Though a few musicians are native Milwaukeeans, the majority come from out of state, with several originally from other countries. in historic tax credits MSO received in conjunction with the acquisition of the Warner Grand Theatre, have allowed for the realization of this dream. The MSO has raised over $109 million so far toward its campaign goal of $139 million. “Of those funds, a portion is going to our endowment and the rest to the building,” Kogler explained. Donations are funding the MSO’s move to its new space, a vital step in the health and growth of this community organization. “It was determined that one of the biggest barriers to the Milwaukee Symphony [Orchestra] reaching financial stability was not owning our own performance venue. We are the only major American orchestra that does not control its own space and schedule,” Kogler said. The Warner Grand Theatre, to be renamed the Milwaukee Symphony Center, is slated for a series of renovations by CD Smith which will culminate in an anticipated opening in fall of 2020. During the course of this full restoration, a facility will be built adjacent to the existing concert space, backstage space will be created by moving a wall 35 feet, and

bathroom facilities will be updated and enhanced. “The new hall will have modern amenities with a 1930s feel,” Kogler said. “From bars on every level to upgraded bathroom facilities, our patrons will have a 21st century experience in a historic building.” Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra musicians, supporters, and patrons are all excited about the move to the Milwaukee Symphony Center. The new space boasts seating for 1,750 people, fantastic acoustics, a rich history, and aesthetic beauty. Along with these, plentiful well-lit and accessible parking options and onsite catering will further enhance patrons’ experience of the new concert space. And, in keeping with the MSO community involvement, the new Milwaukee Symphony Center will feature additional spaces for educational and outreach programs and collaboration with the community. complement or contrast, and if it contrasts, ensure that’s the look you’re truly going for. Completing the Design Another often-overlooked consideration is how you’ll complete the room once the cabinetry is installed. Think about the rest of the woodwork, other finishes like backsplash and flooring, and dining furniture in the space. Also consider your appliances and any decorative items you may wish to add. Ensure the color you’re considering will fit with the other elements. If it doesn’t, you may have to consider upgrading those features to achieve a cohesive look. If you’re still having trouble narrowing down your selection, many designers recommend selecting an inspiration piece and designing the rest of the room, including the cabinetry, to complement it.

Food lovers should head for the Mercat de la Boqueria, just off La Rambla, a place that would make anyone’s mouth water. La Boqueria market is a huge indoor food hall where you can find every Spanish and Mediterranean delight there is to find. For those who like their food, the range on offer is truly staggering. Remember to take your wallet though, as there’s no way you’ll want to leave without a few bags full. Alternatively, if cooking your own doesn’t appeal, you’ll have no problem finding good places to eat and drink. Look for tapas bars where you can sample many different Spanish or Catalan specialities but be careful on La Rambla if you’re looking for a restaurant. The street is very busy all day every day and getting a table can be a challenge, especially in the early afternoon, so think ahead.
