to a stop. He climbed out of the bus and walked towards the doors, paying no attention to a small crowd of students hanging out on the schoolyard. He doesn’t even reach the doors when he felt the burn on the back of his neck; the burn of people staring at him, eyes that have nothing

better to do than to chase away the outcast. He grabbed the door handle and paused, staring at his hand. He took a deep breath, preparing himself for whatever the day had in store for him, and swung the door open. There was no one in the hallway by Ethan’s locker, which was never a good sign. Even if there were people around, it still wouldn’t stop what was coming. He knew it was inevitable. Ethan arrived at his locker and started twisting the combination when he heard a small pop to his left, and felt something chill splatter across his cheek and cling to his shirt. He slow-

ly lifted his hand from the combination and wiped the wet substance from his face. Ketchup; someone popped a packet of ketchup in his face. “Better clean yourself up before some fat kid mistakes you for a hot dog.” Out of the corner of his eye he saw a pair of black Vans high tops with two blobs of green and yellow on the side, and the only person in this school who wore those stupid things was Austin Reeds. Ethan first encountered Austin in fourth grade, when he would call Ethan “daddy’s punching bag” and put gum in his notebooks. Now, he would shove Ethan in the girls’ bathroom, squeeze a tube of paint in his hair in art class, and chant the occasional “kill yourself ” in study hall. Austin walked off with his pack of jocks following him. Ethan sighed, opening his locker and pulled out a box of tissues from the top shelf and wiped the ketchup. He was always prepared for the shit Austin would do to him. Band-aids, tissues, stain remover, and a wrist splint. Austin and his gang fractured Ethan’s wrist five months ago when they were beating him up, kicking him while he was down. Austin stomped on his wrist and cracked his radius, all because Ethan was science partners with his girlfriend. The tissue paper wasn’t getting all the ketchup out, so he walked over to the bathroom and tried to wash it out of his hair and shirt before the bell rang. Ethan was sitting in first hour physics, patiently waiting for the day to pass by him when Mr. Beuler

cleared his throat. “Good morning class, how was your weekend?” A few kids rambled on about how they tried curry for the first time or how they beat Dead Space III the other night. Ethan toned them out and pulled out his sketchbook from his backpack. He rested his head on his left hand as he flipped to the last page he was working on, He began touching up his drawing of a man that almost looked like Victor from Corpse Bride. In fact, all of Ethan’s drawings looked like they were drawn by Tim Burton. Ethan only caught bits and pieces of what Mr. Beuler was saying. “Now class”, “introduce”, “new student.” Ethan glanced up. Who

would want to come to this school, he thought when a girl with medium length apple red hair in a solid grey T-shirt, black skinny jeans and black sneakers walked into the classroom. Her cheeks pink with shyness; she stood by Mr. Beuler and whispered a “hello” to the class. Her amber eyes dancing across the faces of the class then back to her feet. Ethan looked back at his drawing and sighed. Poor girl, she’s gonna get ripped to shreds, he thought and went back touching up the drawing.

“Alright, you may have a seat by Mr. Summers. Ethan, raise your hand.” Ethan lifted his forearm, pencil in hand, then continued drawing. Mr. Beuler began his lecture about how light reflects from different curved mirrors as the girl slid into the desk to the right of Ethan. She put her messenger bag on her desk and dug out her book. She peaked over to Ethan and smiled, “Hi, I’m Audrey,” she whispered and held out her hand. Ethan lifted his eyes from his sketchbook and looked at her. He didn’t say a word, just looked at her, hoping she could catch the silent message in his gaze. If you start talking to me, bad things will happen. I’m doing you a favor. He held her gaze for a moment longer and turned his attention back to his drawing. In the corner of his eye, he saw her slowly lower her hand and turn her attention to the lecture. SHASTA AVERYHARDT 4TH AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN IN LPGA by Cedric Nettles When did it hit you that you were going to be in the history books as the 4th Black Woman in the LPGA? I was aware of my place in history upon earning my LPGA tour card in 2011. I embraced the acknowledgment but it wasn’t until a close family friend notified me that my name was engraved under the three extraordinary women before me (Althea Gibson, Renee Powell and Laree Sugg) at the World Golf Hall of Fame. That’s something that no one can take away from me whether I play competitively again or not. Describe a typical day of training and preparation that led you to the LPGA? Before I got my day started, I woke up and quickly looked at my dream board. It was something that kept my en-

ergy level up on days when I was exhausted. It was a healthy reminder to what I’m doing this all for.

That was an important element that people forget about, that I forgot about in the last year of playing. Routinely on an off week, I would work out with my designated program from my trainer and then I would head to the golf course. Some days I would just practice my short game and go play as many holes I could or I would choose to do range work with a combination of short game such as putting, chipping and pitching. Or could just be a day where I would just go play golf with no practice, which seemed to work a lot better before tournaments.

Who was your biggest influence growing up in life and your career?

was so many minority kids being exposed to the game. But I was fortunate enough to continue to Tiger Woods definitely have a college golf career influenced my continuation and a lot of my peers to play golf. He made golf didn’t have that opportulook “cool” if that makes nity due to how expensive sense. When I was young, is was to stay involved I attended the inner city with golf. It’s just that now schools where golf was not with social media being a common sport a person able to spread awareness like myself would play so so much easier, that it kids questioned why. Do you think about going back on tour? Yes! I absolutely do. I miss the competition, the grind, the travel, the interaction with fans…it took me a year to bring those hidden feelings back to surface. What is the coolest thing a child said to you about your accomplishments that helped you through rough times? Last summer actually…I remember the cutest comment from this adorable little girl that was shadowing me for the day. I was at Renee Powell’s yearly fundraiser and I was hitting tee shots for pro-am groups. There was some down time in between groups and while we were sitting in the cart talking about Barbie dolls & my pink putter, she said “You know what…I wanna be just like you when I grow up!” I smiled, gave her a hug but I had to walk away because I became very emotional. She made me realize how much I missed golf and why. She didn’t know the extent of my career, she just picked up on my energy and love for game. Kids are so intuitive! Any causes you are wanting attention on that you support?

Shasta Averyhardt what’s being taken care of and that it’s being handled properly. So not being sure if tournament expenses were going to be covered, had me over analyzing everything, even my game. Unfortunately, developing tendonitis my rookie year didn’t do me any justice. I couldn’t practice like I needed too and still trying to play tournament golf without preparing like I know I should was detrimental to my game.

I’m a definite advocate for the humane treatment of animals. I feel so strongly caring and respecting God’s creatures. However, another issue I’ve taken interest too is women uplifting and supporting one another. It seems as though, us women criticize one another for the most ridiculous reasons, none of the reasons to be valid, just insecurities and jealousy which is the root cause. We should just be in competition with ourselves and pushing to be the best version that WE can be and when we see other women being successful, that should motivate us in a positive way.

BEHIND THE SCENE WITH COMEDIAN & ACTOR-

JAYSON BERNARD by Tam Lawrence V#3

Klambi trend for fashion

EXP- Tell us a little about production, how long did you film? What was it like to play “Conner” in HALLOWEED and still produce a feature? JB- We filmed for about 30 days, which was VERY ambitious. But the film itself took about 10 months to complete 100%. Wish I could say we did it all…. but that’s INSANE and impossible I had LOTS of help, we had some amazing people on board, including our fearless leader Director LazReal Lison, who, we all wanted the same thing. To make a GREAT indie film, that didn’t LOOK or feel indie. I feel we accomplished that. I was burning the candle at both ends, but THANK GOD I don’t think it showed in my work. Hopefully. (Laughing)

Exp- You lived in Chicago for over 15 years, why did you decide to leave? JB- Well, I grew up there in a way. I was 22 when I moved there. I learned a lot, I felt it didn’t have much to offer me anymore, Professionally. I have family and close friends there, it will always be home. But LA seemed to have more of what I needed to advance. So with a heavy heart we made the move. EXP- Was the transition hard? JB- (Laughs) We didn’t get to think about it! As soon as we got here we had to start production on Halloweed. We partnered with Chicago production companies, and J&R (Jayson’s Production company) was the LA company on the ground. We had to find another company to help us here, it was foreign territory to all of us, THANK GOD for Summer House Pictures. They guided us here in LA. Godsend.

EXP- You started your own company and have produced all most all your own content as an actor, why? JB- I felt I was getting type casted and not getting in front of the right people because of it. I wanted to embrace being a “gay actor” but on my terms. I saw some great interviews with Hollywood Royalty like Drew Barrymore, Tom Cruz, Adam Sandler…They were ALL creating their own destiny in the business. Producing roles for themselves. I wanted to do the same. So my partner and I started J&R Productions and I started writing!! EXP- You write as well? What have you written? JB- I wrote a series “FAMILY VALUES” which the PILOT is on Amazon Studios. The rest of the series will be out hopefully this year…God its taking forever.. I also wrote a few shorts, Orphans of God, and a feature or two. The features are out getting coverage now,

I hope to start getting one of them to the big screen early 2018. But we will see, I’m kinda busy with two other films now. EXP- When can we expect to see some of your work? JB- HALLOWEED should be out this fall. We are not sure to what capacity as of yet. But it will be out there somewhere… Family Values, pilot is on Amazon Studios and Orphans of God is circulating in the festivals now. EXP- What’s next for you? JB- Im scheduled to do another role with Summer House Pictures this spring. Im SUPER excited about it.
