R E S TO R I N G A N D TRANSFORMING THE WORLD Faith Church ONE believes all followers of Christ are called to a RELATIONSHIP higher purpose - that as “salt and light we have been called AT A TIME to make a difference in the world. We should be actively engaged in building relationships inside and outside of the church-deeper relationships with God and other Faith Church members certainly, but also with co-workers neighbors and friends outside the church community. In these relationships we display and share the transforming love of Jesus Christ.

S C OT T & J E S S I C A M AT T I N LG Y WHERE ARE YOU FROM? Jessica is from South Holland, Illinois and Scott is from Southern Indiana, near Louisville, Kentucky.
HOW DID YOU FIRST GET CONNECTED TO FAITH CHURCH? Jessica grew up at Faith Church in South Holland. We met five years ago. While we were dating longdistance, Scott started visiting Faith Church when he was visiting Jessica. Later Scott got to jam with the Worship team from time to time at Dyer while he was in town. We got married October 8, 2016.
WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN GOD DO AT FAITH CHURCH? It’s been exciting to see how Faith Church has grown and changed over the years, and hear stories of how God has used Faith Church to change lives. We’re also encouraged and challenged by the strong sense of family, humility, and desire to love and serve people we see in the leaders and members of Faith Church.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT THE WORSHIP SERVICES? We enjoy connecting to God through the music, watching Faith Kids have fun dancing and singing, hanging with our Church family, and learning from Pastor Nathan’s preaching from God’s Word.
WHERE DO YOU SERVE AT FAITH CHURCH? Scott is the Faith Students Director and Worship Director at Faith Beecher. Jessica serves in the Faith Students Snack Shack and on the Worship Team.
HOW DO YOU CONNECT WITH OTHERS AT YOUR CAMPUS? Jessica teaches art classes for kids and adults at Faith Beecher and teaches the Cocoa & Canvas classes in Dyer. Scott hangs out after church to talk to people and spends a lot of time with the amazing Student and Worship ministry leaders.
WHAT HAVE YOU SEEN GOD DO IN YOUR LIFE? God brought us together after being single for many years and He has provided a great church family for us at Faith Church.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE? We also enjoy our small group at Dyer, the Creative Artists small group that meets twice a month on Wednesday nights.

Who is on the Tech Arts team? Every campus has a staff representative who leads, trains and prepares their campus teams. They are:
Beecher - Nick McGraw
Schererville - Luis Garcia
But the people who make it work are our incredible volunteers! The teams are a collection of all kinds of people who God uses to make his name Cedar Lake - Jason Siegfried Dyer - Jason Bultema known. Teenagers, retirees, men, moms, teachers, carpenters, accountants, students, project managers, electricians, grandmas, truck drivers and more. One unique aspect of the Tech Arts team is the range of years our volunteers have served - from one, three, five, even over 12 years - in support of this ministry. Volunteers serve for many reasons - it’s fun, it’s interesting, it’s different but mostly because it is fulfilling to know they’ve played an active part in helping thousands of people worship God! Are you looking for a way to serve that is fun and meaningful? You are welcome to check out your campus Tech Arts team and find out how and why your Faith family members serve (and stay!) in this ministry. However, here is what you can’t do. You can’t feel you are not qualified (“I can’t even work my remote - I couldn’t serve there!”). Our current teams are filled with folks who have

We know the buttons, faders and screens may seem difficult, but our job is to put you in a position to succeed! Rest assured, you will be comfortable and confident when you serve on our team. So, what’s your next step? Our need for volunteers is great! Stop by the tech area at your campus to learn more or email any questions to TammyL@WeAreFaith.org.

PRAYER
PILLOWCASES RONDA HUISMAN- FAITH KIDS DIRECTOR
One Sunday morning I asked my Faith Kids small group of 1st and 2nd graders if they prayed at home before dinner or at bedtime. Less than half said they did. I shared this with our Faith Kids team and we asked ourselves how could we partner with parents and families to encourage them to pray consistently to praise Jesus and ask Him for help? What tool could we give them instead of just telling them to “pray more”? This is where the Prayer Pillowcase idea started. Families are extremely busy, but eventually everyone goes to sleep. Going to bed is part of everyone’s day so we thought a reminder to pray every time your “head hit the pillow” could work. So the graphics team created an awesome bubble letter design that said, “Dear Jesus - Thank You… Please…” and we had 1,000 pillowcases printed for all the campuses. We picked up some fabric markers so the kids could color the letters and make it their own. It was such fun! The preschool-5th grade kids enjoyed coloring their pillowcases and the parents were so excited to have this tool! We even had adults who wanted the pillowcases to put on their own pillows! We also passed out a great article from the Parent Cue about ways cultivate a prayer habit with your children. Here is a highlight from that article by Nina Schmidgall: Here are few ways to help your children develop a prayer habit in your family. 1. MODEL IT. It takes intentionality to model a prayer life for your kids. Consider setting your alarm thirty minutes earlier so you have time in prayer before starting your day. Tell your family about your plan and keep them informed about how it is going. Share the way God is answering your prayers and leading you through your prayer time.
2. PRAY CONSISTENTLY. Turn prayer into a habit by making it a part of your routine. Kneel together with your child each night before bed and ask them to share what is on their heart. Consider writing prayers in a journal with your child so you can see how God answers. 3. PRAY SPECIFICALLY AND BOLDLY. My pastor Mark Batterson is known for encouraging people to pray bold and specific prayers. In his book, Praying Circles around Your Children , he shares, “God honors bold prayers because bold prayers honor God.” God likes answering bold and specific prayers because it is clear that He is the one that moved. Commit to a specific and bold prayer as a family and pray for it together daily.
4. PRAY SCRIPTURE AND BLESSING. Consider a Scripture that you can pray over your children. Recite it to them each night or as they leave your home in the morning. Here are a few suggestions: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26). “May you grow in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and with man.” (Luke 2:52) Don’t miss the opportunity to leave a legacy of prayer in your family. Prayer pillowcases and the book Praying Circles Around Your Children are still available in the Vine Bookstore in Dyer. God gets all the glory!

H O U S T O N BY LINDA JORDAN
Last August we all watched as Hurricane Harvey, a category four storm, invaded Houston, Texas. It hovered over the city for four days. Two reservoirs overflowed and the greater Houston area was ravaged by the flood waters. Many at Faith Church asked how we could help. The answer came when a team of eleven people, representing three campuses, traveled to Houston to help those trying to recover from the devastation. We spent a week in late February working primarily on two homes. All of the demolition was complete in the area where we worked. Rebuilding was now the focus. Our work included a variety of tasks: laying and grouting tile, hanging and taping drywall, removing roofing shingles, installing toilets, vanities, sinks and fixtures, caulking, and installing switch plates and door stops. We did a lot of painting and deep cleaning as well. Some of us were skilled and equal to these tasks and some of us were in perpetual learning mode. As important as the work was, talking with the home owners and hearing their stories was often the deeper need. We heard how people were evacuated, their profoundly emotional recounts of returning home for the first time and descriptions of the devastation they faced. We also heard their hearts of gratefulness to first responders, neighbors with boats, friends and family willing to take them into their homes, and the many teams of volunteers meeting their needs from day one through the reconstruction of their homes. We experienced only kindness and thankfulness. Everyone we encountered, from the volunteers at the church that hosted us, to the site (home) managers, to the clerks at local stores, to the homeowners. They all showered us with gratefulness. The Texan hospitality was genuine and moving.
During dinner one evening, a volunteer from the church shared something most of us, far from the disaster, would never consider. She shared that her friends, who have flood insurance and are back in their home, are comfortable and secure in their new furnishings. However, each time it begins to rain, they are filled with nearly inconsolable anxiety. Can we even begin to imagine what that is like? This trip simply wrecked me. Within days, most of us moved on with our lives. People there are still suffering and longing for brothers and sisters to listen to them, talk with them, pray with and for them. Our team has remained in prayer for those returning, or still waiting to return, to “normal life. Won’t you please join us in prayer for them as well as the organizations working tirelessly to make this happen? There is still tremendous need as contractors are spread very thin. For many jobs, they can only spare and send one laborer a week to a given home. Organizing a trip to disaster-torn areas is simple and affordable. We need to be sending more teams to be the hands and feet of Jesus to our suffering brothers and sisters in Christ. If you are able to make such a trip, I highly recommend it. The Houston Team worked with our mission partner World Renew at the Fuller Center. For more information about their work, visit worldrenew.net.
NEIGHBORING WELL
BY: PASTOR AARON KLEIN
So there we were. We had picked up and moved 1,000 miles to a new area to start a church with zero contacts. But where do we start? How do we get to know people? Certainly as a family, we’re generally more outgoing and hospitable by nature; but this required taking it to a whole new level well beyond our comfort zones. And what we learned became more than a matter of sinking or swimming for our very livelihood, it became a way of life. In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, an expert in Jewish law asked about inheriting eternal life. When Jesus questioned him about how he read it, the man answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Luke 10:27) But then the question came, “Who is my neighbor?” As usual, Jesus’ response challenged the thinking of the day. Do our neighbors look like us, talk like us and act like us? Are they the people we like? Are they the people we don’t like? Are they the people we consider good or bad? Jesus reminded them that neighboring well isn’t just about loving the people who are easy to love, it’s also about loving the people who aren’t easy to love. So how do we apply this to our own contexts? How do we neighbor well in our own neighborhoods and communities? - Learn the names of the people around you. It’s simple, but how many of us really know the names of the people in the 8 houses around us?
14
- But don’t just learn their names, learn something about them you can’t tell just by looking at their yards. Ask them about their interests and hobbies. Ask them about their likes and dislikes. - Earn the right to learn the deep stuff. That means you have to engage people in more than just conversations. Invite them over for a BBQ. Have a weekly campfire in your backyard or front driveway. Have a movie night, borrow a projector and throw a movie on a sheet on your garage door. Rally neighbors to throw a block party. -If you’re handy, offer to lend a hand with a project (landscaping, putting in a fence, installing a garage door opener, painting, cutting grass, etc.). Better yet, just show up and start helping since many people won’t take you up on your offer to help. - Make a meal and surprise them with it, or call them up and tell them you’re providing dinner tomorrow. - Ask them if there is anything in their lives that needs prayer. -Certainly invite them to church. But, remember, the old adage remains true: “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” The point is that you have to be intentional. We get so busy in our own summer routines: vacations, sports and projects that we rarely take time for our neighbors. We let fear get in the way. We say, “I’m not extroverted.” We tell ourselves, “I’m not equipped!” or “They’re not like me!” or “They’re broken/bad people.” But if we are to “love our neighbors as ourselves,” it means that we need to build time into our busy schedules, we need to forgo our fears, and we need to eliminate our excuses. So let’s try to neighbor well as we head into this summer. Let’s choose to love as Jesus loved us in word and deed.
FAITH SANTO DOMINGO UPDATE Faith Santo Domingo was launched in 2015 by David Mojica and his family (wife Ylva and daughters Sarah, Esther and Ruth). After faithfully laboring there over the past few years, David and his family sensed their call as missionaries in the Dominican Republic was coming to an end, and decided to move back to the U.S. at the end of May. We celebrate what God has done during their time of ministry in the Dominican Republic. The hope was to see people reached with the gospel. There were many who came to know Christ and deepened their faith, with broken people finding hope, godly marriages being formed, and new leaders being developed. During the Mojica’s time in the Dominican 38 people were baptized; 6 small groups were formed and continue to meet steadily; about 80 youth are gathering for worship and fellowship on Saturday nights, with 30 of those from the church and the rest from the community; and a great spark has been ignited for reaching out to schools as the church partnered with 10 local schools to minister weekly to over 2,000 kids and handed out over 1,200 Bibles to middle school students.
While the Mojicas have returned to the U.S., God continues to be on the move and others will continue the work David started. In fact, one of the goals in this work was to develop ministry and pass it along to native leaders, and this has happened. While in the Dominican, David connected with a network of churches called Shekinah. David and Ylva have a strong connection to Shekinah as they met there many years ago and worked with this church body in the last 1990s. Among their locations in Santo Domingo, there is a church close to where Faith Santo Domingo had been meeting. With David’s transition, Faith Santo Domingo was received into the Shekinah Church, a church with over 20 locations in the Dominican Republic and over a dozen in the Santo Domingo area. The 65-70 people of Faith Santo Domingo combined with the approx 125 people of the Shekinah Church, with leaders of Faith brought into leadership at the campus. With this transition, Faith Church will no longer have a campus in Santo Domingo. Like Faith, the Shekinah Network has a vision for multiplying locations and followers of Jesus.
Faith Santo Domingo’s focus over the past couple of years had been on teaming up with local schools with a vision of transformation, “one school, one child, one family at a time.” With Shekinah’s network of churches in Santo Domingo and the foundation David helped lay within the schools, we are excited for how this partnership will grow even further and advance the vision we had in launching a multiplying church. Please be in prayer for the people of Faith Santo Domingo as they connect with the people of Shekinah. While we will no longer have a campus in the Dominican Republic, we are still committed to seeing multiplication happen there and will be working with ministry partners on the ground to continue to support ministry in this area of the world. We hope to have David and his family come for a visit this summer to celebrate what God has done in the life of the church and to encourage the Mojicas in their next chapter. Please pray for them as they seek what is next for them in ministry and as they return to the U.S. after serving overseas for a number of years.

FI GIVING In the first 13 weeks of the year, giving was up about 6 percent from the same period in 2017. This increase is in part due to a great offering on Easter ($155,000) to close out the quarter. Thank you for your generosity so far this year! We are encouraged by this report, but do need to note that our year-to-date offerings are at 83% of our giving goal for the period (about $300,000 short). We also concluded the Reach Project, with the overall amount given to date tallying $6,637,450.
SPENDING Our deacons and staff have monitored our expenses so we have only spent about 96% of our budget for this period. While our expenses are fairly steady, we typically see a significant increase in giving at the end of the year. Therefore, it is not uncommon for expenses to exceed giving at this point in the year (as they do right now), but this pattern can limit our ministries as we have to use cash reserves and watch our expenses as we wait to see how we will finish.
18
NANCIAL UPDATE ENCOURAGEMENT
MOVING FORWARD We will continue to watch our expenses, and we also need our giving to remain strong in the coming months. Summer can be a time in which we see a dip in giving, as people often travel, but we need giving to remain steady so we have the operational funds needed throughout the year to support the ministries of the church and its partners. A tool you may find helpful during the summer months is Pushpay, which is a convenient way to give either on a one-time 2.0 or recurring basis.
DEBT
Giving is both an act of worship to God and also a way to invest in His kingdom. We are thankful for the faithfulness we see BY BRIAN DENNERT each year and also for the strong start this year. Please know the resources you give to Faith Church are used for ministry to restore and transform the world one relationship at a time, both through Faith Church and its ministry partners.
$1,822,639
The loan on our building in Dyer is now below $900,000 and we are on pace to pay it off in 1.5 2021, at which point we will have those funds (around $300,000 a year) available for other ministry needs. We also have a loan we took out in 2016 to build the Cedar Lake Campus 1.0 building that has a current balance of around $1,500,000. These are our only loans. We are thankful our debt is low for a church of our size, and we are making good progress towards 0.5 paying off the loans we needed to construct buildings for ministry. If you would like to help pay down our debt, there is an option to give towards debt reduction through PushPay, giving envelopes, and MyFaith. 0.0

BEECHER PASTOR’S NOTE We’d be honored to have you and your family join us on Sunday in one of our identical worship services at 9 & 11 AM. Age-appropriate worship for kids from infant-grade 5 also takes place during each service. Faith Beecher is a place where we celebrate life in Christ and worship God through song and sound biblical teaching. We also strive to make known that “church” not only happens when we’re gathered, but also as we scatter throughout the week to compassionately serve the town of Beecher and our surrounding communities. It doesn’t matter if you’ve gone to church as long as you can remember or are just checking it out for the very first time; there is a place for you to join us on this mission! Come as you are and we’ll learn together about the truth, love and grace of Jesus Christ. Pastor Nathan Prairie

DYER PASTOR’S NOTE When I started serving Faith over 25 years ago, we were a family of six. My wife Laurie, our four children and their spouses, and grandchildren now number 16. In comparison, Faith Church has grown from one church with 250 people to now having seven sites with thousands of wonderful people. God is a God of fruitfulness and reproduction. Laurie and I have found joy in every season of life. We are currently “empty nesters” which allows us to cherish our loving grandchildren in all their wonder. This season also provides unique opportunities for us to serve God’s world in its beauty and in its gospel impact. God is moving in mighty ways at Faith Church and I am excited to see where He will lead! Pastor Bob Bouwer

HIGHLAND PASTOR’S NOTE Greetings Paper reader! My name is Jason DeVries and I am one of the pastors at Faith Highland. My wife Kristin and I both grew up at Faith Church and it is where we met. We’ve now been married for almost 21 years. God has blessed us with three children. Anneke is 18, Justin, 16, and Kate, 13. Kristin teaches Pre-K at Crown Point Christian School. I had always planned on having a marketplace position and serving the church as a volunteer. It was the road I traveled for 10 years until 2004 when God showed me His plans were different. And, I couldn’t be happier! What a privilege to serve a church with people dedicated to reaching people for Jesus Christ! It’s a very exciting season with our expansion in Highland and I can’t wait to see what God does next! Pastor Jason DeVries

● ADULTS (Men & Women) SMALL GROUPS At Faith Highland, we believe God designed us to be in relationship with Him and with others. But it’s unlikely we’ll cultivate deep and meaningful relationships if all we do is attend a weekend service. We encourage you to become part of a small group where you can regularly be with people who get you, who understand your challenges and concerns, and who can help you explore your questions and your doubts—people who can share life with you and come alongside you when you need a little help on the way. We have many small group options: men’s groups, women’s groups, family groups, large groups and care groups. Small groups meet in a variety of places, days, and times. If you would like more information on small groups, feel called to lead a group, or are ready to join a group, please contact our campus coach Tim Huizenga at thuizenga@WeAreFaith.org | (219) 7137295 or stop by the Welcome Center. SCHERERVILLE PASTOR’S NOTE In August we starting pastoring at Faith Schererville and are excited to be a part of the Faith Church family. We have quickly fallen in love with the people at this location, and I have no doubt that any person who walks through our doors for the first time will feel it immediately as well. As we seek to reach the disconnected and grow the connected, we’ve found a diverse community of people who love to be in relationship. We believe we’re family, and strive to be a church that connects people to Jesus one relationship at a time. We’re always inviting people to be a part of our growing family! Philippians 1:9-11 says, “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.” So we invite you to join us as we seek to be a people who are known for our overflowing love, growing in knowledge and understanding, filled with the fruit of our salvation, serving in Jesus’ name. I’m looking forward to meeting you. Pastor Aaron Klein
