Faena Live’s original production—Samsara Cabaret—is a transcendent story about the life, death and rebirth of Artemis, the show’s beautiful heroine, told through music, dance, cirque-arts and sensuality.
Get your wildest costume together. Faena Theater is throwing a late-night dance party on March 22 that’s the antidote to all things ordinary. poses. Evocative vignettes will unfold in dark corners and under spotlights, taking the evening on unexpected twists and turns as heart-pounding beats, uplifting vocals and electric violins command the crowd. The incendiary party series will hinge around a colorful theme (think House of Dolls and Secret Jungle) that will inspire the cocktails, the soundtrack, the performances and the costumes.

Samsara Cabaret’s Stirring Soundtrack
Faena Theater’s Late-Night Dance Party: Nocturne Step into a fantastical world where the lines blur between artist and audience. Part cirque nouveau, part dance rave and part Magic City, the new Nocturne series at Faena Theater is serving up an all-consuming evening of creative bacchanalia. After a showing of its scintillating new revue, Samsara Cabaret, the theater will transform into an immersive nocturnal nightclub where late-night party-goers will find themselves dancing among a parade of scantily-clad burlesque performers swinging from silk ropes, cavorting in cages, spinning fire and contorting into mind-bending

NIGHTLY EVENING ACTS FROM 8:00PM •
February welcomes back some of our favorite live performers and DJs, including Sarah Packiam, American Gipsy, Javier Garcia, Florenza Campos, Yamit and the Vinyl Blvd, Mi Dulce Son, The Usual Suspects Ft. Keba, Jahzel Dotel, Ziggy and the Neptunes, The French Horn Collective, Los Wizzards, Louis Amanti, DJ Funky Therapy, DJ Richie Hell, DJ Mojody, Dj Sire, DJ Ella Romand, DJ Mad Linx, DJ Diego Ciaramella, DJ DiscoRocks, and DJ Fabian Giannattasio, among many others.
“The creation of the show started with the music,” says violinist and composer, Shane Borth. “The soundtrack is the foundation for everything: movement, lighting, flow, etc.” Each song was carefully chosen to shape the identity of each act, creating an emotional voyage for the audience as they watch Artemis transform before their eyes. An eclectic mix of genres, Samsara’s soundtrack weaves pop, rock, EDM, and classical music into unique arrangements, which are both sung and played by gifted vocalists Yoli Mayor and EnVee, drummer Alejandro Zon, and
the electric string duo, cellist Ben Muñoz with Shane Borth on violin. The show begins with ancient and mysterious music that bleeds into the opening line of Sia’s Elastic Heart. “The lyrics, in some cases, literally tell parts of the story,” explains Borth. Hits from Sinead O’Connor to Depeche Mode, and Bach to Metallica piece together a score that provokes emotive associations for guests, allowing them to experience the cabaret in a more personal, visceral way. “Everything is tied together to grasp the audience’s hand and lead them on the journey of
Samsara, where the end is only the beginning.” Samsara Cabaret shows on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Pao is packing a new menu of “perfect bites” with singular ingredients, flavors and textures. Micro-seasonal products inform the rotating recipes that are vegetable, seafood and meat focused. “I’m a big fan of the preserved black truffle nigiri,” says Chef de Cuisine Benjamin Murray. “We preserve truffles for over a month, which top a bite of slow-cooked portobello mushroom, whipped tofu and yuzu kosho. It’s vegan and gluten free!” he says. Also on the menu are Waygu beef tartare with chicharrone, uni toast with lobster aioli, and a Russian Ossetra caviar sandwich. To compliment the bites, Pao offers a range of rotating Japanese whiskey flights like the Toki Highball Press and a flavorful Nikka Coffey Grain Old Fashioned, as well as Japanese sake libations including Sakura Emaki Rose and the fruity Tedorigawa ‘Kinka’ Nama. The dinner menu also got a dose of new dishes. Sunomono combines octopus, smoked

When entrusting the menu to Paul Qui, diners can expect an innovative and surprising selection of Filipino-inflected dishes that showcase the chef’s iconic culinary creativity.Throughout his prolific career, Qui has fused together unpredictable combinations to create flavor-packed tasting plates, which over the years have evolved into one of his trademark specialties. The first in a series of similar sybaritic adventures happening at La Cava monthly throughout the spring, an intimate group of guests will gather around a candlelit communal table in Faena Hotel Miami Beach’s private wine room, to enjoy a multi-course feast that offers the best of Qui’s signature recipes and spontaneous creations. On February 15, Faena Art kicked off its Guest Galleries Series, a rotating gallery pop-up, by unveiling a mural from renowned Argentine artist Juan José Cambre. Multihyphenate Alan Faena believes in the transformative power of the arts and continually seeks to provide a platform to interdisciplinary artists from around the world to showcase their work. In keeping with this commitment, Faena Art partnered with DotFiftyOne, a Miami based gallery that focuses on contemporary Latin American art. Over the course of five days, artist Juan José Cambre painted
a mural in the courtyard of Faena Bazaar, which was unveiled for public viewing during a complimentary sunset cocktail reception. The intimate event celebrated the launch of the organization’s Guest Galleries Series, a free, temporary exhibit in the ground-floor gallery space of Faena’s OMA-designed Bazaar. Guests are invited to peruse additional works from Cambre, as well as Graciela Hasper, whose
monumental mural decorates the Faena Forum, and Colombian artist Gonzalo Funemayor, whose artwork leans towards magic realism.

It all starts with the essentials. That’s what inspired designer Brittany Correy over a decade ago to launch The Lady & The Sailor based on her philosophy that “good basics are the foundation to creating beautifully uncomplicated style.” Carefully and consciously produced using the highest quality textiles in the United States, Correy’s collections, which she describes as “ feminine with a nod to boy,” offer unfussy staples like scooped tanks, linen tees, cotton tunics and lightweight drawstring dresses. Inspired by her own insatiable taste for travel, culture, and all things timeless, her effortlessly elegant clothes are crafted for a well-lived life. As comfortable as they are versatile, her T-shirts can rise to any occasion from a casual beachside brunch to a night of cocktails, when paired with killer stilettos. Over in Spain, Mila and Pedro García are
carrying on a three-generation family business crafting beautiful luxury footwear made by highly-skilled artisans in Elda, Alicante. Always looking to take their designs one step further, the Garcías continually experiment and merge opposing concepts to “spawn new, hybrid silhouettes.” One of their earliest out-ofthe-box pursuits was to decorate flat sandals with Swarovski micropavé crystals which, over time, became a hallmark in the brand’s permanent collection. They also created anatomical soles for high heels, developed rough-hewn finishes on vegetable tanned leather to establish a style of uncooked glamour, and introduced frayed satin, all of which have become trademarks of the iconic Spanish label. For more information, follow Faena Bazaar on Instagram (@FaenaBazaarMiami)
Binetti’s eponymous label, LOVE Binetti, caters to the free-spirited modern woman with a city-slicker edge. His spring/summer ’19 collection, “Sisters of the Moon,” showcasing tiered flowing dresses, romantic puff and poet sleeves, baby-doll empire cuts, and hand embroidered motifs, pays homage to empowered women in the worlds of music, fashion and art with designs that represent femininity defined by diversity and strength. You’ll find hints of Stevie Nicks’ gypsy-meets-rocker bravura, artisanal embroidery and long cotton dresses inspired by Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keeffe, and a trace of retro-European sophistication as a tribute to Italian doyenne Marella Agnelli. Must-have souk-inspired accessories include hand-beaded and tasseled hobos, hand-loomed totes and a circular top-handle bag with multi-colored raffia.

MEDICINE MUSIC FOR THE HEART
MASQUERADE. AN IDEAL TIME FOR FACIALS
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in harmony during a meditation, cacao ceremony and healing music concert.
Good Vibrations at Tierra Santa Healing House
BY DR. ROBERTA DEL CAMPO TIERRA SANTA HEALING HOUSE WELLNESS COLLABORATOR I am a huge fan of masks, and if you’re not masking, you’re missing out. Think of masks as a mini facialbetween-facials: they help target specific concerns such as dullness, discoloration, aging, congestion, and breakouts and help to keep your skin in tip-top shape. They are also a great way to relax and pamper yourself.
Singing bowls have been used for millennia to restore harmony on the subtlest physical, psychological and energetic levels of being.
How many times a week can you use a mask? I recommend no more than twice a week, as the skin needs time to heal and constant treatments can be too harsh on the skin. How do you know which type of mask is right for you? Almost anyone can benefit from a mud mask that helps lift impurities and brighten the skin. For those who are dry, a hydrating sheet mask will do the trick. The key is finding a mask that best fits your skin concern and one that you like using. Happy Masking!

“Our intention is to offer a diverse range of workshops and healing modalities in order to heal as many people as possible,” remarks Spa Director Agustina Caminos. On March 9, celebrity make-up artist Paola Orlando and image consultant Carolina Aubele are teaming up to deliver Holi Colors, a seminar that teaches participants how to use color to look and feel their best. Through a personalized color analysis, Orlando and Aubele will create a color palette for clothes, accessories, hair and makeup that will serve as the DNA of each participant’s personal style. “Colors carry a vibration and it’s helpful for people to know what vibrations they’re reflecting and attracting,” says Caminos. During a full-moon meditation on March 19, psychotherapist Inessa Freylekhman will offer guidance on how to make room for unlimited possibilities using feng shui, a 5,000-year-old Chinese practice that employs energy forces to harmonize individuals with their environments. Diving deeper into energy medicine, Caminos will lead a two-day Basic Pranic Healing Course on March 23-24. Guests will learn the intricate anatomy of energy fields to accelerate healing, improve interpersonal relationships
and maintain a positive state of mental well-being. Additionally, weekly Hatha and weekend Vinyasa yoga classes are offered at 10 am each morning, while daily Twin Hearts meditations release negative emotions and foster a greater sense of self-awareness and mental clarity. Guests can experience sound therapy through a variety of body treatments and experiences at Tierra Santa Healing House, including the spa’s signature Tree of Life Vibrations healing ritual that combines aromatherapy, massage and sound healing using Tibetan singing bowls. When played, the bronze bowls produce delicate to full-bodied sounds that harmonize broken frequencies in the mind, body and spirit. “Sound therapy shifts brain waves into an alpha or theta state to activate the body’s regenerative pathways and heal on a cellular level,” says Spa Director Agustina Caminos. The bowls are also applied to gently warm and soothe the lower back, slowly diffusing its vibrations to release deep-seated tension. Traditionally used in Himalayan monasteries,
Buddhist monks played the mystical bowls during sacred rituals and meditative practices to focus their minds and aid inner peace. The same still holds true today for the listener as well as the player, who is likely to experience a stabilizing effect as the left and right sides of the brain synchronize with one another. Caminos recommends playing singing bowls at home to move stagnant chi and soothe both mind and soul. In-house guests may dial Tierra Santa at 3217 to book treatments. GET ACTIVE, BUT SEE A PT FIRST By Kevin Mills. Tierra Santa Healing House Sports Therapy Collaborator The health benefits of exercise for disease prevention, cognitive ability, and longevity have been readily established. However, 80% of Americans still do not get the recommended activity dosage of 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. Many people want to exercise, but don’t know where to begin. This is where seeing a physical therapist first may help. Physical therapists are movement specialists who are trained to keep the musculoskeletal
system healthy and understand the underlying medical and biomechanical issues that affect it. A quality PT can help you determine if you have any weaknesses, imbalances, or alignment issues, and recommend the best type of exercise routine for your body. Don’t wait until you have a problem to see a PT, see one before you start an exercise routine to prevent an injury from happening in the first place.

Spring is Here! A Perfect Season For Eating Flowers If one studies flowers one realizes that there are some that are more beautiful than they need to be. Like the poppy, with its almost violent hue and its lofty elegance, flowers become separate from their primitive purpose and incline toward beauty. They are like a little perversion. Their diminutive frivolity extends to the rest of living beings, above all to humans, who are attracted to them to the extent of not only cutting them and taking them home, but also of wanting to eat them. The culinary use of flowers dates back to China, Greece and Rome thousands of years ago, but it has always been present in traditions around the world. Hibiscus is eaten in Africa, Latin America and China. We even eat watercress, orange squash blossoms, pansys' and moringa's which are a popular ingredient in the Indian subcontinent. The strange thing about this is that there is not a lot of energy in these flowers. They lack carbohydrates and proteins and usually have few minerals. So we eat flowers for the very same reason that they exist: they are beautiful, and that is enough. That beauty is not purely visual, however. In addition to their shapes and colors, flowers smell delicious, which is an essential part of cuisine, while some have slightly bitter or spicy tastes, adding an extravagant touch to the dishes they adorn. Unfortunately, not everything that is beautiful is edible; some of the most beautiful flowers are poisonous, although they are also medicinal if used correctly. But those that lose their ephemeral uselessness on our palate can be combined so that their beauty becomes a different end in itself. Eating flowers is an aesthetic charm, and literally feeding on that charm is a form of subversion. And precisely because they are not especially nutritious
or especially tasty, eating them is a way of reconciling ourselves with that capricious beauty, of flowing in harmony with their ephemeral phenomenon. And instead of always seeking the flavorful satisfaction of food, or the nutritional obsession for ‘superfoods’, let us eat out of aesthetic admiration, for a change. These are some edible flowers for a colorful spring diet: 1. Chrysanthemum (only the petals are eaten, and which are a little bitter or taste of pepper) 2. Orange blossom (citrus flowers are sweet and aromatic. They are used in small quantities to not over-perfume a dish. 3. Elderflowers (flowers and leaves. Soft, sweet flavor) 4. Gladiola (only the petals, which have a light taste) 5. Hollyhock (the petals have a subtle and vegetal taste) 6. Carnation (the petals are sweet when the base is removed) 7. Nasturtium (the most popular of all, sweet with a touch of pepper) 8. Marigold (remove the white base and eat the petals) 9. Roses (only the petals) 10. Alliums of the onion, garlic and leek species (all of the flower is edible) 11. Sunflowers (shoots, petals, seeds) 12. Violet (the entire flower, which is sweet) 13. Lavender (sweet, spicy and perfumed) 14. Squash blossoms (all of the flower and the upper part of the stalk) 15. Lilly (the flowers are spicy, infused with a citric aroma)

Bring your costume, bring your drums, and bring your party to Carnival in Buenos Aires.
THE FUTURE IS FEMALE Women´s Month at Faena Spa Every March, Faena Hotel Buenos Aires celebrates International Women’s Day with a month of specially curated spa therapies to foster well-being among women. In keeping with this year’s Women’s Day global theme #BalanceForBetter, Faena Spa is offering the Ahimsâ Day Spa treatment to help guests cultivate a greater sense of harmony and balance. The day-long spa experience begins with yoga practice in the spa’s Zen Room to awaken consciousness of the body, before heading to the Relax Room, where guests nourish themselves with fresh fruits, nuts and citric-infused water. A detoxifying hammam circuit featuring a sauna and steam bath prepares the skin for a relaxing aromatherapy massage using a range of chakra-balancing essential oils from palo santo to eucalyptus. A vegan lunch and purifying juice are served before heading to a centering Twin Hearts meditation. As a gift, guests receive a duo of natural oils from Faena’s Sacred Collection.
tradition dates back centuries when Catholics in Italy would host a decadent masked ball before the first day of Lent when they were expected to give up meat (“carnevale”) for a solemn period of fasting. Today in Buenos Aires, groups of neighbors band together for months to rehearse performances, which unfold in flashy sequined costumes with matching top hats, plenty of dancing and a riot of musical instruments from snare drums to whistles to cymbals as they parade through the streets putting on a show that’s not to be missed. Reservations can be made at +54 11 4010 9200 or at reservasuniverse@faenahotels.com. For more information on Faena Buenos Aires, visit www.faena.com/buenos-aires.
