The Fal Mussel Card allows you unlimited travel for a fixed period on ferries, buses and trains within the Fal River Links network. You get discounted travel on many of the services that connect the river and it is the best way to explore the Fal River and its many gardens, walks, riverside pubs and attractions.

SAVE MONEY A Fal Mussel Card can save you up to 50% on a standard fare and the more you use it, the more you save. You simply buy a card for 1, 2, 3 or 6 days and then you’re free to enjoy the Fal River at your own pace. “We used the Fal Mussel Card whilst on an October half-term holiday in St Mawes. It was our first visit to the area and we will certainly return, partly due to the availability of the Mussel Card. We only used the car once during our 9 day stay, and even then used the Fal Mussel Card for the King Harry Ferry for an evening trip to Truro to see the latest film at the cinema.”

The perfect day out Start the day in Falmouth with a visit to Pendennis Castle, explore the Tudor gun deck and see if you can spot any dolphins in Falmouth Bay. Walk back into town with maybe a pitstop at the Maritime Museum for a cup of tea. Then head to Custom House Quay to pick up the ferry to St Mawes for lunch then a look round St Mawes Castle. FREE all day parking with a Fal Mussel Card As well as the Float and Ride tickets, you can use your Fal Mussel Card to get free all day parking. Falmouth Park & Float/Ride is the perfect starting point for your Fal Mussel Card adventure, see p8. Falmouth has limited long stay parking and for this reason the Park & Float / Ride was established in 2003. Visitors to the town can now help reduce congestion and pollution by using the 500 space car park on the outskirts of town at Ponsharden.

Park and Float What better way to arrive in Falmouth than aboard a classic wooden ferry? After parking at Ponsharden take a leisurely trip down the Penryn River to Falmouth’s Custom House Quay. Ferries depart from the car park every 20 minutes. We love our ferries and we hope you do too!

Park and Ride Buses depart from the car park every 20 minutes and go direct to Falmouth’s High Street and Prince of Wales Pier. From the pier the Maritime Museum is a 10-15 minute walk through the centre of town.

The ferry provides an all year round service to over 162,000 visitors a year and is an absolute must for anyone visiting Cornwall. Passing the impressive castles of St Mawes and Pendennis, the ferry route takes you on a magical journey across the Carrick Roads. As well as the castles you will see many large ships, the working docks of Falmouth, Black Rock (a local isolated shipping hazard) and, if you’re lucky, some of the dolphins and basking sharks that regularly visit the harbour. The classic wooden ferries depart every hour during the winter and three times an hour during the summer. Capacity is never a problem as each ferry can carry up to 100 passengers and covered seating is provided in case we get some ‘Cornish Liquid Sunshine’. Safety is paramount and all our vessels and skippers are licensed by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Operating seven days a week the Place Ferry runs a regular service between St Mawes and Place Creek on the Roseland Peninsula. The ferry not only makes up part of the ‘South West Coast Path’ but from Place Creek passengers can head out on a selection of achievable short walks and discover the Roseland Peninsula. See p62. With its white sandy beaches, lighthouse, defensive Falmouth fortifications,PWP church and spectacular walks, this inspiring peninsula is one of the most delightful Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the South Falmouth West; it’s also ideal for dogCHQ walkers! The Place Ferry operates a half-hourly service between St Mawes and Place Creek from March to November, seven days a week. The ferry lands at ‘Toddy Steps’ 100 yards along the footpath to the north of the slipway. At low tide the causeway can be very slippery so please take care. Safety as always is paramount and the ferry and its staff are licensed by the Harbour Master.
