THE
Zinn’s SQUARE ON
How long have you been in this business at this location.
Zinn’s On The Square opened April 15, 2022! But we have been dreaming about this for years and years!
How did your business get started or how were you inspired to open your business?
I was a vendor at the original Mercantile in East Troy. When you walk in the shop it’s just so warm and incredibly inviting! I absolutely loved being a vendor there!! When the original owners decided to close the doors, my heart sank! I knew I had an opportunity of a lifetime to take over the space. It was at that point in March of 2022 that Zinn’s On The Square was born!
Has your business always been in the present location?
Zinn’s On The Square has always been at our current location, 2087 Division St. EastTroy, WI. We are in the Zinns building built back in 1856!
Connected by an internal hallway to the East Troy House, Wisconsin’s oldest Inn & Tavern! I also own Wiki Woolz & Wares, a custom apparel company. How many employees/family members work with you?
We don’t have any employees we have awesome group of family, vendors, friends that help keep the shop open six days a week. We are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 11 to 5, Thursdays and Fridays 11 to 7, and Saturdays and Sundays 11 to 4!
What is the primary focus of your business?
Our primary focus is to have an incredible space where local artisan businesses and their wares be housed under one roof! At this current time we have 49 local artists featured in our shop. We feature works from local potters, painters, fiber artists, wood workers, seamstresses, and more! You can find hand made wood signs, jewelry, bath & body, pottery, candles, home decor, pet products, Childrens items, original paintings, wood items, rocks & gems, apparel, stitched items, and so much more! We also have an amazing selection of nostalgic-old fashion candy! It’s so much fun to hear everyone tell stories of what they used to buy when they were younger!
What do you love most about your industry?
I absolutely love the one on one connection we get to have with our customers and our vendors! Whether it’s in our brick and mortar in East Troy or at an art show or the Wisconsin State Fair, the connection we get to make is what drives my passion! The bond we make with customers turns them into great friends and then to family.
What are some of the common myths you come across in your business?
Two of them come to mind. The first one would be running your own business is easy! I guarantee you will never work as hard doing any other job compared to running your own business but I wouldn’t change a thing! To have that key in your hand to your own brick and mortar is the most satisfying feeling in the world!! And the second would be you are too old to start your own business! There are lots of years of blood sweat and tears behind running this business! You never want to have any regrets! If it is your passion to become an entrepreneur/business owner go after that dream, don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t! Hustle Hard–Stay Humble! What message would you like to share most with people?
Shop Small Shop Local! Watch entrepreneurs do a happy dance when they make a sale! Now more than ever it’s important to support local small businesses! Keep your dollars in your community!
What would you like customers to most know about your business?
We want everyone to know that we are a Makers Market full of locally made and source products. A place where local artisans can sell their wares. Many of our items are one of a kind but most of our artisans will do custom special orders!
What is the biggest compliment customers give you?
How excited they feel when they walk in the door and see our displays and products. That they love the products we have in the shop. Our shop has such a warm feel when

you step inside! Customers are always telling us how wonderful it smells in the shop!! We say it’s a secret!! Really it’s a combination of all the candles and bath and body products! What are you most grateful for?
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with incredible friends and amazing local artists and businesses to come together to create this magical space we call Zinn’s On The Square! I am also grateful that we have this opportunity to be able to live my dream!
Who and what can you credit your success?
Hard work/long hours/sleepless nights/ crushing goals/never afraid to ask for help/ always admit when you are wrong/hustle hard/keep eyes forward and stay in your lane! What are you most proud of?
I’m so proud of where we are today with opening Zinn’s On The Square! I am humbled as I look back to the very beginning of my career as a maker/entrepreneur and recognize and give credit to amazing family members who are my mentors for life!
What are some of the biggest challenges?
I think one of the biggest challenges is just having enough time in the day to do everything that the business requires, but also to have time for all of the things we need to do to grow the business! Also challenging is Managing/creating for Wiki Woolz & Wares, my other hustle that keeps me so very busy! The bonus is that Wiki Woolz & Wares provides me the opportunity to have Zinn’s.
What important events does your business hold or sponsor?
We have taken part in the Vintage Shop Hop which is held twice a year. Zinn’s takes part in any of the events that are held on the Square with the Village of East Troy! These Holiday events should be spectacular; Winter Wine Walk, December 9th and East Troy Lights, December 3rd thru the 31st.
Is there anything else you would like to share about your shop?
I want everyone to know that Zinn’s On The Square is an awesome hidden gem in East Troy! Every sale made at Zinn’s ‘s supports a local artisans in business and now more than ever we all need to Shop Local/Shop Small! Follow us on Facebook at Zinn’s On The Square to keep up with all that is happening.

Chic T ique
How long have you been in business?
Chic Tique was born in 2012 and started in an old grainy on our home property. I was an avid antique collector and hunter and decided I couldn’t keep everything for myself. The old grainy was just sitting there unused for quite some time and we decided to gut it out and transform it into my first store and painting gallery.
At the grainy I would host pop up sales and I would bring in people from all over the state. I also painted furniture and cabinets for many years in the painting studio which was a big part of the business. After Covid I realized it was time to do what I have always wanted to do and that was to open up a store in a historic downtown setting. I had my eyes set on Ripon for over many years because of the historic buildings and the quaint downtown atmosphere.
What changes have you seen over the years open?
Changes that I see are the buying trends. When I first started I was selling about 75% vintage and now it’s flipped the other way around. I still love and enjoy antiques and vintage
Chic Tique
items so I mix and incorporate them into my displays. I also have seen an uptick on customers supporting small boutique stores after Covid.
What do you most Love about your Industry?
My first love is decorating and design. In graduated from college with a BFA in design. I love helping my customers create beautiful spaces in their homes.
What are some of the common myths you come across in your business?
That it’s easy and an always fun job. There are many different sides to the business. We work long hours, nights and weekends to make everything perfect for when the customer walks through the front door.
What message would you most like to share with people?
At Chic Tique we strive to be a store for just about anyone. We offer a eclectic mix of merchandise that appeals to many ages and buyers, home decor, gifts and boutique items.
What is the biggest compliment customers give you?
Customers on a daily basis tell us how beautifully displayed and put together our store is and that it’s affordable and practical for their everyday buying needs. Weather it’s a new look for their home or a new clothing piece, handbag, or jewelry item. Our motto is also to bring happiness to our customers with a cheery positive vibe.
What are you most proud of?
I am extremely proud of staring my business from the ground up and not giving up along the way. I have always pushed forward and if things don’t go as planed I find ways to make Chic Tique even better. Also another thing that I’m extremely proud of is having my three daughters be part of the business along the way. They are very much a part of every step and process from buying, pricing, designing, customer service and modeling. My ultimate goal is to pass this business down to one of them someday.
How many employees/Family work with you?
My three daughters What are you most grateful for?
I am extremely blessed to work with such amazing customers and be part of a beautiful forward thinking historic downtown. Also I’m great I’ll for an understand family, as they know my schedule isn’t always convenient but support me and understand what it takes to make my dream a reality.
Who/what can you credit your success?
I believe success starts within but having external cheerleaders along the way makes it that much easier. I have a huge support system. I couldn’t make this all work without my family, friends and loyal customers that keep coming back week after. ~

Ebert’s Greenhouse Village
How long have you been in this business at this location?
My dad, Milton Ebert, started a vegetable garden in 1975, and from that simple idea, Ebert’s Greenhouse Village came into existence and grew into what it is today.
How did you get started/inspired to open your business?
My dad was inspired to start the vegetable garden because he wanted to get back to working the land he had. He had previously had a dairy farm at this location, but sold the cows in 1959 and went to work at a factory. My brother Ron and I joined the business when we were younger in 1991, and we became owner/partners of Ebert’s Greenhouse Village. We both really loved working with flowers!
Has your business always been in the present location?
Yes, the business has always been located here in Ixonia, Wisconsin from it’s inception in 1975. Our entire family grew up on the family farm.
How many employees/family members work with you?
Myself, my wife, daughter, and future son-in-law all work at Ebert’s, along with my cousin David, who works full-time as controller.
What is the Primary focus of your business?
Our primary focus is to be one if the finest garden centers in the state of Wisconsin. Our priority is growing exceptional flowers, plants and hanging baskets. We carry everything you would need to be a successful gardener. We also have a fall festival that starts in late September and runs through the end of October with hayrides, field trips, mums, pumpkins
caramel apple and other bakery treats as well as a Christmas market with Christmas trees, wreaths and greens, beautiful poinsettias, and holiday workshops. Santa comes to visit with the children too! No matter the time of year, we really want everyone to have an outstanding experience.
What do you love most about your industry?
The people are really special in this industry. We all work very hard, and a love for plants is within all of us. Personally, I really enjoy working outside when the weather is nice. We are fortunate to witness God’s beautiful creation every day! What are some of the common myths you come across in your business?
Many people think we have the winters off, but we work all year round to maintain a quality business. Also, many people think we bring in most of our flowers, but we do grow 95% of our flowers, baskets, perennials and vegetable plants here in our greenhouses. What message would you like most to share with people?
Our mission statement says it all, “Our guests are special and will receive the finest flowers, plants, garden accents and service. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve you, and are blessed to be able to share God’s creation with you!”
What would you like customers to most know about your business?
We have evolved throughout the past 45 years from a small vegetable garden to a full line garden center. We are known for our large selection of flowers, hanging baskets and plants all displayed in a “Village” setting, and for being a Christian business. God’s beautiful creation is on display every day! What is the biggest compliment customers give you?
The greatest compliment our customers give us is, “I’ve NEVER seen anything like this” and also that there is a very “special” feeling here. What are you most grateful for?
I’m most grateful for the gift that God has given all of us is to be able to work with God’s beauty everyday and for all of the special people who work for us at Ebert’s, and for the talent each one of them have brought to us over the years.
Who/what can you credit to for your success?
God has blessed the hard work and determination that everyone who works here possesses, and they are all passionate about gardening and our industry as a whole.”
What are you most proud of?
I feel proud and blessed every day when I reflect on how this business started - My dad’s simple idea to start a cabbage and vegetable garden to the large full-time premier garden center it has become today.
What are some of the biggest challenges?
Some of the biggest challenges have come from the “growing pains” over the years. I’ve made many mistakes along the way as we learned as we grew.

Our gardening partner, Melinda Myers, is a horticultural expert, nationally known author, t.v. and radio personality who shares her knowledge at speaking engagements her on our grounds several times a year. Our annual Fall Festival and Fall Field Trips are very popular, and at Christmastime, we hold holiday workshops, and Santa comes to visit with the children! In our Kid’s Village, my wife Renee, organizes planting activities a few weekends a year and hosts field trips for the kids in spring. Is there anything else you would like to share about your shop?
I feel if someone hasn’t visited Ebert’s yet, we would love to invite them to come out around Mother’s Day in May. They’ll will appreciate the abundance of flowers we have, and how beautiful our grounds are! Ebert’s is beautiful from April 15th thru December 24th, so anytime is a great time to visit us!
