LIVE ENTERTAINMENT AT THE LIVING ROOM & THE SA XONY BAR THE LIVING ROOM •
Revelers will be immersed in a futuristic dystopia populated by aerialists swinging from chains, burlesque dancers dominating the dark arts in bondage-inspired metal corsets, and robotic contortionists twisting and turning into unearthly poses. An enigmatic ensemble of world-class performers channel inspiration from the likes of “Mad Max” as they reel from cyr wheels, blow fire and deliver mind-blowing performances to dreamy, lo-fi beats spun by DJ duo, Paperwater. Harnessing the power of participation and creative expression, Nocturne blends cirque nouveau, festival spirit and Magic City pageantry to match the visually stunning scenes that define Fritz Lang’s iconic German film. Faena encourages partygoers to come in costume inspired the movie’s futuristic aesthetic in order to cross the threshold into a brave new world.

FAENA THEATER: REVENGE IS A DISH BEST SERVED COLD Faena once again will showcase its formidable artistic mettle with the triumphant stage debut of “The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover”, coming this October. Based on the audacious, macabre cult classic 1989 film, this immersive theater experience plunges guests into a gory, yet seductive imbroglio world where revenge is the final course. Elaborate set design transforms Faena Theater into the menacing Le Hollandais Restaurant, the show’s main setting. As the intoxicating revenge tragedy unfolds, guests dine on a luscious, three-
course spread from iconic Miami chef and James Beard winner, Michelle Bernstein. Flowing with enthralling precision, there’s no discernible differences between servers and actors as the music, dancing and mise-en-scène wend through the audience. Red-hot and captivating, this new original production is so much more than your average dinner theater.

Last Call: Samsara Cabaret Nears its Finale Faena Theater’s electrifying cirque cabaret, Samsara, will take its final bow on September 14. Now is the time to soak up its radiance before it reaches the end of its life cycle. Sprinkle a dose of Samsara stardust on the final throes of summer. Narrated through a series of lively vignettes led by a Goddess of Experience, played by local songstress EnVee, the show is a vortex of cosmic fantasy with mind-bending choreography and an experimental score brought to life by powerhouse vocalists and an electric string duo that will stir your soul. The outstanding ensemble of award-winning talent includes "America's Got Talent" semi-finalist singer Yoli Mayor, violinist Shane Borth, cellist Ben Munoz, and Quixotic Fusion stars Megan Stockman, Courtney Stohlton and Samantha Mixan. The spellbinding story tells the tale of Artemis, a mythical goddess played by Miami native Bianca Allanic, as she transcends time and space on a quest for her truest form. Throughout her journey, she encounters forces of light and darkness that lure her deeper into an erotic fantasyland brought to life through striking visuals, powerful song, acrobatics and fire dancing. The mythology of the phoenix, woven throughout the show, provided a north star
This isn’t your average DJ set. Guests can peruse a collection of vintage records displayed alongside the DJ booth and make playlist requests throughout the evening. Attentive staff are waiting by to top up your Avion Reposado tequila or mix another killer Patagonia Sour. for Allanic in portraying her character. “The phoenix understands the impermanence of its current incarnation and takes on each new cycle with wisdom, grace and power.” So does Allanic as she flawlessly fuses classic ballet, contemporary dance and burlesque movements. Fire and Spice, Miami Style
A Meal With a Mission Faena is teaming up with the Sustainable Supper Club and Hungry Harvest to fight food waste by delivering an outstanding gourmet experience in the La Cava dining room using ingredients normally rejected by consumers for being a tad off-size, off-color, or unattractive.
Get it while it’s hot! Pao, Los Fuegos and Casa Faena are serving up sybaritic prix-fixe lunches and dinners for the last month of Miami Spice—a citywide undertaking by top restaurants in Miami, each highlighting dishes from the gourmet world’s best and brightest.
IT’S 5 O’CLOCK SOMEWHERE Casa Faena serves up endless fun and bottomless Bellinis during its weekend Latin brunch along with weekday sundowner specials. There’s a lot to raise a glass to during Casa Faena’s (Not Your Basic) Latin Brunch and sunset happy hours. On Sundays, guests can indulge in carafes of tropical delights like Baybreeze and Madras elixirs or endless champagne cocktails while sampling Latin specialties like huevos rancheros, slow-cooked Cuban mojo pork or the chef’s favorite patacón “Pisao” plantain sandwich. For the non-alcohol drinkers, the Cuban coffee and fresh juices are a quick pick me up. During the week from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, brush off the sand and grab a table on the terrace while the sunset casts pastels across the sky and enjoy specially priced wines, beers, carafes and cocktails. Pair your G&T, Moscow Mule, Irish Blossom or Mojito with a selection of $1 bar bites like the mouthwatering mini-Cubans, jalapeño poppers, and savory spinach empanadas.
Walk-ins are welcome. Reservations can be made at +1 786 655 5600.
According to Hungry Harvest, about 20% of perfectly tasty produce goes to waste for being too big, too small, or too misshapen. The non-profit rescues castoff food from local farms and curates customizable boxes that are delivered to subscribers. Each delivery helps eliminate at least ten pounds of food waste and conserve the resources used in their production. “The idea behind the dinner is to show guests that they too can
make something delicious out of something we, as a society, usually discard or take for granted,” says Pao’s executive chef Benjamin Murray. “There are a lot of chefs and activists trying to change how people view food when so many go hungry and there is so much unnecessary waste.” Chef Murray will prepare a flavorful feast based on ingredients salvaged from nearby farms. “In addition to plant-based ingredients, we’re applying the same philoso-
phy to meat and fish, using parts people wouldn’t necessarily think of incorporating, but are eminently tasty,” says Murray. During the meal, the inspiring women behind the Sustainable Supper Club will speak to sustainable culinary practices, and how each of us can do our part to reduce food waste and take care of the environment. “Hopefully the dinner will increase awareness,” Murray adds. “Every little bit helps.”
In-house guests may dial the Concierge at 4037 for more information. Reservations can be made at +1 786 655 5600. SEP

Sustainable Dinner La Cava 7:00 pm
At Pao, James Beard-award winning chef Paul Qui and his team are plating compelling Asian fusion dishes in a striking, ocean-view setting. Qui, whose lifetime ambition is to “eat his way around the world,” presents scallop tataki, cobia “kinilaw” and sweet chili fried chicken to start, followed by a choice of roasted fish nam tok, mushroom bistek and sisig rice for an entrée, and a palatable finale of elderflower peach sorbet or bahibe frozen stone. Protégés of Argentine grillmaster Francis Mallmann work culinary magic at Los Fuegos using the primal forces of fire and iron. For lunch, fill up on dishes of beef empanadas, local snapper a la plancha, and roasted cauliflower. In the evening, pull up a seat in the jewel box of a dining room and indulge in smoked beet tartare, oxtail croquetes, and lamb ribs.
Casa Faena delights lunch guests with choices of slow-roasted cochinita pibil pork tacos and empanadas as starters, a main course of seared salmon and flavorful chimichurri skirt steak, and a decadent crème brûlée for a sweet finish. Many of us are so focused on laser treatments and skin care for the face that we forget about our necks. But our necks need some TLC too! This area is a common area of concern I see in my clinic and it makes sense. The neck is more sensitive, less resilient and tends to show aging quickly. The good news is there are simple steps we can take to keep our necks looking youthful. 1. Apply a mineral based sunblock daily and more often if outside. 2. Vitamin C every morning will help to repel free radicals and stimulate collagen. 3. At night think, repair! Mild retinols used ever other night or a human derived growth factor cream are the gold standard. 4. Be gentle. The neck is a sensitive area so gentle but effective is the key. Buenos Aires Blossoms in Spring
A Siren Call from Faena Art Center
Let Faena Hotel Buenos Aires be your zone of tranquility this season, your urban oasis from the hustle and jive as spring breathes new life into the city.
Faena Art presents Osías Yanov’s Choreographies of Salt, the Faena Art Center Buenos Aires’ first individual commission from an Argentine artist. From September 20 to September 22, guests are invited to participate in immersive performances and workshops that are free and open to the public.
THE MAGIC OF SOUND BATHS
Choreographies of Salt is an interactive artwork that revolves around a simulated archaeological discovery of a siren’s skeletal remains found along the banks of Río de la Plata outside the Faena Art Center. The installation extends from the dig site into the Sala Molinos exhibition hall where coarse salt covers the floor and ten performers dressed in chimerical costumes winnow sinuously among the grains. Curator Zoe Lukov notes that the
Attain divine alignment with Faena Spa’s guided deep dives into your celestial center during its monthly sound harmonization workshops. Allow the art of sound harmonization to echo deep within your chakras and take you ever closer to relaxation and peace. Quintessential to sound healing therapies is the gong, now paired with quartz crystal bowls, the freshest trend in this field. Unlike Tibetan singing bowls made of metal, quartz works with the wellspring of water inside us as a vibrational transmitter. Different stones hit different notes, each speaking to individual chakras. As amethyst activates the crown chakra, breathing becomes deep and steady, slaking the body’s thirst for thorough, penetrating rest and promoting cellular level mending able to heal physical, mental and spiritual pain.
siren represents both a mythological fantasy and a current dream for today’s trans community to inhabit a hybrid body. It’s a site of maximum potentiality that insists not on one or the other, but the fertile terrain existing between them. The excavation site also serves as a meditation on the space that lies between the dualities of reality and fiction, as well as touching upon the modern narrative of fake news and how the power of
collective myth can lead to alterative realities. The artist’s siren draws on ancient myth, Christian theology, and childhood fairytales to conceive a new “body” and gestural language that invites us to reimagine the possibilities of our past, present and future.

A CORDIAL INVITATION TO COOKING UNDER THE DOME Faena Hotel Buenos Aires masters the art of time-honored gaucho grilling with an authentic Argentine asado using a traditional fire dome. If food is the ultimate Argentine passion, then meat is its greatest love. No place on earth shares the grilling prowess of Patagonia and the Pampas, where buttery cuts of grass-fed beef like bife de lomo, vacío, entraña and bife de chorizo slow-roast cowboy-style atop a dome of glowing embers. On the sun-kissed terrace of El Mercado, gather with friends and family to feast on a leisurely Sunday asado where native customs meet modern style. Uncork an aromatic bottle of Malbec wine, laugh with loved ones and soak in the smoke-scented breeze. This is as good as life gets.
Reservations can be made at +54 11 4010 9207 or at reservasuniverse@faenahotels. com. For more information on Faena Buenos Aires, visit www.faena.com/ buenos-aires
As winter gently gives way to the welcoming warmth of spring, Buenos Aires is at its best and most beautiful. The prized indigo blooms of jacarandas bedeck the streetscape, and the days are mild enough to enjoy poolside lounging and rarified cocktails both classic and creative from seasoned mixologists. Escape your cares in velvet-draped rooms and dangle your feet in the pool as tango music colors the air. A menu of refreshing spring salads and light meals delight by day, while evenings are energized by swinging local bands and rockin’ DJs. Dance into a new season on Spring Day Equinox Party (September 21) at a chic, celebratory cocktail party marking the Poolbar’s reopening for spring where Faena Rosé flows plentifully and light bites sate the appetite. Join in as locals celebrate
this felicitous time grooving to live music in the hotel’s Living Room and supping themed cocktails at the Poolbar. If time allows, plan your visit to overlap with Buenos Aires’ Ciudad Emergente (September 13-16), a citywide festival enlivening the whole city with street art, a huge farmer’s market, urban sports and some of the biggest names in Latin music. Make Faena Hotel Buenos Aires your home base for the festivities and enjoy a 15 percent discount on a two-night stay in the city’s most coveted address. “We have given Osías Yanov carte blanche to create a new project for the Faena Art Center’s Sala Molinos— providing them with a new platform for the development of a dream project that amplifies their practice and promising trajectory. Their work infuses disparate disciplines and different media with the same spirit that inspires the programming at Faena Art, which continuously seeks to transform, reinvent and generate possibilities for new horizons", said Alan Faena.

the solitude of sailors, merpeople have gradually disappeared due to our change of manners. Our encounters with them are less and less common perhaps due to survival, emotional hardening or technological evolution ––but we have become deaf to their song. History, however, tells us that the best way of seeing them is keeping them in mind —there lays the key to recover these beings that gather the two most foreign worlds of all and reconcile beauty with monstrosity.

The number of mermaid sightings boomed with the arrival of the Age of Discovery; several explorers described them as having admirable, venerable features of “otherness”. It is well known that Christopher Columbus, for instance, reported to have seen mermaids during his journey through the Dominican Republic, although they were later thought to be manatees. What’s peculiar is that these men, aboard their luxurious ships, had the mermaid figure so present that —whether manatees or not— these would appear before them here and there during their navigations. To hold folklore close to us is to make a call to all its creatures. And even if hugely desired by

The ocean is our alternate world, the most foreign of them all and, therefore, the most populated by mirrors and speculations. It was a ubiquitous ancient belief which stated that every terrestrial animal has to have its oceanic counterpart, and humans are not the exception. For the first there are “seahorses” and “sea elephants”, and for us there is a chimeric and elusive version: mermaids. She, like a true reflection of man, has a voice, and her voice is so irresistible because it speaks for the fishes and for the sea, which move silently, keeping a secret. If one thing characterizes a sea nymph it’s her voice and her terrible infatuation with us, the sailors. Regardless of Disney wanting to redeem her from her essence, we all know that a mermaid is as enchanting as she is pernicious. She is a chimera that embodies the two components of a perfect oxymoron: water and earth, beauty and bestiality. —As irresistible to us as we are to her. But the mermaid was not always an incredibly sexy and terrible myth (as Odysseus well knew when he ordered his crew to tie him to the ship’s mast and cover his ears with wax so he would not fall victim to the irrepressible desire to go with them when he heard their song); this prodigious animal has suffered as many mutations as is fit for imagination, and before being a myth it posed a great threat. An excellent trap for humankind’s sensitive weaknesses. 16th century writer and cartographer Olaus Magnus, whose famous Carta Marina obsessively catalogued the many monsters of Scandinavian seas, noticed that fishermen believed that if you catch a mermaid “and do not presently let them go, such a cruel tempest will arise, and such a horrid lamentation of that sort of men comes with it, and of some other monsters joining with them, that you would think the sky should fall.”
