BE SOMEBODY

Starboard Reflections

What would I do without my Global Positioning System (GPS)?! Well, I’d get lost. We have become so dependent upon these applications on our phones and units in our cars. I remember navigating Paris in the late 1990’s with a map I filched from the train station. By the end of my few days there the folds in the paper had become so deep that the map was in shreds. We clearly depend upon these tools to help us to know how to get to where we are going. Long, long ago the stars were the guide. The North Star pointed the way. Welcome to the Navigator. This publication is designed to help our congregation and community to navigate the events and programs of our Faith community. We have come from a faithful history. We currently stand on the threshold with God at our side. We are moving boldly into the future with hope. We pray that this resource will help you to find your way on this journey of faith. Should you have suggestions or questions for how we can better accomplish this goal please be in touch with our Communications Coordinator, Marc Biss. Peace and Grace along the Way,

Pastor Cara

P.S. I invite you to thank Marc for his expertise, insight and courage in assessing how best we can be in communication with one another. This journey began more than 6 months ago and was vetted with the Communications Ministry Team, the staff, Ministry Council and many small gatherings.

Note from Joanne Fox:

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity I’ve had for 23 years to direct the Carol Choir. The video prepared by many of the Faith staff and my past and current choir members deeply moved, delighted, and humbled me. Faith church has been incredibly supportive of my efforts all these years. Commitment to attendance has made it possible for me to tackle some real musical challenges and is a powerful lesson parents have passed on to their children. Many church members have written letters thanking us for a particular musical offering. I have treasured your notes and always read them to my choir. I could not have done what I did without 4 wonderful women, my accompanists Sara Scheffler, Dorothy Leeson, Joan Ferris, and Susan Deibel. The musicals were a lot of work (!) but oh, so rewarding. I handled the music end, but have no skills with props and therefore am amazed at how God always provided a parent or parents who were able to produce whales, backdrop paintings, arcs and rainbows, soldier and shepherd costumes, etc. Thank you to all who contributed so much and delighted my choir members with those special props and costumes. Thank you to Bill Kaiser who supported me in so many small ways when I was a neophyte and in the ensuing years. As many of you know, I intended to retire a year earlier, but agreed to one more year and I am so glad I did because working with Dan Parsley has been a joyful experience. It has been a privilege to work with so many of your children over the years, and watch their growth in music and confidence. Church youth choirs are a marvelous place for children to receive individual attention and to gain confidence in front of a supportive and caring audience. Children who declined a singing or speaking solo the first year were often the first to jump at the chance by their third year in the choir. Please join me in praying for the hiring process for my replacement and for an accompanist, a very important and critical part of the choir. Thank you to all members of Faith church because every person who has done anything for the church has made it possible each year for a small group of children to flourish and grow. Blessings Joanne Fox

20/20 Vision Campaign Update #7 Throughout the month of May, Faith Church has conducted 25 Focus Group meeting to help us assess the Church’s readiness to engage in a campaign to deepen discipleship, improve our annual stewardship culture, and to raise funds to seed the 20/20 vision goals. The goal was to learn whether God is leading Faith Church to engage in a Campaign at this time. On Tuesday June 2nd at a called meeting of the Church Board our consultant from James D. Klote & Associates presented an extensive 82 page report outlining the findings from the 25 Focus Group meetings. As a result of that report and recommendations from our Consulting firm the Church Board voted unanimously to move forward! Thank you to everyone who attended one of the Focus Group Meetings and offered their ideas, questions, comments, and concerns as part of Faith Church’s discernment process. A copy of the “Readiness Assessment / Feasibility Study Final Report” is available through the Church’s website or a copy can be obtained through the Church Office. In addition, both the “Talking Points” and accompanying “Power Point” presentation used during the Focus Group meetings are also available through the website. Over the next few weeks Campaign Co-Chairs will be selected to lead this important effort and the Campaign Steering Committee will be formed. This will be comprised of 15 to 20 individuals. A list of people has begun, but please let Pastor Cara, Pastor Steve, or our Consultant, David Grove, know if you are interested!
