The flagship of Boston Whaler’s fleet, the 420 Outrage boasts luxury amenities and state-ofthe-art technology that makes it the ultimate family-friendly sports-fishing cruiser.

WE WERE introduced to the Boston Whaler 420 Outrage at the Dubai International Boat Show, and we were instantly impressed. A centre console layout with big cabin space and an optional upper helm station, the 420 Outrage is as close as you can get to a cabin cruiser whilst still having that great open air experience.

Boston Whaler’s USP is their patented foam-filled double-hull, which makes them practically unsinkable. Due to the size of the 420, it weighs in at over 12 tonnes, making it a weighty hull that is stable and comfortable for cruising. You can add to the stability with the optional Seakeeper technology, which is an impressive spinning gyroscopic electronic stabilizer that counteracts the pitch and roll of the waves.

Despite the weight, the 420 is no slouch, with propulsion coming courtesy of a choice of quad Mercury 300 or 350 Verado joystick-enabled engines, giving a total output of either 1200 or 1400hp respectively.

Not only does this provide impressive speed and performance, but also incredible ease of manoeuvring when docking. The four engines can be simultaneously controlled by simple inputs on the joystick, and work together for easy positioning of the boat.

This impressive system also creates another feature, the Skyhook, which at the push of a button will hold the boat in position on the water, using the four propellers to work against the tide and keep the boat in one spot. And then there’s the autopilot, which speaks for itself.

As for on-board amenities, the 420 Outrage boasts everything you’d expect from a large family fishing cruiser, such as plenty of seating with versatile changing configurations allowing for more seating and picnic options, or more sunloungers, depending on requirements. There is also on-deck galley area with sink, fifty-gallon livewell and grill.

In the interior cabin, there’s a refrigerator, freezer and microwave, as well as innovative storage cabinets for cutlery and crockery. The cabin is very spacious, with over six feet of headroom throughout, a large seating area with expandable picnic table, and a bathroom with toilet and shower. The seating area also converts into a large berth for overnight trips.

The 420 Outrage also comes with the Czone control system, that is controlled via an app on the iPad which comes standard with the boat. The system can control virtually all aspects of the boat, from the interior and exterior lighting to the window blinds in the cabin, the climate control, stereo, and it can even be controlled remotely via WiFi. Air-conditioning is available both inside the cabin and through vents at the main helm, which is a real bonus for owners here in the Gulf!

The Boston Whaler 420 Outrage is undoubtedly impressive, but this is the flagship of the brand, and as such, and you will pay dearly for the privilege of owning one. For a high-spec example, you can expect to pay in excess of a million US dollars!

However, if you’re a serious mariner more concerned with fishing and the ocean experience, you have the money, and you’re not bothered with the flamboyance of owning a luxury motoryacht, then this is about as good as it gets!
