I
nfluenza can manifest as uncomplicated symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, coryza (inflammation of the mucous membrane in the nose), headache and malaise. Alternatively, it can manifest as a complicated influenza - requiring hospital admission if signs and symptoms of lower respiratory tract are exacerbated and persistent. It is recommended that a flu vaccine is administered, especially as co-circulation of SARS-CoV-2 is very likely. The following risk groups have been identified: • Pregnant women • HIV infected individuals • Persons who are very overweight (BMI≥40) • Persons over 65yrs of age • Young children (from as little as 6 months) • Persons of any age who have chronic conditions e.g. pulmonary, cardiac, renal, hepatic, neurological issues.
