20 Years of Building Excellence More than a hundred years ago my great grandfather John Smith, like millions of European immigrants, came to America with not much more than a few bags, his new bride, and his skills as a blacksmith. He came here to America to BUILD a new life. John and Francis Smith settled in a small town in the Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania. He would become the town blacksmith and they would have six sons, the youngest of whom was my grandfather Ted Smith. From our family stories, I think my great grandfather was a realistic version of Longfellow’s poem, “The Village Blacksmith.” After church on Sunday, his wife would have him open up his shop to let the neighborhood women gather and bake bread in his furnace. The tradition lasted many years and while metal was forged six days a week, friendship and community was forged on the seventh day. John Smith was known as an honest and hard-working man and I enjoy thinking of the way he built his business and his friendships in a small town a hundred years ago. The advent of the automobile spelled the end for blacksmiths, and John Smith would tell his sons to seek other paths. When we started Factory Five Racing in 1995, it was my father who reminded me that this was a return to our family tradition of blacksmithing in a way. The tools were different for sure — The bellows and furnace are now CNC cutting machines and MIG welders, but modern-day Smiths we were, and the automobile that spelled the end of our family craft three generations ago would bring us back to metal a century later. In many ways, all of us are living and repeating the lives of those who came before us. I like to think that many of the things that have made Factory Five Racing successful come directly from this fact.
What we do at Factory Five Racing is design and manufacture affordable, high-performance “build-it-yourself”-car projects. How we do this is by using factory engineered running gear, modern technology, and a talented staff to make cars that deliver on the promises their good looks make. The what and the how are important, but it’s the why that is at the heart of Factory Five. Friendships forged at my great grandfather’s blacksmith shop a century ago were made the same way we make them today. At Factory Five Racing, we build. We love to build things. We build cars. We build friendships. We build community. We build family stories. We build dreams. We build respect for labor and craft. The things we build make a difference in the lives of others. That is the why behind Factory Five Racing. Every decision I make running this company is sifted and winnowed not against what will make us the most money, but against this standard of building something meaningful. On behalf of the employees and families of Factory Five Racing, I want to extend to you my thanks for giving us a chance to build a great car with you. The small fact that it will be the coolest, fastest car in town is a nice bonus.

The Company Factory Five Racing was founded in 1995. Over the years we have grown from a start-up business in a small garage to become the world’s largest manufacturer of component car kits. We employ a full-time crew of about 40 people, and are located in Wareham, Massachusetts (about an hour south of Boston). We make our products right here in the USA, in the heart of New England where American manufacturing was born. Our company headquarters is a combined 62,000 square feet for our operations. But that’s just the boring stuff… it doesn’t tell you anything about who we are and what we really do. Ours is a company like no other. Our success comes directly from our collaboration with our customers. Every Factory Five is built by a customer, and our names and reputations ride shotgun with each build.
niscent of Harley Davidson back in the day. It’s true. Meet any of us at a car show, here at work, at a race, or ask any customer… you’ll know instantly that you’ve joined a special club.
“Factory Five has quite literally changed the kit car industry… First and foremost, they build a decent car — actually, they build a truly awesome car. In fact their design philosophy is completely foreign to what is standard practice in the kit car industry. The car is built more like a GT racer than a kit car…” Tim Suddard Editos, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine
Factory Five customers are the driving force behind our success. The passion and support of our customers is matched by the dedication of our staff of committed car professionals. Combined, you get a formula that is remi-

Modern Technology Tools of the Modern Craftsmen. Technology has consistently delivered more value and a lower price. The same general principles ought to apply to component cars. The application of new technologies in an old-world industry is what sets our company apart from the crowd. Computers and CNC technology are the foundations on which the Factory Five revolution was built. We design our chassis parts, production tooling, and body shapes with the latest CAD/CAM technology. We use SolidWorks® computer design software and HP hardware to design all of our cars. Computer-based technologies drive everything we do including design, pre-production quality assurance, pilot production, product bill of materials and packlists, manufacturing cut lists, CNC laser cutting, robot trimming, and welding. By using technologies of CAD/CAM and CNC-based manufacturing, we have been able to reduce the costs of manufacturing while improving the accuracy, strength and finish of the product. “You get what you pay for” is yesterday’s thinking. Welcome to the 21st century where technology and innovation are the keys to getting more quality and more performance for less money.

Responsible Manufacturing Right Materials, Made Right, Made in the USA. While our talented engineering staff uses advanced computer designs up front, our manufacturing team finishes the job by using the right materials, tools and training to build a better part. Not only does Factory Five lead the component car industry in engineering technology, but we set the bar just as high in responsible, quality manufacturing. The end result of all this work is that this most American of cars is made by American craftsmen using the right tools and the right materials, the right way.
Every Factory Five chassis and all of Factory Five’s operations are powered by our 181 kW solar energy array.
Our certified welders use CAD/CAM-based welding jigs that are built with laser-cut tooling steel and hold parts to a high degree of accuracy.
Our Mitsubishi CNC laser cutting machine provides precision cut aluminum and steel parts for our welding and chassis assembly departments. Factory Five has earned the “Good Manufacturing Practices” Award from the Association of Handbuilt Automobiles three times!

Mk4 Roadster The World’s Best Selling Component Car
6
Better Than It Ever Was. The Factory Five Mk4 Roadster is the world’s best-selling, best-engineered, and best-performing replica of all time. There is no better way to honor a legacy than to continue it. The Mk4 Roadster is designed to accurately reproduce the looks of the legendary 427 Cobra,* keeping its essence intact, while using modern technology, parts, and materials to improve performance, reliability, and comfort. More than 20 years have passed since we introduced the first Factory Five Roadster. Back in 1995, kit cars were at opposite ends of the spectrum. There were well-built but expensive replicas on one end, and poorly-built, inexpensive “kit cars” at the other end. This is still mostly true today, except for the cars built by a small group of wing-nuts at a company called Factory Five Racing. The marriage of modern CAD-based engineering and vintage design is a winning combination. At the heart of this revolution is technology that enables us to deliver a better product at a better price. That technology is applied to our products by race car guys and engineers, not salesmen. Our proplr love what they do, love the customers they work for, and are an active part of the car building community. Perhaps the biggest reason we are so successful is that we have consistently delivered on the promise that these cars hold. Your Factory Five Mk4 will be easier to build than you might have thought, better engineered than you
realized, and will drive and perform better than you could have imagined. All along the way you’ll meet the best people in the world as you join the amazing group of Factory Five owners. Our company had humble beginnings in a small garage in Massachusetts in 1995. Since then, Factory Five has literally taken over the component car industry. The Mk4 design has won more show awards, battled for more racing wins, and received more accolades and recognition from the press than any other car in the industry.

Two Ways to Build Your Mk4 Base Kit or Complete Kit. There are two ways to build your Factory Five Mk4 Roadster. You can use parts from a Mustang donor car (Base Kit) or you can get all-new parts from us (Complete Kit). Either way you choose to build your Factory Five Roadster, we have engineered the kit to make the process of building your own car as simple and straightforward as possible.
“An entire day spent driving several radically different versions of FFR cars, from factory demos to pure home-builts, solidified the opinion that these are real cars, not toys. If you’ve thought about building an FFR yourself, don’t be afraid... the end product is a brutal little road rocket that’s enormous fun to drive.” Rob Kinnan Editor, Hot Rod Magazine
Base Kit – $12,990
Complete Kit – $19,990
The original Factory Five Mk1 Roadster was based on the innovation of using running gear from a single donor vehicle, namely, the high-performance Ford Mustang. The concept was, and still is, so simple. If you have our base Mk4 kit and running gear parts from a 1987-2004 Mustang GT donor car, you already have all the parts you need to build and drive your car!
Over the years we have expanded our chassis kit to include factory-new parts as well. Our Mk4 complete kit delivers to you… well, a complete kit. The only additional things you’ll need are your own engine/transmission/rear end, wheels/tires, and paint.

Authentic Design, Race-Proven Engineering Mk4 Frame and Chassis. You want to compare kits? Start with the frame. The artistry, strength, and complexity of the Factory Five Mk4 frame is reason enough to stop looking right here. The beauty of our design is accentuated by the fact that it is stronger and more rigid than you’ll realistically need. We use an authentic 4” round tube design. We feel strongly that a quality replica should have a period correct, 4” round tube frame, just like the original legend. The tubular ladder-style frames used in the original 1960s AC cars are more than beautiful, they are representative of a period of automotive design that is legendary. We chose to use this style of frame despite the manufacturing difficulty and cost, since a huge part of a quality replica is its faithfulness to the spirit of the original cars. While originality is very important, if the frame doesn’t perform, what good is it? We kept the design style, but used CAD technology, better materials, and more consistent manufacturing methods to make it more than twice as strong. Since 1995, the Factory Five Roadster frame has become known for its strength and ability to protect its occupants. With over 800 welds and hundreds of individual pieces of steel, the Mk4 frame is both engineering excellence and functional automotive art. The frame is a completely welded assembly and requires no welding or cutting. When you see Factory Five cars winning national races or lifting the tires clear off the ground, check out the “straight-as-an-arrow” frame quietly doing its job. There is no finer replica frame. Period.

Mk4 Roadster Frame
Our welded parts are made in the USA with American labor.
A Great Car Starts with a Great Chassis. A chassis is the foundation of the house. Today’s fourth-generation Mk4 Roadster frame has benefited from years of refinement and development. It is both lightweight (376 lbs.) and strong. We use high-quality, precision-cut plate steel with 1010 and 1020 DOM tubing. The Mk4 frame stands head and shoulders above the original 1965 legend thanks to better tools, better materials, and modern technology. Our welded parts are made in the USA with American labor.
Hood, doors and trunk are all hinged to the structural frame, not the fiberglass body. Many fiberglass bucket replicas have a flimsy dash hoop bolted to the floor.
The Mk4 chassis features a beautiful round tube front X-member, which helps make for an authentic and strong chassis.
Plate steel is laser-cut from high-quality A-36 steel stock.
The 4” round tube main rails are made from higher quality steel and are thicker than the original frames: 0.120” wall DOM (drawn over mandrel) tubing, up from .095” in the original 1960s frames.
10
Engine, transmission, and suspension mounts are ready to accept bolt-on components.
The Factory Five Mk4 frame is computer designed on Solidworks™ software using Hewlett Packard workstations. The driver-side roll bar is higher and stronger than the original, with passenger-side mounts on every frame so you can add a passenger roll bar anytime.
The dash/cowl hoop is 0.10 thick wall steel, welded to the frame as part of the cockpit surround cage.
Front and rear energy absorbing crumple zones help protect driver and passenger.
Welded steel side impact bars, door steel, footbox, and cockpit dash hoop surrounds help make the Mk4 frame far safer than original cars.
The cockpit and footbox areas feature a steel cage surround structure taken directly from our NASA racing series.
We added a backbone section to the original ladder design and extra perimeter tubing that more than doubles torsional rigidity of the Mk4 frame over the original.
Triangulation bracing has been added to the front suspension, vertical supports, dash, rear sub-frame, and trunk.

Mk4 Aluminum Panels “This ain’t no kit car.” – Mustang & Fords Magazine. A traditional kit car may use a fiberglass tub and body bolted to a cheap platform frame, but you won’t find modern streetcars or racecars built that way. Even vintage 1960s cars like the original ACs, Ferraris and GT-40s used proven racecar construction methods of tubular frames and riveted/bonded aluminum panels. The aluminum chassis panels found in our Mk4 combines this traditional quality with the latest CAD/CAM technologies and superior construction methods. The entire cockpit, trunk and engine bay of the Factory Five Mk4 is precision laser-cut 6061-T6 aluminum, without any fiberglass structural items. Underneath these aluminum panels, a matrix of steel tubing provides support surfaces for a close, tight-fitting installation. Why 6061-T6 aluminum? Conventional 4000-series aluminum is easier to bend and form, but not as strong in tension. We invested in learning how to correctly form the 6061-T6 to get the benefit of increased strength for the same weight. The strong foundation of our world-class frame combined with our aluminum chassis panels bonded and riveted to it represents just one of the major design and functional differences between the Mk4 and almost every other replica sold today. Underneath our hand-laid fiberglass composite body are almost 40 individual aluminum panels attached to the Factory Five Mk4 spaceframe.
12
Mk4 Composite Body Period-Correct Shape, Made Correct. Period. The body shape of the Factory Five Mk4 is extremely accurate benefitting from, and a direct descendent of, two original cars, CSX 3042 and the late Dick Smith’s famous #198, CSX 3035. The composite body is a one-piece, hand-laid vinylester part that is engineered to complement the strong steel and aluminum chassis, which provides structural support. The hood, doors and trunk have molded liners and come complete with hinges and pre-drilled mounting holes. The body shell is laminated to a thickness of 3/16” all around, with a .015” red gel coat outer finish. The composite body is shipped pre-assembled to the frame. The parts are unfinished (requiring bodywork). Panels are CNC router trimmed.
We know molding. Since 1995, we’ve built and shipped more than 11,000 body shells and over 40,000 body panels, and built more than 100 complex molds and tools.
“Station to station at Factory Five, it is clear that quality principles are in full force.” Craig Fitzgerald Editor, Hemmings Muscle Machines

Recognized as a proven and worthy upgrade to the standard Mustang 4-link, this suspension eliminates any bind and provides an amazingly predictable ride at the track or on the street. 3. Independent Rear Suspension Our Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) option is designed for those looking for the most comfort, authenticity, and performance. The IRS can be added to either the base or the complete kit. It includes a welded-in cage, upper and lower tubular control arms, high-end KONI mono-tube rod-end coil-over shocks (matched to the fronts), and custom assembled axles and CV joints. The IRS option for the Mk4 kit requires the 8.8” center section, rear spindles, and brakes from a 2015 or later Ford Mustang. Brakes/Wheels The base Mk4 Roadster kit uses the rear-end and brakes from a 1987-2004 Mustang donor car. The Mk4 Roadster complete kit comes with brand-new front brakes including S/N 95 style spindles and Ford GT 11” front rotors with twin piston PBR aluminum calipers. Mk4 Safety Our Safety Record Is No Accident. The legends of the 60s were built not only from racing victories, but from tragedies as well. Back then, many basic safety features were either not used or not available. Today’s Factory Fives are stronger, faster, and safer than the original cars. In the world of hot rods, customs and kits we stand miles above the crowd. As the only replica company that has a dedicated racing series, we speak from a unique perspective. We have a company that is single-minded in our passion for racing and performance, so safety is our daily religion. You can trust our products because the chassis that you build as a hot rod project is the same one that our team trusts with their lives on the track. Safety is a combination of good engineering, correct materials, and careful construction.

289 USRRC Roadster Period Correct. Period.
28
The Factory Five Mk4 289 USRRC Roadster is based on the best-selling Mk4. The differences between the Mk4 427 replica and the 289 replica are subtle, but those changes add up to make the 289 a very unique car. The Factory Five 289 USRRC Roadster is a gentleman’s racer. It is smaller, more precise, and is the saber to the Mk4’s broadsword. For sure, the car appeals to a smaller group than the best-selling Mk4, but it has a passionate following. We’ve had reasons to build this car for a long time, but with the 50th anniversary (1964-2014) of the original 289-powered FIA/USRRC racer, we finally decided to commit the resources to design and launch a truly period-correct version of this famous car. There were significant variations of original 289 body shapes. The car we picked to replicate is one of the most famous vintage racers of all time, CSX 2260 #14 piloted by Dave MacDonald, Jo Schelesser, Phil Hill, Innes Irland, and Maston Gregory. This car has the nicest fender flares, stance, and is one of the best looking of the 289 racers.
We unveiled the Factory Five 289 USRRC model at the 2014 Factory Five Open House event and began production the same year, exactly 50 years after the very first one was made! We’ve built more vintage roadster replicas than any one else in the world, and now the 289 USRRC replica joins its big brother in the Factory Five line-up.
“The Factory Five 289 is amazingly precise as a replica of the cars I raced as privateer and as part of the Shelby American race team. The only difference is it is better in every measurable way.” Allen Grant Shelby Team Driver, 1965 World Champion

289 USRRC Roadster Body/Exterior Period-Correct 289 USRRC/FIA Body. The Factory Five 289 begins with a hand-laid composite body. We took painstaking effort to ensure that this was an absolutely dimensionally correct USRRC shape. The body shape is narrower and includes more pronounced fender flares, cool side-cut doors, 289 radiator opening and oil cooler opening.
Original specification spun aluminum Raydot mirrors are standard.
The body has a smaller and more delicate hood scoop with proper metal mesh grill insert and a smaller radiuses leading edge that matches the original car.
The nose opening for the radiator and the lower opening for the oil cooler are the correct shape and angle.
30
The 289 USRRC Roadster utilizes the latest Mk4 chassis which means that the 3-link and IRS options are available as are all Mk4 shock and suspension options.
The trunk is available in two forms. The FIA-version has squared-off luggage protrusions (shown right) and the USRRC trunk is the rounded shape.
The center gas cap is a distinguishing characteristic of the USRRC design, and rises through the body in the same manner and location as the original.
Just like the rest of the 289 body, period-correct details are everywhere. The trunk has accurate “suitcase” dimples, bungee cord mounts, and bungee cord. The DOT-approved rectangular tail lights finish off the period correct tail section.
The roll bar is identical to the original with a forward-canted petty bar that still allows sufficient passenger legroom.
Original specification side exhausts are single tube 3” units with integral glass-pack muffler mounted in the correct position below the body.
The 289 USRRC Roadster has the correct wheelbase and track. The front is narrower than the 427 and accommodates vintage Halibrand style rims all-around. The wheel sizes are periodcorrect 7.5” front and 8.5” rear. Authentic pin drive rims are available as an option and fit excellently with the accurate USRRC wheelbase and track.
31
289 USRRC Roadster Details A Pure Replica for the Purist. In 1965, the racing governing body of Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) rules required street acutraments on homologized race cars. The USRRC kit includes a period-correct driver and passenger seat. The shifter is vertical just like the original car, and the dash is pre-cut in the correct vintage layout. The Factory Five vintage gauges come standard and are very similar to the original Stewart Warner gauges. If the customer uses Stewart Warner gauges, a credit can be given for the unused Factory Five vintage gauges.
Kit includes period-correct FIA driver’s seat and street passenger seat, exact dash layout, and vintage shifter in proper location. Stewart Warner gauges shown. Full line of Mk4 engine/transmission options are available. Hi-Po 289 engine with Webers shown.

Car Builder Magazine profiled the Factory Five 289 USRRC in their December 2015 issue.
Allen Grant signs the newest Factory Five Mk4 289 at the 2014 SEMA Show. The car was displayed in the Sherwin Williams paint booth.
“FFR’s attention to details is extraordinary, patterned after one of the most famous 289 FIA racers of all time, CSX 2260.” Christian Rowell Journalist, Car Builder Magazine
Rectangular tail lights, relocated center gas cap, even bungee cords and mounts are period-correct details that are standard on the 289 model. You can choose the FIA style trunk with suitcase creases (shown above) or the rounded USRRC trunk.

The Mk4 Challenge model is the competition version of our best selling Mk4 Roadster. The car takes the Mk4 Roadster to a more serious competition level, and is engineered to be used in wheel-to-wheel road racing, drag racing, and is eligible for NASA’s Factory Five Challenge Series.
racing series, and Factory Five Challenge Cars have competed successfully in the tough 25 Hours of Thunderhill roadrace.
Challenge Cars have left the pits and headed for the starting grid literally thousands of times since the car entered production in 2000. No other replica can even come close to the racing hours and track wins of the FFR Challenge Car design. The Challenge Car is not just completely dominant, it’s truly the only real option for serious competition in a replica design. If you are a person who plans to use your car for more than an occasional open-track day, then this chassis kit was designed for you. Built from the foundation of the proven Mk4 chassis, the modified Challenge Car chassis meets SCCA GT1 design criteria and is approved for NASA’s wheel-to-wheel Factory Five Racing Challenge Series and other race classes. Mk4 Challenge Cars have been dominant in competitive race events for more than 15 years. Ford Racing selected a Challenge Car to serve as one of the 2006 Champ Car “Fast Laps” pace cars. Mk4 Challenge Car Chassis
Our welded parts are made in the USA with American labor.
Race-Proven Strength, Balance, and Safety. The modified Mk4 Roadster frame enjoys a serious cage thanks to the NASA and SCCA guidelines for open GT-1 cars. Frame mods accommodate mounting and shielding of the racing fuel cell, intrusion plates and racing seats. The chassis is about 15 percent more rigid than the Mk4 Roadster. Most of the additional steel is for safety, rather than chassis rigidity. There is no backbone section to the frame, but the full race cage contributes more than that in added rigidity.
A Factory Five Challenge Car was the very first entry into the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race.
Standard race parts include: Simpson brand H-harness for driver and passenger, collapsible steering column, driveshaft safety bars, and front/rear energy absorbing crush zones.
The Factory Five 3-link suspension is our most optimized race suspension and is standard on the Challenge Car frame. High performance IRS is an available suspension option.
Additional race tubing adds about 100 pounds to the Mk4 chassis.
Complete NASA approved competition roll cage with side impact bars, mounting for intrusion plates, footbox steel tubing protection and cockpit 38 steel surround structure.
Brakes: Spec legal cars in the FFR-NASA Challenge series must wear Mustang GT brakes that are standard in the kit, but open classers and non-spec racers can run optional Wilwood road race brakes.
The Factory Five Mk4 frame is computer designed on Solidworks™ software using Hewlett Packard workstations.
Full cage means that you can race solo or with a passenger (handy for instructors and track day sign-offs).
Tubular side impact bars render the hinged Mk4 doors fixed.
The Challenge Car can use the same variety of engine/transmission choices as the Mk4 Roadster.
Up front is a fully independent tubular front suspension with unequal length upper and lower A-arms and highend KONI brand single-adjustable coil-over shocks
Factory Five Challenge Car was selected by Ford and Champ Car as an official pace car in 2006.

‘33 Hot Rod At Last! A Hot Rod That Handles
42
For the longest time I swore we would never build a hot rod. The ones I had seen were beautiful machines whose handling and performance were a big disappointment. Our focus at Factory Five has always been to use modern engineering to build cars that perform as good as they look. The idea of building a traditional replica of a 1930s Ford was an inherent conflict. The original frame, chassis, and suspension designs that make up the bulk of what is sold today are not really capable of delivering sports car performance and modern ride quality. In the October 2004 issue of Hot Rod Magazine, then editor David Freiburger asked illustrator Thom Taylor to pen the lines for what he envisioned as the future of hot rodding in the form of a “race rod.” He dreamed of a “glass body on a full-tube chassis with a gen 3 aluminum V-8 at 2,400 lbs. “Imagine the violence,” he would write. When Jim Schenck, our director of R&D, came to me with his ideas for a next generation hot rod, I was immediately impressed. The idea of making a high-performance and comfortable daily driver ‘33 was exciting and that race rod sketch immediately came to mind. Jim’s ideas weren’t limited to just designing a performance hot rod. His excellent
understanding of the Hot Rod market enabled him to see where there were opportunities for a “leap-frog” product. Today, most hot rods are looks first and everything else a distant second. In addition to performance that leaves something to be desired, most guys are forced to cobble together parts from a wide variety of companies and sources. Jim pitched me on the idea of using the Factory Five product template on the Hot Rod. The idea was to stay as traditional as possible, but make performance and drivability the focus and package all the parts together to reduce the number of places a guy has to go. It made a lot of sense. We introduced the Factory Five ‘33 at the November 2008 SEMA Show where it earned “Best in Show - Hot Rod” and “Best Engineered Product - Runner-Up.” In 2012, the car won the GoodGuys National Autocross title in both pro and street classes. In its short life, the car has earned a slew of awards and industry recognition. The car has changed the way people think about the “stereo-typical” version of a hot Rod. 43
Hot Rod Evolution by Jim Schenck The most important thing to understand is that from the very beginning of this project, I didn’t want to compromise what we, Factory Five, do with cars in building this hot rod. What I mean is that when you design a car like this, it looks fast… but it’s a big disappointment if it’s not. I really wanted to build a sports car that’s about performance and driving fun as much as it is about looks. Truthfully, that’s where the original Hot Rods started out — guys who wanted to make their cars faster than the other guys. In that sense, I think what we have done with this design is faithful to the original cars and hot rodding culture. Apart from the driving focus, we gave a lot of consideration to customization. Not only should a hot rod be fast but it should be a platform from which guys can build their cars in a variety of ways to make their own expression, and even change it once it has been built. The removable hard top/slide-in-windshield, removable side engine covers, and removable fenders, among other things, were designed with customization in mind.
Jim Schenck, Director of R&D, is also in charge of the Factory Five Racing-NASA Challege Series. He races his own Factory Five in road racing and autocross events.
I’m proud of this car. As the design chief, I feel that the car benefits from our company’s talents in engineering and performance, while at the same time continues the legacy of American hot rods in a new and exciting way. Jim Schenck Director of R&D
HOT ROD PREDICTION “With musclecars taking off so big right now, it will be a while before 48-and-olders are the fresh buzz. But when that happens, it will be with a new crowd and a new look. Our race-rod concept probably ain’t it, but the street rod genre must evolve or die.” David Freiburger Editor

One Car, Infinitely Customizable The Factory Five ’33 Hot Rod package is unlike any build-it-yourself hot rod on the market, in that it comes with everything you need except for the running gear. Rather than putting together a chassis, a body, suspension parts, interior, etc., from various manufacturers, our parts are engineered and manufactured in one place, and are delivered in one big box of brand new parts. You can build your Hot Rod in two ways. You can buy our complete package for $19,990 or you can build the car in two stages. The Stage 1 package costs $9,990 and gives you everything you need to build the car up to a driving chassis. The Stage 2 also costs $9,990 and gives you the body, interior, trim, etc., to finish your car. The Factory Five ‘33 Hot Rod was featured in a three-part build series in Hot Rod Magazine where the car was built in five days by a group of customers and magazine staff. Shortly after building the car, editor Rob Kinnan took the car on the Hot Rod Power Tour and competed with it in the GoodGuys Nationals Autocross in Columbus, Ohio. You can read the complete article series on our website. Factory Five ‘33 scores cover of Hot Rod Magazine!
Stage 1 & 2 – $9,990 each

‘33 Hot Rod Frame
Our welded parts are made in the USA with American labor.
A ‘33 Chassis Like No Other. Under our classic ‘33 body is a frame like no other. Once we accepted that we could not make an original style frame strong enough to meet the demands of a performance sports car, we made the decision to design an all-new, completely modern, extremely rigid, and yet aesthetically pleasing, tubular steel space-frame. The ultra-rigid frame is made of mig-welded, high strength carbon steel tubing and plate steel. This unique design delivers great torsional rigidity, increased cockpit space, and numerous safety features.
Safety designed collapsible steering column and bolt-on mounts for Wilwood pedal box.
Each frame is finish welded by hand, but supported by CAD designed tooling, high quality materials, and CNC robotics. The CAD/CAM based jigs are built with laser-cut tooling steel and hold parts to a high level of accuracy.
High performance cantilever style in-board KONI™ mono-tube coil-over shocks and tubular front suspension control arms are standard.
46
CAD designed tubular steel frame with backbone delivers tremendous torsional rigidity and a low vehicle weight. The welded assembly weighs only 275 lbs. total!
The vehicle/chassis is 3” wider than the original car. This makes more space in the cockpit. The rearward and low engine placement delivers low center of gravity and optimum front/rear weight distribution.
The Factory Five Mk4 frame is computer designed on Solidworks™ software using Hewlett Packard workstations.
Single full-width removable roll bar can be used with roadster or hardtop. Made from 1.5 “ OD, .120” wall DOM tubing.
The ‘33 chassis is referenced extensively in an official college text book on SolidWorks and 3D solid modeling.
Hood, doors, and trunk all mount directly to the steel frame, not the body shell. Doors are authentic rear-hinged “suicide door” design.
Side impact protection, DOT door latches, tubular steel door frames, and welded driveshaft safety hoops are some of the safety features built into the ‘33 frame.
Bolt-on engine mounts and adjustable transmission mounts for T-5, TKO, T56, AOD and other transmissions standard. Elegant truss-style frame section is visible when the car is used without engine side covers.
47
‘33 Hot Rod Running Gear Bolt-in Your Engine, Transmission, and Rear End. The Factory Five ‘33 Hot Rod is designed to use small block V-8 power, a wide range transmissions, and a solid axle Ford rear end. Included in the Hot Rod package are the engine mounts, driveshaft, side exit exhaust, mufflers, and straight tubes with fasteners required to match up to the factory or aftermarket shorty headers. All these parts make installing your running gear easy.
of
Engine The ‘33 Hot Rod is set up to use either Ford or Chevy engines. Choose from small block Ford 289/302, 351, 4.6L engines and the new 5.0L Coyote or the Chevy small block and GM LS series of engines. Transmission The transmissions that you can use include the T-5 (Ford or GM), T56 (Ford or GM), 700R4, 4L60, 4L65 (GM), 2550 TKO, 3550 TKO, or AOD. Others, with minor driveshaft modifications, have installed transmissions such as the TH350, C4, C6, 2004R, 700R4 4L60E, and the TG499. When you order your hot rod, you will select the correct spline driveshaft for your transmission. Rear End: Solid Axle or IRS The car is designed to use a bolt-on Ford 8.8” solid-axle rear-end. You may also install a Ford 9” rear end if it has the 8.8” Mustang suspension mounts added. Factory Five offers an optional independent rear suspension based on the center section and spindles of the 2015 Ford Mustang IRS.
The strong Factory Five ‘33 frame is complimented by a modern race proven suspension and massive brakes. Roll bar is removable and also fits under the removable hard top.

‘33 Hot Rod Suspension/Brakes Making a Hot Rod Drive like a Supercar. The goal of making a modern Hot Rod handle like a well-balanced sports car required more than a well-designed and rigid frame. On the shoulders of our revolutionary ‘33 frame, we placed a state-of-the-art suspension, precise steering, competent brakes, and engineered the vehicle to have a lower center of gravity and excellent front/rear weight distribution. Our engineering team developed an all-new front suspension design and joined it with the proven rear susFactory Five 3-link rear suspension shown. pensions from our Mk4 Roadsters. This new suspension configuration successfully delivers a combination of comfortable ride and superior performance. The tubular control arms are exposed outside of the body while the KONI™ brand cantilever shocks ride in-board and deliver excellent damping. Front Suspension The front suspension is an in-board coil-over design with elegant, yet strong, unequal length upper and lower tubular a-arms and high-end mono-tube adjustable coil-over rod-end KONI shocks. Our rugged front suspension delivers superior handling without the compromises of Mustang II style set-ups and it tells the world that this car does more than go in a straight line. The hot rod is delivered with the entire front suspension, spindles, steering rack, brakes, and fasteners. Rear Suspension There are three available rear suspensions. The proven Factory Five 4-link solid axle rear suspension is standard. The race-proven 3-link solid axle rear suspension is optional. The 3-link rear suspension was lifted directly from our Challenge Series racers, cars that have proven themselves on the track for more than 15 years. The optional independent rear suspension delivers the smoothest ride combined with the highest performance envelope. Steering/Brakes A high quality Unisteer™ rack and pinion manual steering rack is standard. Front brakes are standard 2000 Ford Mustang GT brakes with 11” rotors and aluminum two-piston PBR calipers. Rear brakes are optional since many people obtain rear ends with brake assemblies.

‘33 Hot Rod Body/Exterior Period Correct American Hot Rod Art. Massive wheel wells, a steeply raked nose, and a lower and wider stance than any original ‘33 tells the world that this car is meant to be driven! The Factory Five ‘33 body is 3” wider than the original, has enlarged rear wheel wells, and rides lower to the ground. The body is engineered to mount easily to the strong steel and aluminum FFR chassis. The hood, doors, trunk, and optional hard top have molded liners and come complete with hinges that mount to the chassis.
Expensive exterior trim items are all standard. You get head lamps, tail lights/turn signals, license plate bracket and light, cast aluminum grill, badges, side view mirrors, trunk handles and hinges, full-width removable roll bar, and polished slide-in roadster windshield.
All lighting, glass and latches are DOT-approved components.
The composite body is hand-laid vinylester fiberglass. The one-piece, construction is 3/16” uniform thickness with approximately .015” coat of black gel coat outer finish.
50
The curb weight of the car with a small block Ford V-8 and a manual 5-speed transmission is 2,150 lbs.
Customize your Factory Five! Roadster, coupe, hard top or convertible, full fenders, bike fenders, or no fenders street-fighter. We designed removable engine side covers, a removable hard-top with a separate slide-in windshield, and two different sets of removable fenders (full fenders with running boards and smaller bike fenders).
Cool details like LED tail lights and fuel cap that is concealed inside the trunk lip make the car a true custom.
The high-performance KONI™ coil-over shocks are concealed and the tubular control arms are visible for a clean look.
Complete exhaust system is polished stainless steel and standard with mufflers and side exit tips. Rear exit exhaust is an affordable option.

Type 65 Coupe The Best of 1965 and Today
62
There were only six original Coupes ever made. Those cars captured the 1965 FIA World Championship for America in the last years before mega-money took American roadracing from its roots and from the average guy. Despite the fact that the design never entered production, those six cars, hand-built upon 289 AC chassis, are some of the most valuable collector cars on the planet. Each of the original six Daytona Coupes is valued at more than $8 million. More importanly than the money, these cars have became symbolic of the end of an era. This car is one of the most unique and stunning shapes in automotive history. Even today, more than 50 years later, the muscular lines and aggressive stance has no equal. There is perhaps no other car more capable of making a Corvette driver appear to be wearing a skirt. While the dramatic design makes people stop and stare, only the hard-core car guys know its full history. You won’t see three of them lined up at your local Starbucks, and even at car shows these Factory Fives are rare birds. It is certainly not a car for everyone, but it is definitely the only car for some. Each Factory Five Type 65 Coupe is true to the road racing legacy that gave the design its birth, and yet with modern engineering and technol-
ogies, our cars are much more livable than the originals. Of all our designs, the Coupe is my favorite. I have one parked at home in my garage. I have raced it at tracks around the country and drive it on the street here in New England. It makes me feel like Dan Gurney when I drive it, and my wife wrinkles her nose and says it smells like gas when I make her ride in it with me … a man cannot ask more of a car. Dave Smith President
“Of course you can’t drive an original Daytona Coupe, they’re priceless. Pete Brock told us himself that the Factory Five version is as good as it gets when it comes to replicas. That’s good enough for us.” Brandon Gillogly Journalist, Hot Rod Magazine

63
The Best of 1965 and Today The Type 65 Coupe is designed to be an accurate replica of the original 1965 World Championship Daytona Coupe. The Factory Five Type 65 Coupe captures the look and feel of the original 200 mph GT cars, but as with all Factory Five designs, it is more reliable and comfortable. Just like our Mk4 Roadster, the Coupe can be built two ways. You can buy a base kit that is “donor Mustang capable,” or you can buy the complete kit that gives you just about every nut and bolt you need to build the car (except engine/ transmission/rear-end, wheels/tires, and paint).
64
Base Kit - $15,990
Complete Kit - $20,990
The Type 65 Coupe base kit is based on the innovation of using running gear from a single donor vehicle — namely, the high-performance Ford Mustang. The concept was, and still is, so simple. If you have our base kit and running gear parts from a 1987-1993 Mustang GT donor car, you already have all the parts you need to build and drive your car!
Over the years we have expanded our chassis kit to include factory-new parts as well. Our complete kit comes with all-new parts. The only things you’ll need to add are your own engine/ transmission/rear end, wheels/tires, and paint.
Aluminum Chassis Panels Right Materials, Made Right, Here in the USA. While our talented engineering staff uses advanced computer CAD designs right up front, our manufacturing team finishes the job by using the right materials, tools and training to build a better part. Not only does Factory Five lead the component car industry in engineering technology, we set the bar just as high in manufacturing. The Type 65 Coupe is made in our factory in New England, not Taiwan or South Africa. The end result of all this work is that this most American of cars is made by American craftsmen using the right tools, and the right materials, the right way. Right: Our CNC laser cutting machine ensures perfect cuts on our aluminum and steel pieces.
The chassis assembly area is where the welded frames meet formed aluminum panels and gel-coated composite bodies to be mounted for shipping.
65
Type 65 Coupe Frame
Our welded parts are made in the USA with American labor.
Authentic Design/Modern Engineering. The Factory Five Racing Type 65 Coupe frame is the heart of the kit. It is computer designed to be extremely strong yet maintain the beauty and elegance of early 1960s race car frame designs. The frame weighs about 300 lbs. and is shipped as part of an assembled chassis kit, ready to accept bolt-on components. The frame is a completely welded assembly and is delivered in bare steel or with an optional gloss black powdercoating. Each of the six original Coupes were built on vintage AC chassis. Racing rules changed at the end of the 1964 season to allow for the “modification” of the exterior body shape, while using the same frame/chassis of an existing homologated design. Just like the original, we too built our Coupe upon the strong foundation of a modified Mk4 chassis.
“...Galloping to 60 mph takes only 3.6 seconds. Bye-bye Porsche 911! The quarter mile passes in only 11.9 seconds at 119 mph, faster than a Dodge Viper GTS...”
Integrated 6-point roll cage with cross-bar.
Larry Webster, Technical Editor
Front nose, doors and rear hatch all hinge from frame, not fiberglass body.
Front X-member not as shown. Current revision is a more elegant round tubing design.
Convenient tow strap hook and safety skid plates.
To make a better frame, you need to start with better materials. In the Coupe we use certified materials. Plate steel is laser-cut Type A-36. Round tubing is DOM (drawn over mandrel). All 66 tubing is high-quality, mild carbon steel.
Period correct 4” round tube with increased 0.120” wall DOM main rails (up from 0.095” in original cars).
The Factory Five Mk4 frame is computer designed on Solidworks™ software using Hewlett Packard workstations. Harness mounts to round tubing behind the shoulders and to welded-in 3/16” plate steel mounts on the floors.
Front and rear energy absorbing crumple zones help protect occupants.
NASA and SCCA Racing derived footbox protection and cockpit steel surround.
In-house manufacturing controls help maintain quality and reproducibility. For example, our welders all use the same Millermatic™ 250 MIG welding machines. Standardized equipment is part of a comprehensive quality manufacturing program.
Pre-welded suspension, engine and transmission mount points for bolt-on components.

Type 65 Coupe Suspension & Brakes The Type 65 Coupe features the same proven suspension parts and geometry as the Factory Five Mk4 Roadster. Front Suspension Base Kit • Fully independent front suspension with unequal length upper and lower A-arms • High-end Koni mono-tube adjustable coil-over rod-end shocks • Uses donor Mustang front lower arms, spindles, and brakes • Optional tubular steel lower control arms Front Suspension Complete Kit • The Factory Five Racing Type 65 Coupe complete kit includes the entire front suspension assembly and Ford brakes. • Includes Ford GT brakes with 11” rotors, twin piston calipers, and stainless steel brake lines, fittings, and fasteners • Includes brand-new spindles and tubular control arms The Type 65 Coupe kit is delivered ready to accept bolt-on rear suspension components in one of three rear suspension configurations: 1. Four-Link Rear Suspension Our standard 4-link suspension comes with custom anti-squat geometry and ready to accept Ford Mustang 8.8” solid axle donor rear suspension parts. The standard 4-link rear suspension is a great performance street car suspension. 2. Three-Link Rear Suspension The upgraded 3-link rear suspension is standard in Type 65 Coupe complete kit. It includes the frame brackets, panhard rod, control arms, coil-over shocks and springs. The IRS option for the Type 65 Coupe kit requires the 8.8” center section, rear spindles, and brakes from a 2015 Ford Mustang. Brakes/Wheels Like the Mk4, the base Type 65 Coupe kit uses the rear end and brakes from a 1987-2004 Mustang donor car. The Type 65 Coupe complete kit comes with brand-new front brakes including S/N 95 style spindles and Ford GT 11” front rotors with twin piston PBR aluminum calipers. We offer a range of optional Halibrand replica wheels that are affordably priced and in the correct sizes/backspaces to work with our cars.
68
The optional Independent Rear Suspension is designed to use 2015 and later Ford Mustang center section and brakes.
On September 17th, 2008, a Factory Five Type 65 Coupe driven by Corey Bligh for SoFast Racing broke the landspeed world record for Class C Blown Fuel Modified Sports at 216.9 MPH on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

Type 65 Coupe Body/Exterior Best Looking Coupe with All the Right Details. The Coupe is an extremely unique design and car. The need for authenticity makes the exterior components and trim even more important. When you look closely, you’ll find that our Coupe stays faithful to the original car from the main body shape all the way down to the smallest of details. The body shape and style was an accident … a lucky one. We started out to make an authentic 90” wheelbase Coupe, using our Roadster chassis and pick-up points for reference. That first 90” wheelbase
prototype was simply too small. So we made the difficult decision to increase the vehicle dimensions. But we didn’t simply stretch the wheelbase, rather we enlarged the entire vehicle about 6 percent to maintain proper scale. The result was a jaw dropper! The truth is the car simply looks right. It looks better than the original car and it’s also sleeker and more attractive than any of the three or four replicas out there that all seem to miss the mark by some distance — we nailed it.
Modern DOT safety glass front windshield and rear hatch. Authentic body style with original design nose/radiator vent, hood bulge, rear brake ducts and radical angled rear clip.
Hand-laid vinylester composite body complete with hinged doors and front hinged nose. Lamination thickness is approx. 3/16” all around with .015” coat of gel coat 70 outer finish.
Original British style lighting package includes headlamps with small amber turn signals, front fog lamps, Lucas twin filament red taillamps, and license plate bracket/light.
“There’s something magical about having a racecar on the street. It’s enough to make anyone a little giddy, and the beauty of this beast is that all you need to do to make the illusion a reality is strap on a helmet and take it to the track.” Lexan sliding side windows, rear quarter windows, and metal framed and hinged rear glass hatch.
Scott Lear, Journalist, Grassroots Motorsports Magazine Original chrome “Bullet style” racing mirror and windshield mounted rear view mirror.
Side louvers and rear brake vent mesh.
Wheels/Tires: Wide variety of vintage and modern wheels are available. Optional 15” pin drive FIA style wheels shown.
High quality hood hinge with hydraulic piston supports, chromed vintage side bonnet latches and DOT-approved door latches.
Authentic and functional aero parts include set of the original style air scoops, brake ducts, mesh, and rear spoiler.
Externally mounted and shielded fuel tank with internal fuel pump shut-off switch.

Type 65 Coupe Interior All Business at the Helm. The Coupe interior was designed to capture the essence of the original car, yet improve on things like ergonomics, cockpit space, and sound/heat management. We kept the interior period correct and functional like its forbearer, however we designed in modern comfort and controls like supportive seating, air conditioning, and improved visibility. All these things combine to enhance the driving experience rather than affect it. The kits come with a complete interior and include quality items like the original style bucket seats. Vintage details abound, like our beautiful wood and aluminum steering wheel and safety items like the heart-attack serious racecage, and five-point racing harnesses for passenger and driver round out a nice package. Jack Roush signs the dash of the Factory Five-Ford Champ Car Coupe.
72
The clean lines and purposeful interior complement the vintage design of the car and underscore its serious purpose.

GTM Supercar The Fastest Car You Will Ever Build in Your Garage
80
For more than 20 years we have been at the forefront of the component car industry with our famous Roadsters and Coupes. In fact today, if you see a Cobra Replica out on the road, it is most likely a Factory Five. While the satisfaction of that accomplishment is tremendous, we wanted to make our own original design. The risks of designing our own supercar were huge. Automotive history has many examples of small companies whose reach exceeded their grasp. Companies like Tucker, Bricklin, DeLorean, Vector, and others had great ideas, but lacked the resources to fully execute. So it was with great care and planning that we designed the GTM over the process of five years. We designed the GTM as a direct challenge to people like Ferrari dealers, who with manicured fingernails and straight faces, charge people a premium to be on a waiting list, to join an exclusive club of unfriendly people who rarely drive their cars. We designed the GTM out of real pride, patriotism, and conceit. We wanted to show the world what we were capable of and we wanted to build a car that would kick everyone else’s arse.
The GTM is our flagship supercar, and has come to symbolize our technological abilities. The car is drop-dead gorgeous and it runs with the very fastest supercars on the planet. Every drive in a GTM is accompanied by camera phones stuck out the window of other cars and thumbs up from other drivers. More than the rock star looks, this car is simply the most brutally fast machine you will ever build.
“Fitted with a 400 HP LS6 engine, it goes ballistic in a blink, rocketing 0-60 in 3.2 seconds... Corvette brakes bring the GTM to a clenching hault in only 111 feet from 60 MPH. Street tires deliver 1.05 Gs on the skid pad!” Vette Magazine
Above: Mike McGovern, Chief Instructor at the Bondurant School, puts the GTM through paces during development.
81
GTM Supercar Kit The GTM Supercar kit is engineered to be built by a person at home with regular tools. The GTM kit gives you everything you need to build your car, except for running gear parts taken from a 1997-2004 Chevrolet C5 Corvette and a transaxle. The major Corvette parts include the engine, front and rear control arms, suspension/brakes, and fuel tanks. The transaxle used is a Porsche 911 unit or a Mendeola 5 speed.
“...the car trips to 60 MPH in three seconds flat and clears the quarter-mile in 11.0 seconds at 132 miles per hour. And that, amigos, is quicker than a Porsche Carrera GT, a Ferrari 599 Fiorano, and a Z06 Corvette.” Larry Webster Technical Editor
The entire cockpit, front under bonnet area, engine bay, and splash guards are made from CNC precision-cut 6061-T6 aluminum.
82
The chassis assembly area is where welded frames meet formed aluminum panels and gel-coated composite bodies to be mounted for shipping.
GTM Aluminum Chassis Panels Aluminum Under Glass. The Factory Five GTM uses an ultra-strong space frame and is joined by a matrix of aluminum sub-frame panels to complete a true race-car construction. Built on the strong foundation of this tough chassis is a four corner coil-over shock suspension with unequal length control arms and massive Corvette brakes. The composite body rests on top of this chassis and is a separate unstressed assembly.
“I was enamored with the GTM’s power-to-weight ratio, exemplary road manners and handling composure, reasonably comfortable interior, and down right sexy looks. Factor in the affordable entry price and the reliable C5 mechanicals and the GTM becomes a refreshingly simple, attainable, and even practical alternative to today’s mainstream supercars.” Corvette Magazine

GTM Supercar Frame
Our welded parts are made in the USA with American labor.
Modern Design and Engineering At the very core of the GTM Supercar is a computer designed, ultra-rigid space-frame. The frame is made of mig-welded, high strength mild carbon steel tubing and plate steel. This special design incorporates a low center of gravity, high torsional rigidity, and solid safety features that delivers true supercar performance in a safe and secure vehicle design.
The GTM chassis has the highest torsional rigidity of all Factory Five frames and was designed/ tested in CAD and in the real world.
Front nose, doors and rear hatch all hinge from frame, fiberglass body.
Front and rear energy absorbing crumple zones help protect occupants.
84
Pre-welded hinge and latch points, seat belt mounts, shift linkage, steering rack/ column, and pedal box assembly make your build a bolt-on exercise.
CAD designed/ultra-rigid chassis: The GTM frame was the first Factory Five design to fully utilize SolidWorks CAD software. The chassis, welding jig, cut list, bill of materials, and strength testing were all performed on the computer before parts were made.
The Factory Five Mk4 frame is computer designed on Solidworks™ software using Hewlett Packard workstations.
“Perhaps the best part of the GTM is that after blowing off pedigreed cars during a track day, the owner can make a boast no one else can: ‘I built it.’” Larry Webster Editor, Car & Driver Magazine The foundation of the GTM is a sophisticated space-frame. The frame is delivered completely welded as shown here powdercoated gloss black.
Tubular steel space-frame design incorporates full roll cage, side impact protection, and backbone construction for exceptional strength.
Removable rear transmission mount (not shown) bolts to rear frame and makes transmission changes easy on completed vehicle.
Pre-welded engine, transmission, and suspension mount points are ready for bolt-on C5 Corvette running gear.
Flat steel floor pans compliment sheet aluminum to deliver aerodynamic undercarriage.
Side impact protection includes steel door frames (not shown) and DOT door latches.
Mid-engine design: The GTM chassis benefits from being a mid-engine design with a low center of gravity and excellent weight distribution. By utilizing a mid-engine layout, the engineering team was able to increase cockpit space with this ideal chassis/engine layout.
85
GTM Supercar Suspension/Brakes Competition Capable and Fully Streetable. We’ve already proven the GTM suspension in conditions more demanding than you ever will. We’ve competed in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill for more than five years. The GTM was developed and tested on the racetrack, at the dragstrip, at autocrosses, and ultimately in the real world out on the streets. The complement to a lightweight and rigid chassis is a well developed suspension. Our engineering team applied the lessons they learned developing and racing in the Factory Five Challenge Series to design a world-class suspension for the GTM. We selected the tough and lightweight aluminum Corvette control arms and matched them to proprietary frequency selective damping coil-over shocks and springs developed with the team at KONI Shocks. The FSD KONIs deliver razor sharp handling at modest speeds, while maintaining Supercar manners at Supercar pace.
86
GTM Supercar Interior Comfort and Control. The GTM kit comes with a complete interior including, sport seats, carpeting, headliner, roll cage covers, covered interior panels, door panels, engine cover, rear bulkhead, dash assembly, carbon fiber dash face, complete gauge set, and directional vents for heating and cooling. Covered interior pieces contrast with the carbon fiber gauge pod and functionally elegant layout of the interior. Everyone asks, “Do I fit?” For a car that is only 42” high, the cockpit space is remarkable. Sitting in the car you’ll find a large and quiet cockpit with good front and rear visibility and modern temperature controls. Following a careful entry and exit, you’ll find head-room, legroom and front/rear visibility that is surprisingly well executed. An elegant and simple interior focuses the driver on the serious job at hand. Above: The GTM is designed to accept GM LS series engines. From the proven 350 HP LS1 to the potent 430 HP LS3s and 500+ HP LS7s.
The GTM interior is simple and functional communicating the car’s pure performance mission.
87
GTM Supercar Body/Exterior Performance Automotive Art. The GTM has pure supercar lines. Low, menacing and powerful… those are the words that come to mind when one sees the GTM in person for the first time. But looks have to support function. No matter how fast a sports car is, it has to look good. That’s why we developed this shape in the wind tunnel and at speed on countless racetracks over a process of five years.
The GTM curb weight is a remarkable 2,350 lbs. The combination of low weight, high HP, and ultra rigid chassis delivers supercar performance.
Gen 2 hood vents improve cooling and contribute significantly to downforce.
Optional carbon fiber front splitter increases downforce for race applications. Rear carbon fiber diffuser is standard. Sealed headlamp buckets and DOT-compliant headlights, taillights, and turn signals.
88
Optional roof scoop provides fresh air to engine compartment.
“...if you even look at the gas pedal, it will flatten your face in an instant. Rob Kinnan Hot Rod Magazine
Production car details abound on the GTM with items like hinged rear glass hatch, power glass side windows, and closed head lamp buckets.
The Gen 1 GTM (shown above) testing at Langley Air Force Base windtunnel.
OEM C5 Corvette side view mirrors and door handles contribute production car details.
Non-stressed composite body shape. Doors, front bonnet, and rear hatch all hinge to steel frame.
Performance wheels and tires provide Supercar stance. 245/35/19s up front and massive 325/25/20s in back.

Based on tough Subaru Impreza/WRX running gear, the 818 is an ultra-light, ultra-modern, computer-designed, two-seater, mid-engine sports car priced under 10 grand! Engineered to be built... the 818 is all about doing more for less.
The 818 is also about choices. With the same base chassis, you can build an affordable roadster street car (818S), an all-weather daily driver capable coupe (818C), or a full-on competition track day model (818R). Three great cars from the same base platform!
“It rips the tires loose in pit lane on a whisper of throttle. Forget the WRX. Forget every street car you’ve ever driven. This is something else. Jack Baruth Road & Track Magazine

The Theory of the 818 Most of us grew up with V8-powered American muscle cars, and our company is famous for our Hot Rods and Roadsters. But there is a whole new generation of younger car builders, and a global community of people who want to build a Factory Five, and the 818 was built for them. The newest Factory Five was designed to bring the Factory Five build experience to a new generation and to make it easy to build a Factory Five in countries around the world. The Factory Five 818 is an affordable two-seater, mid-engined car that is a modern original design rather than a vintage replica. The 818 has running gear that can be found anywhere on the planet and can be built in both right-hand and lefthand drive configurations. Factory Five is famous for our strong and light chassis, and the 818 continues this tradition. Owing to the fact that this is a “world” car, (which means we are designing it to be built in countries all around the world), the running gear had to come from a vehicle that is available in most countries on the planet. This is one reason why the Subaru running gear makes sense. The Subaru engine is a longitudinal mid-mounted flat four with a transaxle attached. It gives fantastic balance, low center of gravity, and most importantly, a very low total vehicle weight. Subaru is known for making big power reliably, the aftermarket is enormous, and the customer base is strong and passionate. The 818 is about handling and driving fun. The newest Factory Five has already become one of our most popular, and has attracted a whole new generation of car builders.

818S - $9,990 The 818S is a well-engineered, easy to build street car with the performance of a supercar for one-tenth the cost!
818R - $10,990 The 818R is the competition version of the 818S. Run 56 seconds at Lime Rock and close to two minutes flat at Watkins Glen! The 818R has a full race cage, race seat, and adjustable KONI shocks. Optional aero and brake packages available.
818C - $12,990 The 818C is based on the 818S chassis, but incorporates a new removable hard top with interior bulk head, power side windows, rear glass hatch, and rear glass quarter windows. A revised front end includes new fenders, 3D-printed head99 lamp bucket and revised headlight design, nose, and grill (standard now in all 818 designs).
818 Frame Two Chassis/Three Models. Key to the 818 is its rigid but lightweight tubular steel chassis, completely designed and tested on the latest version of SolidWorks software and countless hours on the track. The 818S and 818C share the same street chassis (functional doors). The 818R frame (below) adds a full race cage and side impact tubing. Integrated into this space-frame chassis is rollover protection and side impact structure as well as front and rear crumple zones. The chassis is designed to be as rigid as possible while still maintaining a low overall weight and low center of gravity. The chassis comes finish-welded with all mounting brackets and tabs in place and is available with optional gloss-black powder coating.
“Factory Five’s newest offering is a credible alternative to the Lotus Exige S or Porsche Boxster Spyder.” Jack Baruth Road & Track Magazine
World Car: The 818S, 818R, and 818C are available in either righthand or left-hand drive configurations. The frame shown is for the 818R. It is the same as the frame for the 818S and 818C with the addition of several cross members to meet NASA and SCCA safety standards for the track.
High-quality CNC-precision cut plate steel and tubing combine for a lightweight, but rigid and safe chassis.
Hood, doors, and rear hatch are mounted/hinged to the structural frame, not to the fiberglass.
Removable front section allows radiator mounting and quarter panel installation.
100
Right: 818S and 818C Frame: Differences from the R model frame are the functional doors with hinges and side impact tubing. Also, street roll bar with seat belt mounts.
818R frame includes full race cage for competition. 818C hard top and 818S soft top do not clear the competition roll cage of the 818R. Driver and passenger roll over protection with full width roll cage (818R) or roll bar (818S and 818C).
Front and rear energy absorbing crumple zones protect the driver and passenger.
Flat lower surfaces allows sheeted aluminum undercarriage for improved aerodynamics.
Engine and transmission mounts accomodate Subaru Impreza, WRX Turbo, STi, and BRZ engines. Coming soon Ford EcoBoost 2.3L 4-cylinder Turbo. 101
818 Running Gear, Suspension, & Brakes Running Gear. As much of the donor car as possible was used in the design of the 818 in order to keep build cost low. The unique layout of the Impreza allows for the entire engine and transaxle unit to be moved to the rear of the car and used to drive the rear wheels with a simple locking collar installed in place of the center differential. This longitudinal mid-mounted flat four gives excellent balance from being both low-slung and mounted behind the driver’s compartment. In addition to the drivetrain, all of the steering, cooling and braking systems are retained from the Impreza donor vehicle.
“The kit costs $9,990, so even with an unreasonably cherry WRX donor, the bang for the buck is hard to beat: a Porsche 911 Turbo’s power-to-weight ratio for the price of a well-used Boxster.” Ezra Dyer Automobile Magazine
Suspension and Brakes. The suspension on the 818 utilizes the spindles, brakes, and control arms from the Impreza/WRX donor car. We provide front upper A-arms and four corner KONI coil-over shocks. The muti-link rear suspension is standard, and the suspension geometry has been optimized for the wheelbase, center of gravity, and weight distribution of the chassis. The 818 suspension delivers exceptional handling yet still maintains a streetable ride quality. The 818 uses factory wheel and tires sizes. We offer upgraded performance shocks, Wilwood brakes, and affordable, high-performance wheel options.
102
818R with optional wheels, Wilwood brakes, and carbon aero parts.
818 Interior and Trim Simple, Purposeful, and Elegant. The 818 is a small car with a large cockpit that accommodates drivers up to 6’4. The seating position is low, and there is a good amount of leg room. The car uses the Subaru Impreza gauge pod and the kit includes OEM-styled ABS formed interior door panels, dash, and center console with shifter assembly, and e-brake adapter. Options include padded interior, upgraded shifter, seat choices, soft top, and removable hard top. The 818R does not have functional doors/door panels. Street windshield and surround is standard on the 818S and 818C. 818R includes a competition windshield. All 818 kits include lights, latches, and trim. Above: 818R interior (passenger bar and fuel cell are not standard). Below: 818S and 818C interior uses Subaru gauge pod. Finished with dash, door panels, and custom seats.
103
818C Body/Exterior The 818 is the first Factory Five car fully developed on the computer. The body shape began in a variety of ways, from CAD files and renderings to scans of existing shapes, and the final 818 body shape came from a full digital file, integrated with the chassis, and output to CNC-milled production tooling. This fully digitized shape is a true first for Factory Five and delivers tight tolerance parts that don’t need a lot of body work. Instead of a one-piece body, it is configured as a set of smaller panels that only require one-piece molds. This means that most 818 panels are free from mold parting lines commonly seen on other fiberglass bodies. This allows us to provide panels needing little-to-no paint or prep work. Body panels are produced in a UV resistant, gloss-red gelcoat that, with a small amount of buffing, looks just like a painted finish.
Functional roof scoop with integral inner liner provides cool air to the engine bay.
The 818 composite body is made of individual panels like a modern car requiring little body work. Note: Removable hard top and new fender designs have seams that require body work.
Modern DOT-compliant projector head lamps and lighting.
Revised front fenders and nose (shown) are now standard on all 818 models. Optional Factory Five 818 wheels are DOT safe, and affordable. Recommended tires are 215/45/R17 in front and 255/35/R18 in rear.
104
With a wheelbase of 96 and a wide 59 track, the car sits long, low, and wide.
The Factory Five 818 won Sony’s Gran Turismo Award for “Best Domestic Automobile,” SEMA 2013.
Removable hard top is standard in the 818C and is optional on the 818S. Includes power side windows, glass quarter windows, bulk head with glass window, and hinged glass rear hatch.
Optional carbon fiber rear spoiler and carbon fiber front splitter shown.
Wind tunnel tested composite body shape aids in cooling, and the sheet aluminum under carriage with rear diffuser provides low lift.
Functional side intake vents provide cooling for mid-engine placement.
Flush mount fuel filler cap gives a modern look and the 14 gallon standard fuel tank provides excellent range.

FFR customer David Borden on his way to winning SCCA Autocross Division Championship (Northern California Region) and third place SCCA National Autocross overall.
“It’s pretty obvious that Factory Five is in another league, rising far above the stigma that has befallen kit cars since those dark days of the VW bug-based trash that belittled the genre. It really doesn’t get much easier, considering you’re building a car from scratch.”
The GTM has won NASA and SCCA titles on the track and “Best in Show” awards at the annual SEMA industry show.
