Life in the Garden b y Ty l e r C u r t i s How does your garden grow? This question, a line from a child’s nursery rhyme, could be posed to anyone who tends a garden– and each answer would be unique. Gardening is a favorite hobby for many people and often requires meticulous designing and planning. To garden successfully, one must be patient and nurturing, and open to learning throughout the process.

A Master Gardener is someone who is trained in the science and art of gardening. These individuals pass on the information they learned during their training, as volunteers who advise and educate the public on gardening and horticulture. According to the 2009 Extension Master Gardener Survey, there are nearly 95,000 active Extension Master Gardeners in the United States, who provide approximately 5,000,000 volunteer service hours per year to their communities. Once volunteers are accepted into a

Last year, I submitted a proposal to build a large garden (60 X 30 foot plot) in the back of the church for the purpose of growing organic food to donate to a food bank the church supports. My proposal was accepted and I received a grant of $1,000. With a crew of 10 volunteers, including my family, we broke ground on May 24, 2015. We built eight raised beds and plowed the rest of the land. By early July, we started harvesting 10-30 pounds a week through the end of October. A bountiful success. the ultimate in private serenity by Ellen Huef fner

Upscale serene living was the end result in mind when this stunning home was built just 8-years ago by Architectural Homes By Anders/ Dale Kolbeck of Oconomowoc. Strategically tucked within an ultra-lush 5+ acres in Dousman, the homeowners wanted privacy away from neighborhood distractions as they raised their family. At night the clear sky is filled with a light show of stars which makes it hard to believe you’re just a short drive away from the city. As you proceed along the winding driveway that approaches the home, the driveway gives the illusion of having been carved into the surroundings while not to disturb nature. The woods seem to go on forever until the house makes its welcoming appearance.

The impeccably landscaped yard provides the perfect complement to the simplicity of the extra-large double-door front entrance. Even the doorbell seems to be perfectly placed to not detract from the grandeur. The main foyer welcomes you with Brazilian Cherry hardwood floors that grace each room throughout the house. To the left is the music room where the home’s occupants have privacy to play the piano or practice their instruments with seclusion away from the main part of the home. Cherry built-in shelving was strategically designed to be consistent throughout the home as well. Both from the style of the shelving, to the Cherry hardwood itself, gives the feeling of classic uniformity. The rich wall color complements the generously sized, upscale windows. Through the foyer a formal dining room awaits. The modern chandelier centered over the equally modern dining table provides the perfect setting to entertain guests or intimate family dinner. The extra wide door archway gives a comforting feel of spaciousness that carries throughout the home. J ULY 2 0 1 6

God’scorner by Ger trude M. Puelicher

Is this our America? Is this the land of the free and the home of the brave? Is it to this end that our forefathers braved unknown dangers, struggled and fought to establish a nation that was ultimately to become a melting pot for all the peoples of the earth? Has the melting pot finally boiled over, disintegrated in the heart of its own inner conflict? Have we forgotten that a nation divided against itself must fall of the weight of its own discords? Are violence and bloodshed to become a part of the American scene? Has our high standard of living made of us such crass materialists that we actually believe shooting and looting, crime and violence must be an acceptable part of our daily lives? Have we lost our reason in the flouting of law, and disorder as a way of life? There is one who said, “I will overturn, overturn, overturn it: And it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is: And I will give it him,” Ezekiel 21:27. There is a Presence within each of us, a Presence that constitutes the only Power we are. And that Presence is neither white nor black, rich nor poor, sick nor well. That Presence is that which we really are, only we must become aware of it, we must recognize it, we must turn to it, constantly and continuously. That Presence within us constitutes the only real Power that exists anywhere in the universe, anywhere in this beloved country of ours—not material or temporal power, but spiritual Power enduring unto eternity. Let each one of us learn to turn to that Presence within himself and find within himself, within his own being, the very best there is of himself. Then, and then only can we work with compassionate wisdom at the problems that face us as a nation. Then, and then only will we see our neighbor for what he really is, he who possesses within himself that same Presence and Power that is within us. Therein lies the key to harmony and understanding within families, neighborhoods, nations. Therein lies the only answer to peaceful co-existence. 30
