Boat Shows It’s all about مسوم

It’s our first issue of the year, and with a full year behind us now we cruise into 2016 full of confidence and optimism for the months to come. We’re not reflecting on 2015 – we did that last issue – so this time we’re looking ahead at the coming season and relishing what’s in store.

And what’s in store for us is beautiful weather, fine sailing – as demonstrated by the Extreme Sailing Series (see p.22) and the EFG Sailing Arabia Tour which both kicked off in February – and spectacular boat shows.

The first of the year was the Kuwait Yacht Show, which we visited in February. The KYS 2016 is the season opener, taking place in one of the wealthiest nations in the world, and as such attracts a fair showing of regional premieres and product launches to its pontoons. In this issue we talk to organiser and co-founder Zeina Mokkadam to find out more about the event and its successes.

However, while KYS 2016 is the season opener, the Dubai International Boat Show 2016 is the biggest show in the region, and a highlight of the global boat show calendar, and you can find more details on our News Opener (p.12). We’ll be carrying more in-depth coverage of DIBS2016 in our next issue.

The biggest boat show in the region returns to the Dubai International Marine Club Mina Seyahi for the 24th year this February, bringing all things marinerelated along with it.

WITh over two decades of maritime history under its belt, the Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) is well established as the MENA region’s number one marine luxury, leisure and lifestyle industry event.

Last year, more than 26,000 visitors from 120 different countries attended the boat show to experience elite super yachts, leisure crafts, interactive activities and exotic supercars, as well as equipment supplies and services.

The event had over 850 leading international, regional and local exhibitors from over 50 countries, showcasing more than 430 of the finest collection of super yachts and leisure craft from across the globe, making it an unparalleled platform for exhibitors to display products to the Middle East’s and International marine investors and enthusiasts. In addition, the event was supported by new sub sectors covering sailing, watersports and fishing.

Dibs 2016

New for 2016 are a whole range of displays and interactive activities. This year you can except to see casting and winching competitions, fishing and sailing trips, jetski stunts and tricks and match racing, among others.

There will also be hands-on sailing and boating experiences. Targeting boat owners and potential buyers, these sessions will give visitors first hand experience of what it is like on the water. Also being staged in tandem with the event is an underwater photography competition, open to all diving enthusiasts, with generous prizes up for grabs.
