God’s corner b y G e r t r u d e M . Pu e l i c h e r

HAVE YOU EVER had a day when nothing you did pleased anyone—when the people closest to you seemed farthest away—when one problem piled on top of another until you felt as though life was exactly as Macbeth described it “…a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing?” The very next time you experience such a day, and your despair deepens as the hours go by, wrap the whole thing up in one bundle—people, circumstances, situations, plus your unhappiness and discouragement, and turn it right over to God as a problem seemingly too big for you to solve. Then shake yourself mentally and let go of any thinking connected with that bundle. Take a determined stand to leave it where you put it—with God. All you want is that God’s will be done. That in itself is a relaxing and peace-provoking thought. “Thy will, not mine, be done” takes you out of the realm of the mortal with its diverse opinions, its conflicting fears and doubts, into the realm of the spiritual. When you can say honestly and sincerely, “Thy will be done,” you may be certain that good must unfold because God’s will for us is only good. When he takes over any given situation, good must come to the surface. Evil in the guise of discord and discouragement must fall away if we are to believe the Biblical text that God is of purer eyes than to behold evil. Is it not amazing that we permit problems to assume momentous proportions, that we torture ourselves with worry or struggle through fear and hurt when all we need do is quickly, confidently and gratefully turn the whole thing over to God? He knows our needs before we ask Him. He is ready to help the second we reach out for Him. Our job is to do the reaching-out. Let’s not make such a desperate project of living. Why should we? Nothing can possibly separate any one of us from the ever present good that is God. Don’t we live and move and have our being in Him? Aren’t we assured that he who dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty? Isn’t abiding under the shadow of the Most High an incentive for us sto dwell in “the secret place”? What’s to prevent us from being there if we really long to be there? 30
