Tony Wendorf ~ Agent Profile
Outside of real estate, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children. I am very active in our faith community, and enjoy leading an active lifestyle. I enjoy traveling and love sports of all kind, specifically golf and football. My favorite golf course is the Legend at Brandybrook even though that 8th hole beats me up quite often! Love going to Bucks, Brewers, Packers and Badgers games with my wife and kids. My favorite sports memory is the Green Bay Packers winning the super bowl in the 1996/97 season with the Ole Gunslinger, Brett Favre. We like also dining out, especially the fish fries at the 5 O’clock Club in Pewaukee – it’s outstanding! 262-719-0676. twendorf@firstweber.com

BRIMMING WITH BEACHES in the midst of a clear blue ocean, Madeira is a gorgeous archipelago that offers an exciting spot for a getaway for the weekend or a full week’s vacation. Lots of water sports are available for those individuals who love the water including sailing, jet skiing, parasailing, and jet skiing. Funchal Marina is an excellent spot to stop by for the rentals needed to enjoy these sports. While the coastline of Madeira offers an opportunity to tread warm, sandy shores, a cruise that takes one out to the sea along the coast of the island is an exciting day’s adventure. While on the cruise, visitors can fish, sunbathe, and even swim. Plus, there’s a chance to spot dolphins or whales for an exciting photographic opportunity. Although the sea is calm on many days, the opportunity for surfing is one that beckons to more adventurous individuals. Surfing is one of the newest activities on the island, so it’s a great time to get in on the fun. The coastline along Paul do Mar, Ponta Pequena, and Jardim do Mar offers great conditions for riding the waves. All of these locations are conveniently located near each other.

The island features lush, semi-tropical foliage and several botanical gardens. Volcanic peaks add to the beauty of Madeira as they rise up almost 2 meters into the sky, dropping back sharply into the ocean. The port of Funchal is the main town on the island. From this location, visitors can travel to other popular spots along the coastline. Accommodations and Swimming Pools Hotel accommodations provide a varied assortment of options, offering something for every kind of taste from budget to expensive to cosmopolitan to rural to historical and more. For those guests who enjoy a touch of history with their vacations, the Quinta das Vinhas offers a nice place to stay among gorgeous vineyards. Other options include the Avenue Park apartments, the Quinta Freitas, and the Casa do Papagaio.

Although most of the hotels on the island feature swimming pools, other spots are available for swimming as well. In fact, no one should leave Madeira without at least visiting the natural swimming pools at Porto Moniz. These pools have been carefully carved right out of the rock. Plus, the salt water swimming pool complex of Lido is quite popular among visitors. Climate Madeira’s climate is so warm and mild that it draws tourists and locals to it in the hundreds. The summers here are warm and comfortable- perfect weather for outdoor activities. Plus, the winters are pleasantly mild, also offering a reason behind this island’s popularity. As the warm waters of the Gulf Stream help to give Madeira its lovely weather, the sea temperature is not much warmer than the temperature of the air. The month of March provides the coolest waters as well as the coolest temperatures. As with most geographic locations, the weather is variable from any given day to another with moderate rainfall occurring throughout the year. n E X C L U S I V E LY Y O U R S

BY TURNING TO nature-inspired designs, you can create a sense of comfort and relaxation. A hybrid color, like Valspar’s 2024 Color of the Year, Renew Blue, is gentle and airy with a touch of blue to set a restful and meditative mood. The grayed sea green inspired by fleeting things such as fog, mist, clouds and glacier lakes - is a seasonless and versatile hue that features a mid-tone blue with warm undertones and can be used in outdoor living spaces and fourseason rooms alike. “This mid-tone shade has become popular for wellness environments over the years due to its low saturation level, which evokes a sense of rest and calm,” said Sue Kim, Valspar’s director of color marketing. “The harmonious green and blue open the possibility for outdoor applications, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior.” To help elevate the mood in your home, consider implementing Renew Blue into one of these popular design trends that can update the look of nearly any of your indoor or outdoor spaces.

Coastal Coastal looks are timeless designs that have remained relevant for years because of their positive correlation to calming beach locations. Perfect for outdoor spaces like the backyard, you can implement a more curated and personal take on the trend by shifting from “typical” coastal design that pairs beachy hues with natural textures like rope, driftwood and wicker to something more classic and natural like the Cape Cod variation by working in some nautical touches like anchors, oars or seashells. Modern Farmhouse In the entryway, using beautiful and functional decor, such as unique ceramics and handwoven textiles, helps usher in a modern rustic style. By using timeless tones and accents, as well as layering heritage art, you can create visual mystery while elevating the ordinary to make your home feel warm and welcoming to guests from the moment they walk through the door. Nordic Comfort Modern Traditional is a style that came together over time, and the Hygge look is a refined take. It pulls elementary cues from traditional farmhouse style but has shakerinspired elements mixed in and is done with a slightly modern twist. It can make a larger space like the kitchen feel welcoming, open, carefully curated and warm. Modern Boho Boho is a nature-loving and free-spirited style connected to earthy and botanical elements. From handmade decor to vintage metallic finishes, this style reimagines the past and elevates everyday spaces like bathrooms into personal retreats designed with wellness in mind. Pastel Wabi-Sabi Leaning into the modern sentiment of “less is more,” this style reflects a naturally minimalist design aesthetic and showcases color coordination with mood-boosting hues and joyful color. Perfect for nurseries and other spaces that should be bright and welcoming, pieces with pared-back, welcoming shapes and silhouettes that allow quality natural materials to shine are perfect for decorating the room. Highly Rated Diets That Support
HEART HEALTH n n n
22
EATING HEALTHY is an important goal for people looking to maintain or improve their physical health, particularly as it relates to the heart. With often conflicting information available online and via social media, it may be difficult or downright confusing to find the eating plan for you. To help navigate the maze of information - and misinformation experts assessed and scored the heart healthiness of several popular diets. Each diet was evaluated against the American Heart Association’s guidance for a heart-healthy eating pattern, which emphasizes eating a variety of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, lean proteins (including fish, low- or non-fat dairy and plant proteins), non-tropical plant oils and minimally processed foods; avoiding added sugars, salt and alcohol; and sticking to
this guidance even when you’re eating away from home. Diets received a rating between 0-100 and were ranked in tiers, with the resulting analysis published as an American Heart Association scientific statement in the journal “Circulation.” “If implemented as intended, the top-tier dietary patterns align best with key features of heart-healthy eating and may be adapted to respect cultural practices, food preferences and budgets to enable people to eat this way for the long term,” said Christopher D. Gardner, Ph.D., FAHA, chair of the scientific statement writing committee and the Rehnborg Farquhar Professor of Medicine at Stanford University. Tier 1: Highest-Rated Eating Plans (scores higher than 85) The four patterns with the highest ratings align best with heart-healthy

Heart Health n n n guidance, are flexible and provide an array of healthy foods to choose from. n DASH - With a perfect score by meeting all guidance, an eating pattern similar to the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension plan emphasizes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, low-fat dairy, lean meats, poultry, fish and non-tropical oils. Nordic and Baltic diets are also examples of this eating pattern, which is low in salt, added sugar, alcohol, tropical oils and processed foods. n Mediterranean - This pattern limits dairy while emphasizing fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, fatty fish and extra-virgin olive oil. Because it includes moderate alcohol drinking, rather than avoiding or limiting consumption, it scored a few points lower than DASH. n Vegetarian/Pescatarian - A plant-based eating pattern that includes fish. n Vegetarian/Ovo/Lacto - Plant-based eating patterns that include eggs (ovovegetarian), dairy (lacto-vegetarian) or both (ovo-lacto vegetarian). Tier 2: Vegan and Low-Fat Diets (scores 75-85) These eating patterns mostly align with heart-healthy criteria and emphasize important food groups but fell short of reaching the top tier due to limitations. n Vegan - A plant-based eating pattern that includes no animal products. Restrictions in this plan may make it more difficult to follow long term or when dining out. Following a vegan eating pattern increases the risk of some nutrient deficiencies, which may be overcome by supplements or fortified foods. n Low Fat - A diet that limits fat intake to less than 30% of total calories, including the volumetrics eating plan and therapeutic lifestyle change plan. These types of plans often treat all fats equally while the American Heart Association’s guidance suggests replacing saturated fats with healthier fats such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Those who follow low-fat diets may overconsume less healthy sources of carbohydrates, such as added sugars and refined grains. However, these factors may be overcome with proper counseling and education from a health professional. CREATING A BETTER
Wedding Registry For some couples, the idea of registering for wedding gifts is an exciting way to start planning for the home they’ll be sharing as newlyweds. For others, the registry is just one more chore to check off the wedding to-do list. n n n
REGARDLESS OF WHERE you fall on the loveit-or-hate-it spectrum, most experts agree a registry is a good idea, especially for couples who will be setting up a home together for the first time. Keep these tips and etiquette guidelines in mind to get the most out of your registry. Take inventory of what you have and what you need. For couples who’ve lived alone or together, the registry may be a way to fill in gaps for necessities neither of you already have. It’s also a good way to begin upgrading the less expensive kitchen items and furnishings you had as college students or singles. Make a list of your needs and wants so you don’t forget any essentials. If you’re still in doubt, request a checklist from the store where you’ll be registering so you can do some planning. Register for things at a wide range of price points. The whole purpose of a registry is to make it easy for your guests to get you things you’ll like and need. Part of making it easy is recognizing your guests have diverse financial situations. While it’s customary to gift the bride and groom, not everyone can afford an extravagant gift, especially if they’ve spent money on travel and attire to attend. While it’s a good idea to offer modest options,

don’t shy away from bigger ticket items that a small group might chip in on together. Keep access in mind when you choose where to register. Avoid stores that are local or regional if you have many guests who live out of the area. Also avoid the temptation to choose online only options, as some guests will prefer to see what they’re buying. Aim for a mix of large national stores and online retailers. Plan to block off at least a few hours for an in-person registry. It will take time to get everything set up. Traveling through the store, debating options and making your selections could take longer than expected. Also be sure to ask how you can add to or edit your registry after your initial visit. Get your partner involved. There are bound to be some parts of the registry your partner may not care about, but asking for input and making decisions together lets you both share in the excitement. Focus on things you’ll each find useful as you settle into your new home. For example, the person who will be responsible for taking out the trash should get to pick the new kitchen trash can. HAVE YOU ever looked back in the late evening on your day’s beginning? Dispirited, struggling with a sense of discouragement and frustration, have you wondered why the entire day seemed so purposeless, so disappointing and unrewarding? Haven’t you often said to yourself as you felt too listless even to get ready for what should be a night’s rest: “What is the use of it all? What have I accomplished? Is any of this worthwhile?” Henry Ward Beecher, a nineteenth century clergyman and the father, incidentally, of Harriet Beecher Stowe, stated a profound truth that may explain why so often our days seem without purpose. He said, “The first hour of the morning is the rudder of the day.” What could he have meant? Probably what the poet meant who wrote the very simple lines: Begin the day with God, He is thy sun and day, He is the radiance of thy dawn. To Him address thy lay. Take thy first walk with God, Let Him go forth with thee, As one reads today’s news captions, as one listens to news commentators, one realizes the time has come for every thinking person to return to the simple faith of this nation’s founding fathers. Some of our finest statesmen, and there was a time when America had many statesmen worthy of the name, began the day with their families by reading aloud a Psalm. There was a day when families, gathered around a breakfast or dinner table, not a snack bar, took time to bow their heads in a brief prayer of thankfulness for God’s grace. There was a time, as a result of this kind of day’s beginning, that children were not rushed off to school in a flurry of dire admonitions by mothers who were themselves in a flurry because late rising had resulted in late breakfasts, or none at all, and rising tempers. Time and speed have been ruthless enemies to the spiritual progress of our nation. Families are the backbone of a nation. Families too busy to take out time for God are the first link in a nation’s downfall. Despite the cynics, and they are an unhappy, unimportant segment of our population regardless of what contributions they believe they make to the world of letters or science, let us work individually until our efforts evolve nationally by heeding Beecher’s words. “The first hour of the morning is the rudder of the day.” n E X C L U S I V E LY Y O U R S
