Let’s talk EXAMS... s the dreaded exam season creeps on upon us for undoubtedly another year of stress, it is vital to manage your children’s stress levels during this crucial time. Whether it’s A-Level GCSE or SATS, over half of pupils admit to feeling pressured that if they do not perform well during their exams, it will have a detrimental effect on their future.
A
As parents, we want nothing but the best for our children. At times, this perhaps means that we may even push them a little too much to study that extra bit harder in order to achieve the top grades in their exam results. However, it is important to be conscious of the amount of pressure we put on our children at such a young age to perform well in their exams. The best way to manage this is the balance between relaxation and confidence. Sitting any exams for the first time is undoubtedly nerve-wracking. Like anything, we always perform best when we have had a good night’s rest. It is crucial for children to try and maintain a good sleeping pattern during the exam period. Furthermore, it is important that we encourage our children to revise and study in the best way that they can so that they feel confident going into sit their exams. So long as they practice at home through papers, homework and revision, their confidence will naturally build up. Encouraging a good work ethic can help children feel more at ease in doing work and revision, rather than seeing it as a chore or a challenge. Like they say, practice makes perfect, and doing so will enable children to feel proud of themselves and feel like they are achieving something.
However, a good work ethic may mean different things to different children. It is best to avoid pressure. Easing children into a routine at an earlier age is extremely beneficial when it comes to sitting GCSE and A-Level exams and for some, to perhaps consider additional tuition from a reputable external agency. Liverpool offers some fantastic tutors in all subject areas, including Kumon, Genie Tutors, Inspire Tutoring to name a few! Stay calm, work hard, and encourage your children to think of exams as a positive thing- as preparation for the exciting things that life has to offer.

TEACHING
KIDS the valu £ of money...
Struggling with money is something that each and every one of us battles with at some point in our lives. The majority of young people still do not receive any form of financial education in school. Alison Pask, Managing Director, at London Institute of Banking and Finance told us, “Two years on from its introduction into the national curriculum, our research from The Young Persons’ Money Index still points to a state of inertia in the delivery of financial education. We are seeing too many young people finishing their GCSEs or other pre-16
qualifications, without ever having had a formal lesson on their financial wellbeing”. Research carried out by LIBF found teenagers have hugely inflated expectations with regards to their future salaries. Boys believe they will earn a salary in excess of £54,000 by the time they are 30, while girls believe they will earn £42,850. The national average is £30,400 and £27,500 respectively. Ready to prepare your children for the harsh realities of what the future has to offer? Let’s start to educate our children about the value of money together.

Parent Review
Liverpool Trampoline Academy As a parent to three children of 3, 10 and 15, it is difficult to find a common sport and activity that they can all enjoy and get involved in. Once my eldest daughter started to train at Liverpool Trampoline Academy, I was delighted to find that they cater to all ages and abilities. Offering a huge variety of sessions and activities, the club provides a safe and friendly environment with professional coaches to help everyone reach the best of their ability. My daughter trains 5 days a week in the club elite squad and is taught by top trampoline coaches who are all very friendly and approachable and take pride in their club. Not only is she trained at the highest standard, she also thoroughly enjoys the fun, friendly and sociable atmosphere that the club oozes. My daughter’s skill set have come on leaps and bounds since training at the academy, as well as her confidence growing immensely. But it is not just the people that make the whole experience so professional and enjoyable. However, the best thing about the club is the diversity of fantastic equipment and impressive facilities to cater for all ages and abilities. The club offers every type bouncing equipment imaginable,
including 12 Full Size Trampolines, with every different tramp-bed type on the market which includes 6 Olympic Standard trampolines, 2 Trampo-Wall Beds, 4 Beginner level trampolines and 2 PT Bouncers! Not only does the club have the largest Tramp-O-Wall in Europe, but also includes a Foam pit with 2 trampolines to jump from and an extremely bouncy Coil Sprung Floor!! I recently took my 3-year-old son to the new parent and toddler session which we both absolutely loved. Full of energy and entertainment, the toddler classes are a great way to introduce and allow young children to explore an active lifestyle. Funbounce really

Review
SPACE COFFEE BY KAREN SHAW As a coffee lover and sweet treat extraordinaire, it is always fantastic to stumble upon the latest and trendiest coffee houses the city has to offer. But as a power pram walker, it is even better to find a spot that is both child friendly, relaxing, and most importantly, tasty! Nestled into the heart of Aigburth Road, Space’s monochrome set up oozes laid back chic and style. I was initially drawn in by the copious offerings of a quick grab and go sandwiches, pastries and toasts. However, after viewing the wide variety of food and drink on the menu, I was tempted to try something a bit more satisfying. I was instantly greeted by a friendly waitress who brought over a highchair to the table. The menu offered everything from every type of eggs possible, bagels, salads, wraps, sandwiches and paninis. After much contemplation, I settled for the smashed avocado and poached eggs on toast after seeing some very happy customers with the same. And what a great choice it was! Fantastic as an extremely filling brunch meal, it was simply divine! My mini food critic was extremely content in her highchair with her kids cheese sandwich, fruit pot and a small bottle of fresh milk as well! As I was made to feel so relaxed, and my daughter was happy with her meal, I decided it was time to treat myself to a sweet treat. Utterly spoilt for choice is an understatement when it comes to describing the fantastically beautiful ranges of cakes. I was drawn in by the sumptuous unicorn cupcakes, sprinkled with fairy dust and frosted to perfection. Almost too pretty to eat, these cupcakes tasted even dreamier than they looked!
“I would highly recommend Space Coffee for that mid-week morning coffee catch up, grab and go, tasty family lunch or for a relaxing drink with friends!”

Restaurant Review
Stanleys Bar & Grill AT THE TITANIC HOTEL, LIVERPOOL. BY CLARE MULLAN Oh, what a night! I recently had the pleasure of dining at the stunning Stanleys Bar & Grill, at the Titanic Hotel, Liverpool. I can honestly say it was one of the most relaxing and satisfying dining experiences I have had. The Restaurant itself retains many of the original warehouse features including exposed brickwork and vaulted ceilings, this teamed with plush sofas and stylish finishes makes for a rather charming open space. We were immediately greeted by the host who kindly offered to take our coats and escorted us to our table beside the marvellous floor to ceiling windows which hosts picturesque views of Stanley Dock. The ambiance was cool and relaxed, with fellow diners all seemingly enjoying their food and their evening. The first menu we cast our eyes over was the impressive wine menu, where we had a choice of not only a hotel selection but a director and presidential selection too. Perfect for those special occasions! As we wanted to ponder over the menu a little longer, (we were having trouble deciding as it all sounded tantalising!) we asked for the bread from the ‘Just a Nibble’ selection. The bread itself was incredibly light and came with both roasted red pepper hummus and garlic butter. As our knowledgeable and friendly waitress took our plates away I couldn’t help but become very
excited at the prospect of our next course, I mean everything had been seriously outstanding thus far. And true to form, arrived my immaculately char grilled rib eye steak, complete with on the vine tomatoes as well as my accompanying side dishes. Have I mentioned the peppercorn sauce? Not that the steak needed it but oh my, sensational! My partner opted for the roast cod, which was accompanied with iberico chorizo, chickpeas and harissa squid. The Rioja truly pairing famously with the luscious flavours during this course. The cod too was mouth-watering, I couldn’t resist just another forkful (Isn’t it a necessity to try one’s partners food as well as your own?!) Noticeably, after our main courses we did not feel overly or uncomfortably full. The food was more than pleasing and portion sizes perfect but everything was light
enough that we were able to sneak a little slice of heaven in the form of Pavlova in for dessert! A dreamy evening, indulging in not only the top class food, the charming company or the live music in the rum bar afterwards, this will be a haven we continue to revisit. Stanley’s Bar & Grill delivers an overall stunning experience and an easy recommendation for me to make.

The perfect “luxury” all-inclusive family holiday? BY JESSICA MATTHEWS FROM MYRIAD TRAVEL s there such a thing as a perfect luxury all-inclusive family holiday? After my recent visit to Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa in the stunning Caribbean, the answer is a resounding YES! Travelling with a group of travel agents, it is fair to say we are hard to please when it comes to holidays. But, after our fantastic experience, it had to be shared.
I
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Located on Grace Bay, a 12-mile beach with sweeping white-sand and lapped by the calmest and clearest turquoise waters, the setting is picture perfect. This resort consists of 4 villages, all of which are themed, including Caribbean Seaside, French, Italian, and my favourite – Key West. Getting to the island of Turks & Caicos is easy. British Airways offer a direct flight from London Gatwick (via Antigua). From the airport, Beaches Turks & Caicos is only a 15-minute transfer away.

Mums seek out the Red Lane ® Spa for a little pampering in blissful Caribbean surroundings, whilst the kids (big and little) visit the waterpark!

more. Plus, this resort is home to a waterpark, where kids of all ages will have a blast. Gigantic waterslides, kid-friendly pools and swim-up bars await! There are also water cannons, whirlpools and lazy river journeys, as well as the Caribbean’s only surf simulator. Let’s start with the food. As selfcertified “foodie”, I was pleased to find no less than 21 restaurants! From Sushi to Italian, Teppanyaki to seafood and even your typical British pub! You can simply go on a culinary expedition around the world and the quality was superb! At Beaches Resorts there is no limit on how many times you can dine a la carte and no reservations are needed! Coupled with premium brand drinks, Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks wines and a cocktail menu to die for, the dining experience is second to none. I loved Kimonos where the chefs cooking entertained up with their antics.
FINE DINING AND RELAXATION The most impressive thing about a Luxury Included® holiday at Beaches Turks & Caicos is the inclusions, from 5-Star Global Gourmet™ dining and unlimited premium brand drinks to unlimited land and water sports and so much

And as we indulged in as much food our bodies could handle, there was no better way to let our food digest then sleeping it off in our luxurious rooms. Whether it’s a room for two or a more expansive enclave for your extended clan, there’s a room or suite that’s just the right fit. From cosy cottages to luxurious rooms and sprawling family suites with separate rooms for the kids, Beaches suites offer something for everyone. For the ultimate in personalised indulgence,
select suites include the services of a personal butler who will attend to your every whim!
THAT EXTRA DOSE OF LUXURY? Mums will love the Red Lane® Spa for a little pampering in blissful surroundings and if hubby craves a workout there is a state-of-the-art gym with Life Fitness equipment. I love the fact there is no saving of sunbeds at the resort! How refreshing, the days of waking up at 7am to reserve the perfect speck are long gone. No need to hunt for space around the pool, space is plentiful, even loungers with shade at the beach can be found. At the end of my stay I came to the conclusion that there is such a thing as the perfect family holiday. The best way to find out it to pack up your kids, your sense of adventure and head to the beach to make some special family memories. I stayed at Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa but Beaches Resorts also has 2 properties in Jamaica and there are some great offers around so pop in for a coffee to see us or contact us by email/telephone and we would be delighted to put together the ideal family holiday. Spring Cleaning & De-Cluttering
t last, we are saying goodbye to those winter blues and welcoming Spring with open arms! Our moods are lifted, we are no longer going to and leaving work in the dark and suddenly the natural light unmasks all that was hidden in our homes over winter. And so, we begin to think about our annual Spring Clean. For many of us, this involves getting thoroughly stuck in armed with elbow grease, Henry the Hoover and a bottle of Febreze (Prosecco). But for others hiring the professionals to come in and declutter our lives for us is much more appealing. Hiring a cleaner for our homes is becoming more and more common as their prices are competitive and really, it is nice to take the stress off ourselves!
A
familygolive.com
Another new phenomenon which seems to be sweeping the nation is ‘The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up’ which is a Japanese art of decluttering and organising. The ‘KonMarie Method’, encourages a rapid and dramatic transformative one time organising event completed methodically in no more than six months. Apparently this art of decluttering can be life changing, providing clarity as people are now only surrounded by things that provide simplicity. A bit extreme but in keeping with the idea of, ‘out of sight, out of mind’, I guess this method does provide
a sense of well-being in itself. We all know how good it feels to come in to a clean, tidy home as opposed to sitting on top of piles of washing and having a stare-off with dish mountain. Liverpool’s own Eco Cleaning Fairies are passionate about the importance of clean spaces, not just for our physical health but also for our general well-being. Using environmentally assured and natural products, teamed with some good old fashioned elbow grease they help to give you the space to relax, create, socialise and live!

SPRING SUMMER Fashion Trends 2017 n the wave of all the chaos that came with 2016, it seems as though this year’s fashion is also following the disarray with unrelenting waves of ruffles and uneven hemlines. Combined with random pops of colour, the return of the eighties and kitten heel heaven, here’s a little about what we can expect from fashion over the next few months.
O
Go for a versatile day to night look, team your ballerina skirt with a rock tee & glam it up with a pretty handbag & some boots
Think Pink! With a very definite fuchsia palette painting the way for SS17, it seems as though this girly colour is making a come-back. Timing perfectly with Mother’s Day & Ladies Day which are both happening in March and April respectively, you can be sure that adopting a strong feminine style over the next couple of months will be bang on trend. Tulle will still be a firm favourite with Dior and Valentino featuring the material in their SS17 catwalks. In keeping with the chaotic theme that seems to be emerging, the designers have teamed this ballerina look with a darker surface layer and even the like of Versace pairing this with sports-wear. Taking us back to one of the most influential fictional fashionistas, Carrie Bradshaw in the SATC2 film, arguable one of her most memorable outfits, the J’adore Dior t-shirt paired with her ball-gown like skirt making for a unique and fun outfit.

PICK ‘N’ MIX PARTIES We’ve done the bouncy castles and the discos, the football matches and the parties at the zoo. It was time for us to try something new, a party to top off the rest while allowing me to sit back and not having the hassle of party planning. I am not sure how I survived the years of party planning before PICK ‘N’ MIX PARTIES entered onto our scene. On a mission create the day of my daughters dreams, PICK ‘N’ MIX PARTIES filled the whole experience with nothing but fun, laughter, music, games, and most importantly a little bit of magic! Tailored to your every need, I was utterly spoilt for choice to find the kids party provider has a huge range of themed parties and characters to choose from, there really is something for everyone. From Princess’s to pirates, there are plenty of themes to choose from all coming fully equipped in perfect costume. If we weren’t spoilt for choice already, I had the option of adding fantastic extras such as props, party supplies, venue set up and special appearances! There really was nothing PICK ‘N’ MIX PARTIES did not think of and were not able to do. I was overwhelmed and extremely pleased by the amount of thought, detail and preparation that went into making my princess’s birthday the best one she has had yet. The day was fully customisable to make the party tailored to my daughter, with options to include a 5 tier chocolate fountain with LED base, DJ’s
and entertainers, face painting, glitter tattoos, balloons and party bags. The stressful days of organising my daughter’s parties are well and truly over all thanks to PICK ‘N’ MIX! The team provided a once in a life time, magical experience for children, with fully trained singing, dancing and acting entertainers for an authentic experience, complete with the highest quality costumes, wigs and makeup.
