THE MEDIA TEAM OPEN CALL august 12-16 2014
LOOKING FOR: 8 JOURNALISTS 1-2 EDITORIAL ASSISTANTS 1-2 VIDEO EDITORS
MESSAGE FROM THE EDITORS Dear potential applicant, Recently, Media Teams in EYP have very much been focussing on revolutionising the concept of EYP Media. Words such as ‘revolutionary’, ‘ground-breaking’ and ‘innovative’ are thrown around prior to sessions, trying to get as many people excited as possible. However, they often lack the means to realise this. We think this is something that really harms the reputation of EYP Media Teams, because the end product can hardly ever live up to these outrageous claims. What we would like to do is to give you the opportunity to actually come to Sigulda ‘14 and prove that an EYP Media Team can deliver decent academic output that can enhance a session experience, without making false claims prior to the session. We are very much committed to work hard with you and help the delegates of Sigulda ‘14 become more informed about current European affairs and to contribute to the session experience for every participant. We believe that a Media Team can have a lot of influence on the overall academic quality of a session. During a session, however, this influence is incredibly limited. All participants have already prepared, so a Media Teams’ attempts to inform people are often no longer needed. Similarly, attempts to challenge and change people’s views frequently fail. In our opinion, efforts to raise the academic knowledge amongst participants and such should occur before a session starts. During the session itself, we want to focus on matters that relate to the session-topics, but fall out of their scope. In this way, we will aim on educating session participants beyond the confines of the session. We are looking for a group of people that is willing to look further than the bounds set by the session. We expect our team to deliver high-quality materials, both in print and online. Since we are planning on producing content even before the session begins, we also expect a certain level of commitment. Obviously, the above does not mean we won’t have fun. Our life motto resonates in all that we do and we will live by it at this session as much as at any other: ‘work hard, play harder’. With love, Karim Ben Hamda and Henok Ghebrenigus The Editors of LNC 2014
