George Marks & Bob Swanson started Sierra Designs with the simple idea that backpacking and camping gear should be durable, functional, trouble-free, practical, efficient, and attractive. Taking their years of adventures out on the trail and putting it directly into the products they made, Sierra Designs pioneered many of the outdoor innovations taken for granted today.

PROTECTING THE PLANET

RECYCLED MATERIALS

Sierra Designs uses post-consumer and factory discards in our insulation and exterior fabrics to decrease manufacturing pollution and prevent waste from going into landfills.

ELIMINATING PFC/PFAS

In 2018, as we learned about Perfluorinated Chemicals and their health and environmental impacts, we began working to eliminate them from Sierra Designs’ sleeping bags, tents and apparel. Our materials are still treated with DWR, but we use a much friendlier C0 option.

RESPONSIBLY SOURCED DOWN

Our DriDown™ is purchased from RDS (Responsible Down Source) certified suppliers ensuring that the down and feathers come from animals that have not been subjected to any unnecessary harm.

This campaign addresses common barriers into outdoor recreation with a 1% donation of all web sales, donation of gear, education, and awareness-raising messaging. Temperature rating is of the utmost importance when selecting a bag/quilt. You want to know you’ll have a good experience out in the elements. To give you peace of mind, we’ve ISO tested all of our quilts. This ensures the most accurate comfort and limit ratings to give you confidence when choosing your sleeping quilt.

HIDEAWAY HOOD

Quilts with our hideaway hood give you the option of using a quilt like a blanket, or like a sleeping bag. When not in use, the hood simply seals up and is out of the way to allow use just like a blanket, but when needed, allows you to use the quilt like a mummy bag to keep your head warm.

DRIDOWN™

DriDown™ is natural down insulation treated with a molecular level polymer, creating a hydrophobic finish on individual down plumes. We use DriDown™ in our Nitro Quilts and the result is insulation that stays dry longer, lofts better, and dries faster than untreated down.

PAD LOCK

Backcountry sleep systems need to be able to change. Maybe you’re counting every ounce for a thru hike or maybe you’re craving a plush sleeping pad for your car camping trip. We’ve ditched the zipper and replaced it with an oversized comforter that mimics your bed at home. The comforter seals up with the rest of the bag and keeps heat in due to its oversized nature and integrated hand pockets. Just slip your hand in and pull everything nice a tight around you.

SELF-SEALING FOOT VENT

Sierra Designs sleeping bags feature our patented self-sealing foot vent, to make easy venting a breeze. The foot vent allows you to kick your feet out of the bag to cool off a bit, and seals up when not in use to retain heat on chilly nights.
