WOOD PULLOVER Carrie Bostick Hoge

When approaching this design I knew two things from the start: I wanted the silhouette to be cozy enough for a walk in the woods and I wanted to chose a stitch pattern that looked like branches of a tree. After much thought about the silhouette, I chose a pullover for its easy-going and comfortable nature. I wanted the sweater to have a slightly modern feel, so I made the body boxy and wide, but sloped the shoulders for an attractive fit on top. The stitch pattern was an easier decision since the name of it is Tree Cable! Also, it knit up beautifully in Loft. The cables were fun to place around the pullover. You’ll notice the two back cables are asymmetrical, mimicking uneven branches on a tree. And the sleeve cables are worked from the top down, so they are running in a different direction than the body cables. Finished measurements 40¾ (44¼, 47¾, 51¼, 54½, 58, 61½, 65, 68½)" [103.5 (112, 121, 130, 138.5, 147.5, 156.5, 165, 174) cm] bust circumference Shown in size 44¼" [112 cm] and shorter body length with 9¾" [25 cm] positive ease Yarn Loft by Brooklyn Tweed (100% Targhee-Columbia wool; 275yd [251m]/50g) Shown in Barn Owl For shorter length: • 5 (6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9) skeins For longer length: • 6 (6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9, 10) skeins OR For shorter length: 1350 (1495, 1630, 1770, 1900, 2050, 2195, 2340, 2495) yds fingering weight yarn For longer length: 1435 (1590, 1730, 1880, 2015, 2170, 2325, 2480, 2640) yds fingering weight yarn Needles • One 16" circular needle (circ) in size US 3 [3.25 mm] • One 24" circ in size US 4 [3.5 mm] • One set of double-pointed needles in size US 4 [3.5 mm] Or size to obtain gauge Notions • Stitch markers (m) • Stitch holders or waste yarn • Tapestry needle • Short lengths of waste yarn for working Sunday Short Rows pg 2
