Partnership Falmouth Key to Falmouth’s growing success is a series of partnerships in place to ensure operations within the town are smoothly run and constantly evolving. All striving and working closely together to make Falmouth a better place for both its residents and visitors, the dynamic partnership scheme comprises a number of networks whose sole aim is to support the local economy, people and culture, helping them to continually flourish. The Falmouth Business Improvement District (BID) is a not-for-profit company responsible for delivering a number of innovative projects that aim to improve the trading environment of Falmouth. It is business-led - with over 400 businesses involved, who constantly deliver initiatives such as destination marketing, new events and festivals, PR campaigns, public realm improvements and business training programmes. Established in 1866, The Port of Falmouth Chamber of Commerce comprises a group of local business people from a range of sectors whose aim is to promote the port and town for the benefit of the members and the wider community. The Falmouth Town Forum is an ideas and consultation group whose purpose is to assist the Town Council and other agencies in developing Falmouth for the benefit of its residents, students and businesses. The apolitical Forum unites representatives of a variety of groups and organisations in the town from the commercial, charitable and statutory sectors. Recent work includes the long-term development of Falmouth, the Falmouth and Penryn Community Plan, greater waterside access, traffic management, tourism development, the Business Improvement District and youth issues. Created to support and inspire Falmouth residents, businesses, visitors, the local authorities and service providers, The Take Pride in Falmouth Committee encourages all to take pride in the town through maximising efforts to maintain an attractive, safe, clean, smart and litter-free town and waterfront through regular and continuous good housekeeping. Seagull-proof bins, regularised rubbish collections, information campaigns, research into the origins and clean-up techniques of water-borne litter, a code of conduct for businesses, a graffiti cleaning machine and working partnerships have all been instrumental to their campaign. Formed in 1974, Falmouth’s Quality Town Council currently comprises sixteen elected Councillors to help undertake a variety of local services from planning and highways to shopmobility, parks and gardens, Community Grant Awards and Christmas lighting. Involved in a mass of projects, their work is an integral part of the core alliance of Falmouth’s partnerships that continue to drive the town forward and afford it a well-esteemed and popular place on the map. Fal River Cornwall is a destination marketing partnership with over 100 members. It promotes the Fal River as Cornwall’s most popular visitor destination with Falmouth and its ferry hub at the heart of the area.

Spirit of the Sea Falmouth is synonymous with the sea. A centre of enterprise and communication, its historical roots are bound to its magnificent harbour and maritime culture. More than a mere fishing port, Falmouth boasts the third largest natural deepwater harbour in the world. It is flanked by Pendennis & St Mawes Castles, King Henry VIII’ s impenetrable forts built to protect the harbour from French and Spanish fleets. With a history of traders from Greece, Rome and Gaul visiting over 2,000 years ago, Falmouth has continued to capitalise on its trading town status throughout every historical age. Charles II’s royal charter in 1661 further opened the waterside gates, while in 1688 - with Sir Water Raleigh’s vision combined with the sponsorship of the Killigrew family - Falmouth’s port was born. It became the Royal Mail’s Packet Station where Custom House Quay dispatched dozens of packet ships, rapidly expanding its destinations to include the West Indies and North and South America

Diversifying its workforce and expertise across all sectors - from boat building to fishing - the inception of the Falmouth Docks and railway rapidly increased the town’s burgeoning prosperity and reputation. Relax and enjoy Falmouth’s world-class beaches and experience the pull of the ocean. With beachside dining, picnics on the sands, activities on and in the water, Falmouth has it all.

Walking in and around Falmouth allows you to follow some beautiful paths and breathtaking trails as well as unrivalled access to some incredible places.

Gyllyngvase Beach proudly boasts Blue Flag status, which means that clean, lifeguard-patrolled waters can be found alongside an array of facilities such as cafés and toilets, with watersports hire further adding to the allure of Falmouth’s popular main beach. (Map Ref: G10) Castle Beach makes an ideal spot for snorkelling and rock pooling, providing a quiet and sheltered stretch that also features a café. (Map Ref: I9) Tunnel Beach is sheltered by a high sea wall and provides a safe yet rocky stretch of sand that connects to Castle Beach on a low tide. (Map Ref: H9) Swanpool Beach includes a café, crazy golf and children’s play area, watersports centre and kayak hire - ideal for families and those seeking something more energetic. Maenporth Beach is flat and safe, providing seasonal lifeguards and a café. It is also home to award-winning restaurant, The Cove. To discover more of the area’s breathtaking beaches and unspoilt sands, hop on to the St Mawes Ferry over to the Roseland Peninsula and on to St Anthony Head.

If you’re short on time a walk around Pendennis Headland is perfect. The easy route takes in the scenic sights of Falmouth Docks and Pendennis Castle. This 2.5-mile walk starts at Custom House Quay before winding past the docks toward Pendennis Point, with stunning views along the way. Coastal walks are a great way to blow away the cobwebs and take in some refreshing sea air. Take your pick from the local coastal footpaths or for a real treat venture further afield and explore the many miles of river and coastal trails around the Roseland, St Mawes, Trelissick, Helford and Fal River, where you’ll find paths and places to suit every ability. One to try is the world famous South West Coast Path which runs across the entrance to the Fal River and is enjoyed by thousands of walkers every year. Home to a stunning array of parks and gardens, Falmouth’s prime south coast position perfectly supports a variety of sub-tropical plant species. Warmed by the Gulf Stream and enjoying a mild maritime climate, its award-winning gardens combine artistically landscaped sites with natural open spaces for an inspiring experience.

Trebah is renowned for its colourful display of tropical blooms that spill down towards their private beach on the Helford River: glorious gardens that are a definite must-see. Gyllyngdune Gardens were formerly part of the Gyllyngdune Manor and feature a period Victorian bandstand encircled by hanging baskets, flower towers, beautiful bedding plants and grotto walkway. Finalist for the 2013 Britain in Bloom competition, Falmouth continues to impress both visitors and industry professionals alike with its manicured private grounds, pristine public parks and gorgeous gardens. Kimberley Park showcases formal flowerbeds alongside fine ornamental trees, while its tree planting programme encourages local benefactors to donate trees to help protect the town’s horticultural heritage. There’s a new play area in the park for 2013. Queen Mary Gardens promise vibrant colours, representing a rare and fine example of ornamental gardens that also feature rockeries, herbaceous borders and spectacular summer flowerbeds. Rather than focusing on large marine mammals like other aquariums, the Falmouth Aquarium provides a more personal experience with coral reefs, small colourful and rare tropical fish and the chance to see tiny creatures that live under the sea that the public wouldn’t normally be able to observe. We are a unique facility, where we combine aquarium tanks with museum exhibits to enhance the visitors’ learning and experience. As a charity, our mission is to provide marine education and promote awareness about the issues facing our oceans. Our exhibits are aimed at all levels and ages, from 2 years old to 18 and beyond. Treasure Trails Three great fun ways to explore the Fal River, the trails take from two hours to a full day. Solve the clues, follow the Trail and find the pirate treasure. Don’t forget to grab your treasure after you solve all the clues. Roseland Ranger This is the shortest Trail and is split into two parts; one explores St Mawes and the other St Anthony Head, both on the beautiful Roseland Peninsula. Both parts can be completed individually or together. Catch a ferry to St Mawes to start the Trail from Falmouth, Trelissick or Truro. In St Mawes you can complete part one before taking the Place Ferry to St Anthony Head to complete part two. Both trails involve a walk, 1 mile for part one and 4.5 miles for part two. A great value trail for detectives of all ages. Fal River Challenge This is the big one and takes you all around the river using ferries, buses and trains and makes great use of your Fal Mussel Card. Start from anywhere on the river and then complete the big loop that takes in Falmouth, Trelissick, Truro & St Mawes. Pendennis Castle - English Heritage

Ocean Bowl

Ocean Bowl, the county’s largest Tenpin bowling centre, is proving a great hit with people of all ages since we opened in Falmouth in September 2002. Ocean Bowl is open from 11am until 11pm, seven days a week and boasts 12 lanes as well as five pool tables, a large screen showing sports events, a selection of video games, a 50-seater fast food diner, a 100-seater Restaurant, a licensed bar and a large car park. Our restaurant and Diner offers a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes including the all new World Burger Menu with a large selection of cooked to order specialist burgers from around the world. We have a superb selection of home made dishes which include Lasagne, chili con carne, Chicken Tikka Masala and more. Children’s parties are also catered for with prices starting from £9 per child which includes a 2 course meal, balloons, certificates and bowling for groups of any size. Grand Medieval Jousts 11am to 5pm A magnificent medieval joust where fighting knights do battle in a live action show. Revel in the drama of clashing knights on horseback and cheer on your favourite. Be entertained by the court jester for plenty of laughs too. Let the battle commence!

Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week The annual Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week will bring a full and varied programme of entertainment. This includes the carnival, yacht racing, fireworks, air displays, daytime and evening entertainment bands/ acts, children’s activities and much more.

Gylly Triathlon 7am to 10am. Triathlon Event – Swim / Cycle Run – 2 races Adult Relay Tri (max 20 teams, 4 members per team 7 to 8.15am. Junior Tri (ages 13 – 16), max 80 participants, mass start. Taking in Cliff Road, Pendennis Rise and Castle Drive. All competitors to be pre-entered.

Pink Wig Party/ Day If the whole town looks pink on Friday night don’t worry, you won’t be seeing things! It will be the ‘Pink Wig Girls’ Night Out’ supporting the Breast Cancer Campaign AND Cornwall Breast Care Team. Entertainment and live music at Events Square.

Falmouth Walking Carnival Led by the Falmouth Marine Band this popular carnival gathers at the Falmouth Rugby Club to walk through the main streets of the town finishing at the Watersports Centre. Music, entertainment and fun for all the family!
