At Home with Country Life... Inspiring ways to bring country style into your home.
Splendor of Fall Moving into Autumn doesn’t mean the end of color. Bring the brilliant colors of the season into your home with an arrangement popping with purples, greens, oranges and golds. Designer Sue Morgan has been creating floral art for over 25 years. Many of Sue’s creations are always available at Monches Farm throughout the seasons. She also creates custom pieces using your design colors and reflecting your personal style. Call her at Monches Farm at 262-966-2787. To create this piece, Sue used: (all florals & greens are everlasting) Metal watering can 2 blocks of dried floral foam. Handful of moss. 4 stems of dark blue Larkspur. 5 Sunflowers of varying sizes. 5 rust colored Zinnias. 5 stems of Salal leaves. 1 bunch Bittersweet. 1 bunch of Dusty Miller. 1 bunch of trailing rust leaves. 2 bunches of varying greens including Ferns. Cut foam to fit container. Glue foam in container. n Glue moss around the foam. n Glue Larkspur into the foam block to start shaping the arrangement. n Next bend the Sunflower stems and add to arrangement. n Secure the Zinnias, Salal, and Bittersweet, angling some outward and some upward to define the arrangement outline. n Use Dusty Miller, trailing leaves and varying greens to gently fill in blank spaces. n n n

Heat oven to 350 F. Grease 9-by-13inch pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place diced apples in large mixing bowl. Add apple butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla and brown sugar. Mix until apples are evenly coated. Place one pie crust in bottom of greased pan. Slowly stretch out crust to cover pan’s bottom. Cut some edges off, if necessary. Spread apple filling evenly over crust. With rolling pin, roll second crust to make it same size as pan. Place second crust on top of apple pie filling and tuck down edges to cover. To make topping: In small bowl, whisk egg white until foamy and brush over crust. In another bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon, and sprinkle evenly over crust. Bake 50-60 minutes until crust is golden brown. Remove from oven and cool slightly before cutting. To make glaze: In small bowl, combine powdered sugar, milk and remaining vanilla, and whisk until smooth. Drizzle over cooled bars and serve. n
