THE BIG 3 Whether you’ve been attending Faith Church for a long time or you are a first time visitor, THE PAPER is here to help! Being a part of this church family is a partnership in growth, so we encourage you to be involved in 3 ways:

WORSHIP ON THE WEEKENDS Gather with others to listen to a message from God’s Word, sing, pray and lift up the name of Jesus. Attend a service at one of our campuses. Faith Kids (infant-5th grade) is a safe place where kids can worship Jesus at their level. Don’t miss the opportunity to gather with others and worship each week. Invite a friend.

CONNECT IN COMMUNITY Being a follower of Jesus was never meant to be done alone. Sole-ranger Christianity usually means discouragement and failure. God has provided a better way-Biblical community. Community keeps us encouraged, helps us build meaningful friendships, and most importantly, helps us grow as Christians. This may be through a Mini-Church, Bible study or Serving Team. No matter what your age, God does not intend for you to walk through life alone. Be real. Be known.

SERVE OTHERS Join a weekend Serving Team at one of our campuses, serve in your neighborhood or around the world! God has gifted each of us to do something special. Discover the joy of serving.

TAG

If you have ever seen or heard the word “TAG” at Faith Church…it is probably referring to the “TAG” team. Yes, Faith Church has a TAG team. No, it is not a laser tag team. TAG stands for Technical Arts Group. The key is the “G.” When describing what or who is the Technical Arts Group –or TAG – the key letter is “G” –for Group. Technical Arts is responsible for all the lighting, video, projection and sound that you experience in Faith Church worship services and ministry events across all seven campuses. The name Technical Arts Group is descriptive of exactly what is involved. Technical – Yes. There are plenty of buttons to push, faders to adjust and screens to watch—and they love all that! But make no mistake, most volunteers that make up TAG are not computer programmers or electronic store employees. TAG is made up of schoolteachers, retirees, police officers, students, stay-athome moms, business owners, truck drivers…and the list goes on. For many in the group, it is a lot of fun, and fulfilling to use technology to glorify God. Arts – Most TAG volunteers will tell you that they are part of something bigger, and not just someone to turn on the lights and aim cameras for a couple of hours. They use their artistic skills to create the right mood and experience that the worship leaders, musicians and pastors want to portray. For example: a well framed camera shot, a great sound mix and effective video directing. Being a technical artist certainly has a role in the worship experience. TAG takes that role seriously. Of course, any technical arts person will tell you that mistakes are made. Mistakes will happen, but it is good to know that at every cam-

pus (on every weekend) there are dozens of volunteers in technical arts. They do all they can to create an artistic, effective worship experience. Group – TAG is staff led, but volunteer operated and driven. These are volunteers who see value in carving time out of their busy weeks to give their best back to God. The uniqueness of TAG is that you don’t need to view technology as your hobby or passion (although many do). Many view TAG as a place to “plug in,” work on a team, and have community. Another unique quality is that the entire team—men and women ages 14 – 70 (including couples and singles)—all come together to work hard, have fun and share life together. (Could that be why so many who sign-up to serve, find themselves on the team 4, 5, 6+ years later?!) If you are looking for a place in church to contribute to worship in a meaningful way— check out the Technical Arts Group of Faith Church by contacting John at jclausing@ faithchurchonline.org. You can strive to give God your best efforts, be on mission with a group of brothers and sisters who will pray for you and support you—all while having fun. No experience necessary!

GOD’S LITTLEST ANGELS IN

HAITI

For three years, Faith Church has been sending teams to God’s Littlest Angels (GLA) orphanage, located in Petion-Ville, Haiti. The purpose of these team trips are to serve GLA through manual labor, and by loving on the children at the orphanage. Every time a team goes their hearts are changed. Their hearts become broken by the injustice of poverty and orphaned children, yet full because of the experiences of God’s faithfulness in a broken world. Teams go to the orphanage expecting to give, and yet return having received so much more than they expected. GLA currently rents property in Petion-Ville that house the 81 children and staff. A few years ago, GLA purchased property in Fort Jacques, which is several miles away. They are in the process of building a permanent orphanage at Fort Jacques. Part of the team’s responsibility has been to build the new orphanage site. This past October, the Faith team spent a lot of time doing final preparations on the small houses and school house. This is where the older children of the orphanage will be moving before Christmas. The other part of the trip was spent loving the children. It didn’t take long for the team or the children to fall in love with one another. The older children at GLA quickly warmed up to the group and connected immediately through worship while singing those beautiful songs “10,000 Reasons” and “Oceans.” The children’s sweet voices revealed their hearts and confidence in Jesus, which left the Faith team overwhelmed with joy. From tie-dyed T-shirts to bracelets, there was not a shortage in crafts for them all to enjoy together. Other time was spent snuggling babies and entertaining two-year-olds on the balcony of the Main House, which overlooks the beautiful Haitian landscape. This team certainly came home with changed hearts. Changed because they fell in love with children who are so close to God’s heart— orphans. Changed because they had experienced worship with Haitian believers. Changed because they allowed God to move in their hearts. Changed because the team became a family. Changed after witnessing the staff of GLA giving their lives to the children of Haiti. Changed because of what they had seen, and their desire to make a difference. There are 2 trips planned for 2015; July 27-August 3 and October 12-19. Space is limited. To reserve your spot fill out the application and submit your deposit. The deadline for the July trip is January 30, 2015. More information can be found at faithchurchonline.org under the mission tab. If you have any questions contact Jen at jenej@ sbcglobal.net.

THE KOOISTRA FAMILY Q. A.

What are your names? And do you have any children? We are Sam and Becky Kooistra. We have four children: Julia, Lyla, Sammy and Lukas.

Q. A.

Where are you from? Currently, we are from Schererville, Indiana, but shortly, we will be making a move to Illinois. We want to be closer to Luke’s school, which is Elim Christian.

Q. A.

How did you first get connected to Faith Church? We became connected to Faith originally through our sister, and brother-in-law, Mike and Amy, who have been mem- bers since it was located in South Holland, Illinois. We were told there was a new ministry starting called “Reflec tors” (for special needs children and adults), which would benefit our whole family (our Lukas has Autism). At the time, we were taking turns going to our previous church, so one of us could stay back with Luke. We were curious about this program, and started visiting regularly. We knew almost immediately this is where we wanted to be.

Words can’t describe how amazing the Reflectors ministry has been for our family. It has truly been a huge blessing. We are able to worship together again, and know that our son is also being taught about God’s love in a way that he can understand.

Q. A.

How do you connect with others at your campus? Our daughters love to help out and volunteer in the Reflectors room, and won’t miss a Wednesday evening with 180. It’s so cool to see how all these children get together and worship God, while making new friends, and having fun. Sammy enjoys Faith Kids, and is always talking about what he learned.

Q. A.

What have you seen God do in your life? Joining Faith was one of the best decisions we’ve made. We have developed a closer relationship to God, and have had some amazing people placed in our lives. We have been blessed with new friendships, and have such a strong sense of belonging. Because of Faith’s dedication to serv ing families with special needs, we have been given the opportunity to grow even further in our spiritual journey, both individually and as a family.

Q. A.

Anything else you would like to share? At this time, we are focusing on our move and our children. We are busy with therapies, schools, work, etc. We are looking forward to the time where we can become more involved in activities and groups in church!
