F I N A N C I A L A financial update usually contains a lot of numbers, and while this article does include some numbers, it also has other exciting news. As we consider our finances as a church and how we as followers of Jesus are giving of our treasures in response to the God who has given us everything in Christ, we want to share this information with you.
THE NUMBERS Through the end of April, approximately $2,205,000 was given to the General Fund. This is an 8% increase from the same period last year and the most ever received in this period. Thank you for your generosity! Our 2019 budget is about 5% higher than giving last year, so we are pacing well. However, this amount is still less than our yearto-date expenses, so we will once again need to see continued strong giving to cover our expenses. Historically, approximately 33% of the year’s giving is received in the last quarter of the year.
T H E I M PA C T The gifts given to Faith Church are used to impact this region and the world, so when you give, you are investing in the kingdom of God! Here are some exciting things that happened in the first four months of the year: • 191 middle school and high school students attended a retreat at SpringHill Camp and took new steps in their faith;
• 210 youth and adults with special needs served by 390 volunteers enjoyed an exciting evening at the Night to Shine event;
• Lives were changed as we welcomed 58 new members, 14 child baptisms, and 2 adult baptisms at our Celebration Services; • Over 2,000 people committed to reading the Bible each day as part of the Cover to Cover 4 Year Bible Reading Plan; • 96 People attended the “Your Money, Your Marriage” event • Through the message at the weekend worship services, we explored key questions in life (Explore God), examined our emotional health (This is Me), and were taught the 4 key traits of following Jesus (The 4G Life);
• Over 2,500 people attended our three Good Friday Services as all campuses came together to remember Christ’s death • Over 7,250 members and visitors in attendance at our 15 Easter services across all campuses
Other exciting things will be happening after this report was sent to the print:our Ladies Night Out Event, a CeleWration Weekend with new members and baptisms, and a sermon series handling conflict. When we give our treasures, we are investing in the kingdom of God, giving away what will not last into eternity to make an impact for eternity.

THE ASSURANCE
THE CHALLENGE
The Stewardship Team Deacons want to assure you of the safeguards in place to maintain integrity in the area of finances. Some important things to note are that an annual review is conducted by an independent CPA, our deacons approve our budget and receive regular reports to monitor it, and our pastors do not have access to our church funds.
While our finance reports often look at the church’s budget, we need to remember that stewardship is ultimately not about a budget, but rather our hearts. Our deacons encourage you to regularly consider what it means to give of your treasures to the kingdom of God. It is easy to put money in the plate, write a check, or give through PushPay without giving much thought into why we give or how the Lord is leading us to give back to Him. As we move through the year, let us give faithfully and thoughtfully as a way of responding to God’s grace and seeking to see Him restore and transform lives in our world. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
Financial integrity is a key value of our leadership as we are stewards of the resources received and accountable to God for what He has given us.

One of my favorite Bible verses is Matthew 22:37-39: “Jesus replied: ‘Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.’” The part of that verse that is sometimes difficult for me to live out is: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” In fact, even an expert of the law tried to trick Jesus by asking: “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus responded with a familiar parable found in Luke 10:29-36: a man is robbed and left on the side of the road. A priest and Levite both passed by without stopping to help -- they were too busy doing the “Lord’s work”! Finally, a Samaritan came upon the Jewish man and stopped to help him (Jews and Samaritans generally hated each other). Jesus then asked the law experts, “Which of these three was the neighbor?” God taught me about loving my neighbor when He put a little girl named Brooke in my life. She was introduced to me five years ago through Kids Hope, a mentoring ministry for elementary school children whose mission is: One Child. One Hour. One School. One Church. I met with Brooke for an hour every week and had lunch, played games or read books. During our first month together she told me several conflicting stories about her family. After many conversations, she finally trusted me enough to be truthful and told me that her mom was in jail, her dad lived in Wisconsin with her brother and sister, and she lived with her grandmother. We had a good year eating lunch together and I think she was surprised that I kept showing up to hang out with her. When Brooke entered middle school, I didn’t want to lose my connection with her just because she was too old for Kids Hope. Thankfully, I was able to develop a relationship with her grandmother and she allows me to take Brooke out for dinner and to Youth Group at Faith Cedar Lake twice a month. It has been such a blessing and we both look forward to these nights! I am so thankful that Brooke is learning about Jesus and making some good friends. She was excited to attend the Faith Church Students Winter Retreat in March 2018. I asked my daughter, Rachel, to make sure
ALL I DID
WA S S H O W U P BY RONDA HUISMAN
Brooke was OK and her response was, “We got this mom -- she is going to experience Jesus!” I left the parking lot full of coach buses weeping and saying, “Thank You, God!” Guess what? Brooke asked Jesus into her heart that weekend! She was so full of joy when I picked her up! God is so good! Brooke is now in 7th grade and still struggles with school and family issues, but now she has Jesus AND all of us cheering and praying for her on her journey! I am going to keep showing up, loving her, praying for her, and watching what God does in her life. All glory goes to GOD! And you know what else is cool? Brooke and her sassy, fun personality are a blessing to me. We have lots of laughs together every time we meet. So my question for you is: who can you be a neighbor to? Can you find one person, once a week, for one hour to bless? Do you have to have all the answers? NO way. Do you have to know every Bible verse? NO way. You just have to show up and listen. Don’t miss the chance to love your neighbor. You’ll be glad you did!

SHORT-TERM
MISSIONS
As Faith Church missions strive to mobilize people and resources, we are excited to be sending four teams in ministry this summer. As some are called to go, others are called to pray and/or give. In the coming months, please pray for safe travels for these teams and that the work they do will be a blessing to others.
JONI AND FRIENDS FAMILY CAMP
Muskegon, MI | June 9-14
Volunteers, or “Short-Term Missionaries (STMs), will be paired alongside an individual with special needs and his/her family to help them enjoy a vacation-type experience where they will build relationships and be spiritually nourished.
HARDERWYK MINISTRIES
Holland, MI | July 21-26 Our Middle School students will be serving alongside Harderwyk Ministries where they will help long-term ministries in various projects in Holland, MI and surrounding areas. In addition, they will hear from great speakers, participate in times of worship, and enjoy a bit of fun on the white sandy beaches of Lake Michigan.
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF MANAUS (IPM)
Brazil | August 17-25
Individuals and families will be heading to the Amazon this August to serve alongside our church partner, IPM, on their medical mission boat. The team will assist in medical needs with the doctor and dentist on board while also having the opportunity to minister to the many villagers who come to see the boat when it stops in their village.

SERVING WITHIN THE 4G LIFE BY LINDA JORDAN
I don’t know about you, but the first time I heard the word “serve” in a church setting, it conjured up images of going to a soup kitchen or other homeless facility and trying to talk with people I didn’t know. Worse yet, I had visions of sweating and swatting mosquitoes in faraway lands where the food would make me beyond sick. As I continue to learn and grow in my walk with the Lord, I am understanding that serving can mean the simplest of gestures -- many which can be done in our own homes, neighborhoods, church, or towns. Fact: We are called by Jesus to serve. Period. It is not something we can opt out of. How are you doing with your 4 G Life? If we want to live into the third and fourth Gs, Give and Go, we simply must weave serving into our schedules. Have you inspected your daily/weekly/monthly commitments? Have you examined whether these commitments involve serving others? If they don’t, have you considered adding commitments that do serve others? Giving involves giving back to the Lord from the gifts He has given so freely to us. Yes, it can involve giving of your financial resources. It can also mean serving others by using the spiritual gifts and abilities He has given you. Do you have the gift of hospitality? Perhaps you can gather people from your neighborhood, workplace, or those you see often in church for a meal. Do you have the gift of teaching? Perhaps you could facilitate a small group of friends, family, or colleagues. Do you have the gift of service/help? Consider how you can pitch in and help/serve others. Can these gifts be used here at Faith Church? Absolutely! Do they have to be used here? Absolutely not! Do you love kids and/or students? There are plenty of children here, or in local elementary schools, who need to be loved with the love of Jesus. Do you have a pleasant and joyful personality? We have plenty of first-time guests who need their first impression of Jesus to be that of a warm welcome, greeting, or having their questions answered with patience and joy. How about the coffee shop or book store? Do you have a heart for moms bringing up little ones? We have many here who could benefit from your wisdom and experience. You can serve outside the walls of Faith Church as well...and that is our call to Go.

K ICK OF F DATES BEECHER
Friday, Sep 13 | 6 PM
CEDAR LAKE
Wednesday, Aug 28 | 6:30 PM You can show the love of Jesus to ANYONE you encounter-ANYWHERE. Have you ever seen a mom struggling in the store with an unhappy child? Words of encouragement can go a very long way for that mom. Do you know a couple who could use a date night and break from their kiddos? Having their kids over for a few hours can be so restorative for that couple so when they return, they are ready to love those kiddos with their best love. A simple card left on a colleague’s desk with words of encouragement or acknowledgement of a job well done can stay with and encourage them for a very long time. Give to God’s people with the gifts, talents, strengths, and abilities He has given you. Go into this world and be the love, hope, and encouragement of Jesus to those you encounter every day. So you see, serving doesn’t have to mean discomfort with strangers or traveling to faraway lands and getting bug bites and stomach aches. (Thankfully, there are plenty of people with those gifts.) We simply need to pay attention to the people God places in our path every day and choose to serve them with simple acts of kindness. Let’s live into our 4 G Life in service as we Give and Go.

BEECHER PASTOR’S NOTE If you’re reading this publication, you must be curious about the life and culture of Faith Church -- who we are, what we believe, and how we are involved and on mission in our community. Since opening the Beecher Campus in 2012, our Gospel focus has been reaching the 20,000 people who live in the rural communities of Beecher, Grant Park and Peotone. We are incredibly grateful to God for the sincere, deepening relationships within our church family, but most notably, those outside our walls -- with the public schools and local government officials in our area. If you are looking for a church family that is active in the community (even if you live outside our focus area!), we would be honored to have you at one of our Sunday morning services - 9 & 11 AM - and welcome you into the ebb and flow of weekday ministry. Come as you are and we’ll learn together about the truth, love and grace of Jesus Christ through biblical teaching and real-life application as we serve God and others throughout the week. We hope you’ll join us! Pastor Nathan Prairie

DYER PASTOR’S NOTE When I started serving Faith over 25 years ago, we were a family of six. My wife Laurie, our four children and their spouses, and grandchildren now number 16. In comparison, Faith Church has grown from one church with 250 people to now having six sites with thousands of wonderful people. God is a God of fruitfulness and reproduction. Laurie and I have found joy in every season of life. We are currently “empty nesters” which allows us to cherish our loving grandchildren in all their wonder. This season also provides unique opportunities for us to serve God’s world in its beauty and in its gospel impact. God is moving in mighty ways at Faith Church and I am excited to see where He will lead! Pastor Bob Bouwer

SERVE
IS OFF FOR THE SUMMER. WE WILL RESUME SEPTEMBER 11
God has created each one of us with unique gifts and talents. When we use those gifts to serve others, we become participants in God’s plan to transform the world. Lives are changed-not just the lives of those we help but also our own. When we do what God designed us to do and when we love others the way God loves us, we get closer to being who God intended us to be. Get connected serving at WeAreFaith.org/serve. Landscape Maintenance Help is needed to keep the grounds at our Dyer Campus looking beautiful. If you are willing to serve in this way, contact Bryan at bford@WeAreFaith.org.

HIGHLAND PASTOR’S NOTE Welcome to Faith Highland! I am so glad that you are taking the time to read this! I just want to let you know who we are. We are a church that believes Jesus is the only way for us to be restored in our relationship with God. When we gather, we want to praise Him for who He is and we want to learn more about Him so our relationship can grow. When we scatter and leave our building we want to serve Him and share Him with whoever we have relationship with. Do we get it right all the time? Nope. Do we ever mess it up? Definitely. But it doesn’t stop us from trying. We’d love to build a relationship with you and have you be a part of our community at Faith Highland. Please let us know how we can help! Pastor Jason DeVries

● CARE
At Faith Highland, we believe God designed us to be in relationship with Him and with others. But it’s unlikely we will develop deep and meaningful relationships if all we do is attend a weekend service. We encourage you to be a part of a small group where you can regularly be with people who get you, who understand your challenges and concerns, and who can help you explore your questions and your doubtspeople who can share life with you and come alongside you when you need a little help on the way.
Additional Care groups listed on page 18.
We have many small group options: men’s groups, women’s groups, family groups, large groups and care groups. Small groups meet in a variety of places, days and times. SCHERERVILLE PASTOR’S NOTE Welcome to Faith Church Schererville! My name is Aaron Klein, and I have the privilege of pastoring our Schererville location. My wife, Nicole, and I moved to the area in 2017 with our 4 children: Adriana (16), Nathaniel (15), Gabriel (13) and Samuel (11). It’s been a joy to be a part of such a warm and welcoming church. We’ve served at churches on the East Coast (Pennsylvania) and in the Southeast (Florida), but it’s great to be back home where our roots are here in the Midwest region. Throughout our ministry, we’ve had a passion for living a missional lifestyle through relationships, and so it’s been awesome to see how well we’ve fit with Faith Church’s belief in “restoring the world one relationship at a time.” If you’re the type of person who’s felt “hurt by the church” or “burned by the church;” or if you’ve just been “wondering about this whole God thing,” we promise you’ll find a diverse community of people who love to walk together in relationship. And we do so recognizing that we’re an imperfect people trying to follow a perfect God. We love our campus, and we invite you to come join us at 10 AM at Campagna Academy. Come see how we’re growing people deep in their walk with Jesus and wide in their witness to the world. I’m looking forward to meeting you soon! Pastor Aaron Klein
