It is our great pleasure to inform you that the 2nd International EYP Forum in Armenia (IEFA 2015) on «Democratic Citizenship: obtaining, developing, empowering» (DECODE) will take place on 21st May – 28th May, 2015 in Yerevan, Armenia. Around 200 delegates from more than 50 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and Americas will come together for this eight-day program to discuss the specified topic in the respective committees. We are happy now to open the call for Vice-Presidents and Chairs for the upcoming Forum.

 Meet 200 participants from 50 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and Americas;  Discover Armenia, 1st country to adopt Christianity as official religion in 301 A.D.;  Visit world’s longest ropeway in the scope of IEFA;  Be part of big-scale Cultural Festival in the scope of Republic Day celebrations on May 28th;  Be part of the General Assembly hosted in Matenadaran – Institute of ancient manuscripts dating back 1st century;  Debate on daring and urgent topics not only with Europeans.

Participation fee for International Vice-Presidents and Chairpersons is 50€ (covering accommodation, meals and conference materials). There is no participation fee for Armenian VPs and Chairs.

The history of Armenia can be traced back to the establishment of the Armenian Kingdom in the 6th century BC which reached its height under Tigranes the Great, becoming one of the most powerful kingdoms of its time within the region. In 4th century AD, Armenia becomes the 1st country in the world to adopt Christianity as its state religion, thus pivoting a new era of cultural prosperity. Armenia lies in the highlands surrounding the Biblical mountains of Ararat, upon which Noah’s Ark is said to have come to rest after the flood. Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia, lies on the edge of the Ararat plain. According to the legend, after the Deluge, Noah saw a land from the Mount Ararat and cried “Yerevats, Yerevats!”(I see the land), which is believed to be the origin for the city’s name.

Being on the crossroads of West and East it has harmoniously combined the best of the two. The city is now proud to introduce its architectural jewels like the Republic Square, the Opera House, the Cascades, as well as numerous galleries, museums and parks. Entertainment, recreation, night walks along the Singing Fountains together with the hospitable company of the residents assures one’s entire enjoyment of the flamboyant city life. The European Youth Parliament (EYP) is a non-partisan and independent educational project which is tailored specifically to the needs of the young European citizen.

The EYP encourages independent thinking and socio-political initiative in young people and facilitates the learning of crucial social and professional skills. Since its inauguration, in 1987, many tens of thousands of young people have taken part in regional, national and international sessions, formed friendship, ponder over urgent issues of Europe, proposed solutions, made international contact across and beyond borders. Today the EYP is one of the largest European platforms for political educational work and the exchange of ideas among young people in Europe. The EYP consists of a network of more than 41 European associations and organisations in which targets to empower the young people through the involvement in the decision-making process. The entire network organises about 200 events every year. The Alumni of the EYP sessions include, among others, Freya van der Bossche, Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium, Ragnar Siil, advisor to the Estonian Minister for Culture, Christoph Gottschalk and Carole Moinard, advisors to the French Prime Minister, etc.

The EYP Armenia (www.eyparmenia.org) has been established and recognized as a full member of the European Youth Parliament network in December of 2012. Since then our delegates have taken part in numerous of regional sessions, international forums, and got involved in various projects with the most recent being Forum to Empower Emerging Leaders, 1st International EYP Forum in Armenia, International Public Speaking Championship, etc. Overall, EYP Armenia has implemented 24 projects within 2 years which involved around 3000 young people, hosted 400 foreign students from 68 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, Americas, etc. and 45 volunteers from Armenia, Georgia, Sweden, Romania, Austria, Czech Republic.

The Forum to Empower Emerging Leaders(FEEL) on “Activate youth for sustainability: obtaining and rebuilding” (AYSOR) took place November 14 – 18, 2014 in Yerevan. The Forum gathered young leaders from around 30 countries covering 22 European countries, and also delegates from New Zealand, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, South Africa, Syria, Lebanon,

Iran.

Parliament – Armenia in cooperation with EU Centre in Yerevan took place on 18019th July, 2014. The 16 selected participants took part in the workshop on public speaking skills delivered by the expert from Sweden and furthermore presented their 6

speeches on July 19th. Based on the voting of the jury comprising experts from Italy, Sweden and Armenia best speakers were chosen who will form the Armenian delegation at the Cork International Forum in Ireland. And one place in the delegation was given to the speaker who got the People`s Choice Award.

The International EYP Forum in Armenia (#IEFA) on “Democratic Citizenship:

obtaining,

developing,

empowering” took place in Yerevan, May 1-5 and hosted by the American University of Armenia. 200 delegates from more than 30 countries came together for this 5 day event in Yerevan. The delegates have been allocated to 10 Committees to discuss respective subtopics. In the scope of the International Forum, the best delegate was chosen based on the Independent Jury’s assessment and the voting of the 200 delegates to join the delegation representing Armenia at the 76th International Session of European Youth Parliament in Barcelona, Spain.

The EYP Business Simulation (EYP BuS) Conference organized by European Youth Parliament – Armenia in cooperation with the EU Centre took place on February 15 in Yerevan and gathered around 30 participants, 4 jury members

from

Sweden,

Hungary,

Czech

Republic and Romania. The 4 working groups formed presented to the jury the development potential of business environments in the countries of Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia and Georgia. After many round table debates, direct responses, exciting speeches the team representing Moldova took the gold, thus ensuring the places for its members at the International EYP Forum, May 1-5.

EYP Forum follows a similar programme and is based on the same methodology of teambuilding, committee work and General Assembly (GA) synthesized with the evening activities.

Teambuilding. Young people coming from very different background and having never met before will gather committees. They need to function as a close-knit team pulling together and respecting each other by the end of the event. The preparation for this challenge is the aim of the teambuilding activities. In conjunction with the committee chairperson, the delegates in committees engage in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Some of these are physical, others creative or problem solving but all of them are designed to get the group of people working as a team, creating the basis for an open, productive and fair political discussion in an atmosphere of trust among the participants.

Committee Work. Committee work is the central part of any session of the European Youth Parliament. The delegates of committee come together after the teambuilding to work on the particular topic allocated in the scope of the general topic which will result in a resolution. Resolution itself includes introductory and operative clauses: identification of the existing problems and the ways to solve them. The principle of consensus is central to the EYP method and it can be a huge challenge for the group to reach a compromise in the end. Chair is facilitating the group discussion and gives the insight into the specifics of the discussed topic.

The General Assembly (GA) The General Assembly reunites all the participants of the session in order to consider the results of the committee work.

committee

presents

resolution,

which

furthermore

defended,

attacked,

debated

ultimately, voted on based solely on the personal conscience of each delegate.

The Resolution is successfully passed if more than half of delegates voted in favor. In the end of the GA, 3 to 5 delegates are chosen to represent EYP Armenia at the International European Youth Parliament Session based on the voting of the jury and the delegates themselves.

Euroconcert and Eurovillage. The idea of the Eurovillage event is for all the delegations from all the countries to put together their own stall to present local products and culture. The presentation tables usually include a variety of local food and drinks, brochures, small gifts and other products. Quite often the delegation even wears their respective national costumes

to

celebration of the different nations. Every delegation will be asked to bring their national food and products.

The talents of EYPers are various, and in recognition of the many musically gifted among the participants, this event is a chance for these musicians to show their abilities, playing a variety of instruments, singing and dancing. Euroconcert is yet again a possibility to explore and share the diversity of more than 20 different cultures.

Visit to Wings of Tatev.

Wings of Tatev is 5.7 km cableway between Halidzor and Tatev Monastery. It is considered to be the longest reversible aerial tramway in the world and goes through strikingly beautiful mountain chain.

Being one of the UNESCO World Heritage sights in Armenia , Tatev Monastery is a 9th-century monastery located on a large basalt plateau near Tatev village in Syunik Province in southeastern Armenia and is a masterpiece of confluence of ingenious medieval architecture and fabulous nature of Armenia. According to one of the legends, Tatev should be interpreted from Armenian as “Give me Wings.” A local legend says that when the builder finished his work, he walked to the edge of the gorge, crossed himself saying, “Help me, Lord, give me wings,” and jumped into the abyss. Suddenly the builder had wings and flew away so the monastery he built was therefore named Tatev. The monastery was also the residence of Syunik Bishop with vast lands, craft workshops; it even collected taxes from hundreds of villages. In the 14th and 15th centuries Tatev Monastery hosted one of the most important Armenian medieval universities, the University of Tatev, which contributed to the advancement of science, religion and philosophy, reproduction of books and development of miniature painting.

OPENING CEREMONY. The Opening Ceremony of the Forum will be hosted by the National Gallery of the Republic of Armenia. The National Gallery of Armenia (NGA) was founded in 1921 and represents the artistic section of the State museum. It is the largest art museum in the Republic of Armenia.

significant

collections of the Western European art, and the world's largest collection of Armenian art. The first works to enter the collection where the dozens of works purchased from an Armenian painters' exhibition in August 1921. The NGA currently houses around 26,000 works of art, many of which are permanently displayed in the museum's 56 galleries and halls.

COMMITTEE WORK. The 2 days of the Committee Work of the Forum will be hosted

by Waldorf Educational Center in Yerevan.

The center was founded in 1994. After long battles with the public authority the initiative received a limited acceptance for Waldorf classes in a context of a public school, which eventually passes into an authorization as a private school in 2005. Waldorf Education has been known in Armenia since the 1920s, after Armenian greatest writers Levon Shanth, Hovhannes Tumanian, Ghazaros Aghayan, composer Komitas and others stressed in their educational writings the importance of a holistic and harmonious development of the human being.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY. General Assembly will be

the

Institute

of

Ancient

Manuscripts (the Matenadaran) built in 1957, Armenia's state repository of ancient manuscripts, including illuminated manuscripts. The Matenadaran, which in ancient Armenian means ‘‘manuscript store’’ or ‘‘library’’, is a major centre for the study and preservation of Armenian works of literature, history, music and art. compiled

the

Armenian

alphabet back in 405 A.D. Today Matenadaran has over 20.000 pieces of manuscripts dating back to even 1st century. Thus, it’s considered to be a unique place for the visitors of Yerevan and the country.

COMMITTEE DINNER. The Committee Dinner will be hosted by the Factory of Megerian Carpets in Yerevan. The Megerian Family has been involved in selling, restoration, and production of fine oriental rugs for over four generations. The Megerians established their rug trade business since 1917, and quickly developed an expertise in rug repairing

and

restoration.

Brothers’ tradition and integrity in the fine craft of handmade rug making, and restoration of rugs and tapestries is world renown. The Megerian Oriental Rug family has been the benchmark producer of New York City's handmade rugs and tapestries.

EURO VILLAGE & EURO CONCERT. The Euro Village will be hosted in the restaurant of “Café Abovyan 12 & Dalan Art Gallery” in the city center of Yerevan. “Café Abovyan 12 & Dalan Art Gallery” was opened in 2014. This place would be a good place for you to enjoy Armenian dishes, communication with local people and understand Armenian culture. Dalan Art Gallery is a souvenir shop. Why art gallery?

Because they not only sell souvenirs but also exhibit works of contemporary Armenian artists. The restaurant is in the backyard; you go there right through the souvenir shop and find yourself in a very green and a little rustic space right in the center of Yerevan. This outdoor café and restaurant serves Armenian style barbeque, tolma,

salads,

and

many

other

popular

Armenian dishes. They have an open kitchen, and you can actually see what and how they cook. The Euro Concert will be hosted by the Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall, which is located in the heart of Yerevan and in one of the oldest buildings of the city.

International delegates will be accommodated in Travelers and My Corner Guest Houses.

Both guest houses are located in the city center within 5- minute walk to the main jewelries of Yerevan: Republic Square and Cascades, that are considered to be open-air museums and one of the most striking sights in the region. The accommodation venue is fully equipped, has free wi-fi and all the facilities to make your stay unforgettable. In addition, the Travelers Guest House is located in the building of 18th century with the place it serves breakfast being the oldfashioned, typical Yerevanian yard from 18th century. While My Corner Guest House also has its own garden with the possibility of making barbecue in the free time.

SMART. During Committee Work you will be required to follow the smart dresscode. You will not be expected to wear your suit, but worn-out jeans with sneakers or flip-flops don’t quite fit the smart clothing requirements either - preferably you wear something in between.

For example, trousers with a shirt or a blouse will suit perfectly for Committee Work.

CASUAL. This dress code applies to Teambuilding, where you will be doing various activities, both indoors and outdoors, depending on the weather conditions. You are free to wear any type of clothing you feel comfortable in, as long as you are able to move around actively.

FORMAL. During the Opening Ceremony, the Euroconcert and the General Assembly you will be expected to dress formally. This means suits with ties for the gentlemen, and suits, dresses or skirts of an appropriate length for the ladies!
