“It hardly seems like four years have gone by…”

As far as anniversaries go, four years may not seem like much of a milestone, but when you open in the wake of a worldwide pandemic every day the doors stay open is reason to celebrate.

“It hasn’t always been easy, but the challenge has been worth it. I’ve watched my staff grow from high school freshmen, all the way to college. Some have moved on to their chosen careers, others are still coming home during vacations to make a few bucks. It’s a source of pride and bittersweet at the same time.

We’ve had the same growing pains with our product line. Over the years, we learned what worked, what was a total ‘flop’ and what just needed a little tweaking. We added gelato over the summer months, both in the shop and as a traveling ‘road show’ at festivals and private events. It has been, and still is, a work in progress.

In the end, it all comes down to the community. They are what keep us strong. Without support from local businesses, schools, and neighbors, we couldn’t have come this far. They are a big reason why we keep doing this, and they are how we keep going strong”.

DO YOU REALIZE what today’s world needs? It needs to be loved. Consider for a moment: Have the problems of a troubled boy or girl ever been solved by condemnation, nagging, intolerance, misunderstanding, even hate? There is only one universal solvent, and it applies to nations as well as to humans. That solvent is love. Today’s world is in need of universal love. It is bogged down under the weight of condemnation leveled at it in all areas. A psychological morass has developed from which there will be no recourse until the peoples of the world learn once again to love.

Have you ever taken time to analyse love? It is smooth flowing oil that asks nothing other than to be accepted. It calms taut nerves. It soothes troubled spirits. It acts as a tranquillizer. It asks for unity and invokes forgiveness. Love is the most powerful solvent in the universe for a very simple reason: Love is God, and God is love.

Are we failing to realize that only as we pour forth love in our daily experiences are we penetrating the mist that would obscure the good that surrounds us? May it not be that God’s purpose for us is to lessen the world’s woes by the example we set and the influence we exert in our daily lives? How often do we hear someone moan, “If only I knew what God’s purpose is for me!” Might it not be well to assume that obedience to the Nazarene carpenter’s philosophy is an initial step toward God’s purpose?

The love poured forth by the Christ carried unmeasured healing. Nor was it restricted to the period in which he lived. That same love lies within each one of us. Haven’t we been assured that the kingdom of God is within us? Must not then God’s love pour out from us and through us? Does it not possess the same healing qualities with which it was originally imbued? Is it not comforting to know that we, too, are in full possession of the Christ power?

Condemnation is a negative approach to the solution of any problem. The Apostle Paul emphasized the importance of using love in our daily lives. He said, “By love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word—thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Again he speaks of love as the fruit of the spirit linking it with joy, peace, goodness, faith.

Love is the positive approach and always it heals. Rest in the message of 1 John 4: “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God and knoweth God”—“God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God, in him.”

Someone commented recently, “All that will save the world is to have Jesus Christ return and heal it.” If each one of us will strive to develop a Christ consciousness, the healing power we can send forth will be great enough not only to save the world, but to send it on its way rejoicing. The Nazarene carpenter’s mission was to become involved. How about your involvement, and mine? n
