Royal Excess at Nocturne’s Late-Night Rendezvous
Summertime Serenade with Alicia Olatuja Mark your calendars for July 17 when standout jazz singer Alicia Olatuja will wow the crowd with her soulful melodies at Faena Theater.
Let the bubbly flow, Faena Theater invites you to French Kiss on July 13, an after-hours performancedriven fete colored by aristocratic pomp and whimsy that would make even Marie Antoinette jealous. Call your corsetiere, don your tulle, and party like it’s your very own palace. Inspired by the balls and baubles of Versailles, this decadent event is fit for a queen and her king. Blurring the lines between artist and audience, Nocturne combines cirque nouveau, Burning Man spirit and Magic City pageantry. Revelers will find themselves spinning among a flirtatious court of burlesque performers dressed in haute couture and swinging from cyr wheels, whirling fire and twisting into unbelievable poses. Lose yourself in a riot of revealing frocks, rococo frills, ruffles and lace, while seductive vignettes unfold under spotlights and amidst the crowd, taking the evening on unexpected twists and turns. Provocative tracks will be spun by DJ Dude Skywalker while amorous vocals from sirens Yoli Mayor and Envee paired with electric string instruments keep the crowd dancing well into the night. Adorn your most spectacular finery—a highborn madam or monsieur is never to be out dressed. Tickets start at $30 and are available at www.faenatheater.com. Miami Swim Week at Faena Bazaar
Faena continues to disrupt the standard shopping experience and global brands are following its lead. Fashion innovators UBM and Maris Collective are teaming up to launch Destination Miami, a new tradeshow concept for Miami Swim Week, that will take over Faena Bazaar for the duration of the show. July 13 to 16, Destination Miami will bring together 50 hand-selected brands that express the essence of the global travel lifestyle and merchandise them in an environment that defies traditional tradeshow booths, much like Faena Bazaar challenges the notion of a cookie-cutter shopping mall. Maris Collective has worked with Coterie to showcase brands in new way, where buyers can browse items as a customer would. At Destination Miami, buyers can see designer collections visually merchandised in creative ways, participate in lectures and enjoy experiences that will ultimately help drive business for their clients. The immersive show will focus on new international designers and a curated selection of cross-category lifestyle merchandise from resort wear and swimwear to accessories. “During Swim Week, Faena will be the home base for all things fashion, style and fun,” says LeeAnn Sauter, CEO and Founder of Maris Collective. “Throughout the day, premium buyers will head to the Bazaar to explore four floors styled with one-of-a-kind luxury fashions, while Faena Hotel will host a shoppable experience throughout the property. After the sun sets, Destination Miami will be abuzz with media and influencers attending branded events for those in the fashion world.”
PARTY AT FAENA’S POOLSIDE POP-UPS Get in on the Miami Swim Week action as Faena Hotel Miami Beach comes alive with designer-hosted pool parties, fashion shows, pop-ups, cabana bashes and cocktail affairs. Miami Swim Week’s center of gravity is leaning towards the Faena District. The annual event, taking place July 11 to 16, is the largest platform in the world for swim and resort wear. This year, Coterie’s sexy new tradeshow, Destination Miami, will move into Faena Bazaar for the week, while top designers from the Bazaar will host a vibrant calendar of exclusive fashion events typically reserved only for fashion buyers and industry professionals.

Achieve Pampered Perfection During Miami Spa Months SUN PROTECTION
Throughout the swelter of deep summer, Tierra Santa Healing House participates in Miami Spa Month, offering irresistible discounts on select spa treatments that will refresh and reconnect you with the harmony of the universe.
VIBE UP YOUR GUEST ROOM Cleanse your body and your guest room when checking into Faena Hotel Miami Beach. Tierra Santa Healing House offers an array of in-room spa experiences that combat jet lag and clear the space of stale energy.
BY DR. ROBERTA DEL CAMPO TIERRA SANTA HEALING HOUSE WELLNESS COLLABORATOR Summer is here and Miami is heating up! That means more fun in the sun which means we have to be extra careful about sun protection. Many of us don't know the difference between UVA and UVB but we know the most damaging rays to our skin are called ultraviolet (UV) rays. There are two basic types of ultraviolet rays that reach the earth’s surface—UVB and UVA. UVB rays are responsible for producing sunburn. The UVB rays also play the greatest role in causing skin cancers, including the deadly form, melanoma. UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the skin and play a greater role in premature skin aging changes, including wrinkle formation (photoaging.) There are approximately 500 times more UVA rays in sunlight than UVB rays. Therefore, in addition to protecting your skin from the effects of UVB rays, it is also very important to protect from the damaging effects of the more numerous UVA rays. Mineral-based sunblocks, including those with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, are my sunblocks of choice as they reflect the sunlight giving better protection. It is recommended that you reapply every 2 hours at a minimum but more often if you are exposed to water or sweat. SPF clothing is also a great addition. Protect yourself and enjoy the Miami summer!
To book a consultation with Dr. Del Campo, please email spamiami@faena. com or call 786 655 5570. In-house guests may dial Tierra Santa at 3217 for more information.

Summer Getaway in Tierra Santa
Tierra Santa is shaking up its seasonal wellness events with a fashion-forward Swim Week pop-up and a Daybreaker dance party. Plus, a calendar of healing workshops and a full moon mediation will saturate your summer with zen.
From July through September, your every indulgence is doubly rewarded—each soothing treatment features a complimentary Twin Hearts meditation, as well as a day pas to Faena’s exclusive beach club. Allow our talented practitioners to relax your body and connect with your soul, either as a solo experience or part of a couple’s retreat. Exclusively for Miami Spa Months, Tierra Santa is offering a unique Sacred Warrior treatment ($199), which begins with the cleansing, aromatic smoke of Palo Santo and the vibrational hum of sound bowls to synchronize your internal frequencies. Next, a body work therapy combines Pranic Healing and a nourishing massage with virgin coconut oil—venerated throughout South America for its regenerative properties as the “Oil of Life.” The treatment – part of Tierra Santa’s exclusive menu of “unique healing arts” – is designed to remove stagnant energy and bring the chakras into powerful alignment. A new Thai massage ($199) will be inaugurated during Spa Month and will remain on Tierra Santa’s menu moving forward. The ancient modality employs a deep acu-
pressure-style massage while the guest is fully-clothed. Unlike a traditional massage using oils, the therapists will use their hands, elbows, feet and legs to guide the body into a series of graceful stretches to relieve tension and improve flexibility and range of motion. If you’re overdue for your summer facial, visit Tierra Santa’s expert estheticians for a Faena Customized Facial ($139) or visit the Rossano Ferretti salon for an intense moisturizing hair mask and a stylish blow dry ($109). All Miami Spa Month specials come with a complimentary meditation on the date of your scheduled treatment. Then on July 11, certified leader Eric Lopez will host a Shamanic Family Constellations Workshop, through which participants will tackle anxiety and emotional distress relative to generations of unconscious familial trauma using group therapy methods developed the renowned psychotherapist, Bert Hellinger. The weekend of July 13, Spa Director Agustina Caminos will lead a two-day Basic Pranic Healing Course, guiding participants to sink deeper into their spiritual core, renew prana and boost vital energy. From July 13 to 16, spa guests can partake in some retail therapy with a Swim Week pop-up hosted by designer Carolina K. While perusing the latest in swim and resort wear, guests will have the opportunity to chat with emerging and established designers, sip on freshly-muddled cocktails and snack on light bites at the spa’s colorful Living Room and ocean view terrace. Closing out the month on a high note, Tierra Santa Healing House is collaborating on a DUSK edition of Daybreaker Miami on July 28. Daybreaker, the famous global dance movement, will take over Faena Theater after a sunset beach yoga and meditation session with Caminos followed by a drums procession led by Jared Bistrong. Guests will then crowd into the red-velvet theater to dose up on dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins while dancing with reckless abandon to the beats of a live DJ.

Fired Up It’s officially summertime, and Chef Paul Qui and his culinary team are firing up their grills for a Texas-style barbecue. Join us on Pao’s ocean-view terrace for an omakase cookout that will sizzle your senses. This isn’t your average burgers and dogs kind of barbecue. You’re in for ribs, brisket, chicken and crab prepared in creative ways by James Beard award-winning chef Paul Qui. “Chef Qui intertwines his Filipino flavors, and some of his Japanese techniques, with classic Texas BBQ ingredients,” says Benjamin Murry, Pao’s chef de cuisine. “This will definitely give diners flavors they’ve never had before and that’s what makes it so exciting.” Think smoked and charred, tangy and sweet—all the classic foundations and flavors of a southern barbecue—but with interesting twists. The dinner is the latest installment of Pao’s seasonal Omakase Series. In Japan, there is a culinary tradition of ordering ‘omakase,’ a word that literally translates to respectfully leaving another to decide what is best, or in gastronomic terms, chef’s selection. The epicurean adventure will unfold around an intimate

communal table where diners will enjoy a complimentary sake cocktail before diving into a multi-course menu. Binchotan-grilled specialties, inspired by the 2,000-year-old Japanese tradition of charcoal-based cooking, will be paired with optional flights of sake and Japanese whiskey. “Chefs thrive on creating unique dishes, especially for guests that are so open minded when it comes to food,” says Chef Murray. Summer Delight: Getting Lost (or an Alternative Way to Travel) Contrary to the norms of our own time, perhaps the best way to travel is willing to get lost. In Berlin Childhood around 1900, the philosopher Walter Benjamin posited that to really know a city, it’s necessary to get lost in it. To the letter, he wrote in one fragment: "Not to find one's way around a city does not mean much. But to lose one's way in a city, as one loses one's way in a forest, requires some schooling" Benjamin belonged to a time when there was no GPS and perhaps not even tourist maps. Still less were the contemporary obsessions with knowing everything and always being prepared: the best times to visit this or that museum, whether or not it will rain in the summer, or if there’s Uber in a given city, and so on. Instead, Benjamin believed in vagrancy and spontaneity. He trusted in surprise (though that sounds paradoxical) and he knew that frequently, knowledge and experience arise with the unexpected. We remember Benjamin, but we could speak of a tradition of travel offset by the arrival of tourism. The traveler was someone heroic and adventurous, a risk taker, and that's why the contrast is so sharp
with the tourists who plan carefully, who know where to go, what to see, and where to eat. Cuban poet, Jose Lezama Lima, said in an interview that “the journey is to recognize, and to recognize oneself.” And it’s possible that in these two thoughts there is a kind of spiritual brotherhood. The trip is a spatial movement, it’s real, but it’s also symbolic. We move from one place to another but also from one emotional state to another, and from one way of thinking to another. We discover things, our horizons widen, we realize that something that we had believed was true is, perhaps, not so. Why not travel then with a bit of that spirit? Why not exchange a bit of immediacy for the tourist’s desire to control, to get the traveler’s amazement and the unexpected? The question is perhaps even more elemental. Are you willing to travel this way, based on the premise that you need to lose yourself in order to find yourself?

The Best of Buenos Aires
VIVA LA PATRIA! No one does holidays like Faena. To celebrate the finest expression of all things Argentine, head to El Mercado for a taste of the country’s emblematic dishes. Escape the winter chill and bask in the heat of the restaurant’s clay oven wafting with the aroma of freshly-baked empanadas criollas. The traditional treat is stuffed with juicy ground beef, onions, hard-boiled eggs and tasty spices. Hearty bowls of locro—a steaming house-made stew of squash, sweet potato, meat and hominy—will be served, as well as succulent cuts of grilled sirloin, rib-eye and strip steak. Dishes are perfectly paired with Faena’s private label red wines from the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza. For dessert, typical pastelitos filled with quince jam and sugar-dusted churros served with hot chocolate are sure to warm up a winter afternoon spent celebrating family, friends, and freedom.
Faena Hotel Buenos Aires is your gateway to one of the city’s sexiest neighborhoods—Puerto Madero. From its humble past as a once-thriving shipping port at the turn of the century, Puerto Madero later fell into utter disrepair until Alan Faena single-handedly transformed the district into an epicenter of art, culture and luxury hospitality.

notable La Boca neighborhood give way to the bohemian air, cobbled streets and colonial homes of San Telmo. Stroll among neoclassical mansions along Recoleta’s leafy streets, full of posh boutiques, fine art and the famed bookshop Ateneo Grand Splendid. After a day lost in the beauty of Buenos Aires, return to Faena’s fantastical world for a well-mixed cocktail at The Library Lounge, where local rock bands entertain a well-heeled crowd under crystal candelabras. Dine on haute cuisine at Bistro Sur or experience a typical Sunday asado at El Mercado with tender cuts of grass-fed beef paired with robust Malbec wines. It’s International Friendship Day in Argentina on Saturday, July 20, so round up your tribe and make some memories at Faena Hotel Buenos Aires’ Library Lounge. Argentines celebrate Friends Day with as much gusto as lovers do on Valentine’s Day in the United States. It’s a time when groups of friends come together to honor the depth and longevity of their ties that bind. Plans are scheduled, asados are arranged, restaurants and bars book out weeks in advance. In Buenos Aires, pals flock to Faena’s intimate Library Lounge to celebrate in ultimate style with glittering chandeliers, a killer cocktail menu and the best live entertainment in the city. Pop a bottle of top-flight champagne and cheers to old friends and the new ones you may meet on the dance floor.
